I don't really see how he makes the team. Bowling success last year was based on keeping it tight across all bowlers, that goes out the window if you have someone going at 7s, as the pressure is released. Alphonso clearly believes in him though. Agree with others that 3 years is generous, but that's probably the minimum he would accept given he was still in contract at Yorks.

Not totally against it.

Ben Mike is a sum of parts with potential to be a good all rounder.

He fits the mold of multi format players with upside and his injury record is pretty good too.

Biggest issue is his bowling averages in all formats which needs alot of work but if Thomas/Taylor can improve then he'd be a useful addition.

Like others have said not sure he gets in over Scriven & Mulder at present.

Given now he's back is he our quickest bowler?

A go at the 4 day starting XI with alternatives/backups the other side of the /:

Patel

Budinger/Evans

Hill/Kimber

Handscomb/Swindells

Mulder

Ahmed/Trevaskis

Cox

Mike/Walker

Scriven/Wood

Wright

Salisbury/Hull

I think Mike probably does make the first XI unless Kimber or someone comes in to the batting and Cox drops to 8? Probably don't need 6 bowlers really but then Scriven is a steady bat all the way down at 9 too with those 6 in.

There's far more headroom with Ben Mike if he knuckles down and responds to the coaches.

Problem is he turns 26 next year not really showing any signs that he's  anywhere near good enough on a consistent basis

Swindells turns 25 next year and you've backed him a lot despite no real consistency

True but an average of around 27  for a wicket keeper batsmen is not that bad while Mike hasn't really shown that he's  capable  of bowling at a consistent level .He still goes round the Park more often then not

Mike was a better batsman than Swindells in 2022, but yeah his bowling definitely needs work

I feel as though Mike would offer far more with the bat than he would with the ball. I do wonder if they might have a rogue plan with him, particularly for t20 and push him high up the order.

If he signs Henderson said at the members forum  they only had money in the kitty for one more signing which I would think was Mike

Maybe Currie would be back on loan?

I still think we need another spin option and an opening batsman. Josh Cobb could tick both these boxes. Not a regular in Northants side and still think he's got a couple of years left in him.

Can’t afford to carry players just for one format of the game, however much I like Josh Cobb his 4 day cricket is not good enough.

I notice the Blast finals day has been farmed out to September too.

It usually is, I think? Quarters only being a week before is an absolute disgrace though.

Anyone heard anything on how the bidding war for an outground game is going?

Disappointed  that they will be using  an outground for a 4 day game again so just 6 championship matches at GR
