Louise Posted 31 October 2006 Posted 31 October 2006 MANDARIC REJECTS POMPEY CRITICISM Former Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric has rejected suggestions that his plans to take over Leicester are a betrayal of his Pompey roots. Mandaric is preparing a £25million takeover of the Coca-Cola Championship club and that his led to criticism from Portsmouth fans that it is too soon after he left Fratton Park. But the Serb-American businessman - in charge of Pompey for seven and a half years before being bought out by Alexandre Gaydamak - believes he should be free to invest his money where he chooses. Mandaric told the Portsmouth News: "I always promised I would never leave Pompey in trouble, like when they were in danger of relegation from the old First Division. "Instead I left Pompey in tremendous shape, near the top of the Premiership. "I've helped put the club on the map. I get happier about that with every additional three points Pompey get. "I didn't need to sell the club, but thought it was in the best interest of the club to do so. "If I go to Leicester, supporters should be happy for me that I'm alive and still in football, rather than disappearing off to America or Slovenia and not being heard of again. I'm not ready to retire. "If I go to Leicester, it's not to a club that is an unfriendly one to us. But whether I go to Leicester or Barcelona, Pompey will always be special in my heart. I might fall in love again, but nothing will replace Pompey. "It was an unbelievable relationship. We went through some hard times together and had tears on our faces. But it brought us closer together. We've got fantastic memories. "I might develop another good relationship, but nothing will ever replace the one I developed with Pompey fans. We will always be friends. "I've had a lots of letters from Pompey fans wishing me all the best and saying what I did for the club was immeasurable. That's fantastic." http://www.sportinglife.com/football/cc_ch...MHD=nationwide1
Ric Flair Posted 31 October 2006 Posted 31 October 2006 I find it very hard to believe that these other 'investors' will have the financial force or reputation in football like Mandaric has and that's the main factor here. It's often the case that when it's reported a club is going to be bought out that other interested parties come out of the woodwork but it's usually the initial interested party (Mandaric in our case) that follow through (not literally I hope, skidder!!) and buy the club. Look at all those supposed interested consortium's in Villa not so long ago, even the lifelong Villa fan who had plenty of money still didn't fully challenge Randy Lerner in his bid to buy Villa. It will be Mandaric who buys this club unless our board go out of their way to deliberatly sabotage the deal. Perhaps they want to stay in charge but get lots more shareholders with small stakes pumping money in to the club? That would be dreadful. If Mandaric does buy the ground back, he'll just take a loan out to offset that and pay it off when we're either in the premeirship or when he sells up. Nowt wrong with that, i'm sure there will be a good transfer budget for Kelly or Claudio Ranieri to work with here.
Lester LXXIV Posted 31 October 2006 Posted 31 October 2006 Awesome. Gets better by the hour! That story was taken from the Portsmouth Daily news down here. They have left a little out but the whole story can be read HERE
Lester LXXIV Posted 31 October 2006 Posted 31 October 2006 He calls Leicester a "special opportunity" and has the backing of Gary Lineker...
Ric Flair Posted 31 October 2006 Posted 31 October 2006 Is anybody else absolutely astounded that this is happening. Astounded as in good astounded, not astounded in a bad way. I just can't believe we potentially have another chance at the big time. We are lucky ****ers, we really are. I mean, how many clubs of our size have done what we've done over the past 10-15 years. We've been very lucky and just when it looks like we're buried in shit up to our eyeballs we have some salt of the earth come and rescue us with plenty of money. GOD is a Leicester fan.
Finnegan Posted 31 October 2006 Posted 31 October 2006 GOD is a Leicester fan. Blatantly. He gave us Elvis Hammond.
Master Fox Posted 31 October 2006 Posted 31 October 2006 It's like he has left his old hag of wife (in pompey fc) for a sexy young blonde who he will fall madly in love with (LCFC). This is forking great!!!
Ric Flair Posted 31 October 2006 Posted 31 October 2006 Blatantly. He gave us Elvis Hammond. And Danny Tiatto The Disciple.
Master Fox Posted 31 October 2006 Posted 31 October 2006 He calls Leicester a "special opportunity" and has the backing of Gary Lineker... Well if Gary is one of the main shareholders that sounds like a pretty done deal to me
lcfc_jme Posted 31 October 2006 Posted 31 October 2006 I want to know if Heskey (being a shareholder) will a) approve of a takeover and b) come back to us if (specially for DB) Uncle Milan takes over
The People's Hero Posted 31 October 2006 Posted 31 October 2006 Doubt it. Jewell is playing to Heskey's strength and clearly values him. If I was Emile, I'd stay right where I was.

As the gospel choir sing, 'Jesus For Leicester!' I am astounded too, even with all my posting on the MM thread, I really didn't think it'd come to pass (hoped it would maybe, but didn't expect it to). Now with other potential investors as well it suddenly seems like all the stuff I kept telling myself about how we're a small, insignificant club that most people either hate or don't care about (to explain the fact that we were going no-where), seems like it's not true. We could be going somewhere... That said, whoever it is could take us over and ruin us/move us out of Leicester/leave us with huge debts/get us relegated/put us back into admin.... So lets not get too excited yet.
lcfc_jme Posted 31 October 2006 Posted 31 October 2006 Doubt it. Jewell is playing to Heskey's strength and clearly values him. If I was Emile, I'd stay right where I was. Fair point. But if the wheels start to come off the Wigan wagon and Heskey needs a move somewhere, this quality football would be great for him, and the little and large combination upfront would be ideal
Babylon Posted 31 October 2006 Posted 31 October 2006 He calls Leicester a "special opportunity" and has the backing of Gary Lineker... Where does that come from mate?

Ricey Posted 31 October 2006 Posted 31 October 2006 Where does that come from mate? In the Daily Express Jon Holmes states that Lineker is backing Mandaric.

So lets not get too excited yet. Some of those risks are always present, not just in the hands of a potential new owner. Fair point. But if the wheels start to come off the Wigan wagon and Heskey needs a move somewhere, this quality football would be great for him, and the little and large combination upfront would be ideal The wheels wont come off the Wigan wagon (ha ha, what a name) - they're a brilliant side and I think they will win the Premiership (when Whelan buys the City players that lead us to the Premiership title in 3 years time).
lookwhaticando Posted 31 October 2006 Posted 31 October 2006 That's a relief. And I hope he turns up in good voice for tonight's match. Sorry, I can't make it tonight... bit short notice, I've a baptism gig in Vegas, you see...

lookwhaticando Posted 31 October 2006 Posted 31 October 2006 In the Daily Express Jon Holmes states that Lineker is backing Mandaric. He must be loving that... bet he's thinking "those fans wont say no... if it's good enough for Gary Lineker..."
Louise Posted 31 October 2006 Posted 31 October 2006 Maybe Gary just wants his 100k back now that his ex-Mrs wants all his money... allegedly.
Dr The Singh Posted 31 October 2006 Posted 31 October 2006 Where's Ultra these days, I was hoping to hear some of his negative aspects, i find them very entertaining to say the least!!!
gatesheadfox Posted 31 October 2006 Posted 31 October 2006 Maybe Gary just wants his 100k back now that his ex-Mrs wants all his money... allegedly. well she will have worked her arse off to contribute to his bank balance, allegedly. bloody hell i'd put up with being married to gary, god that he is..
