My best memory was when we stuffed Cambridge 5-0 in a play off semi final after drawing at their ground in the first leg. A young Dion Dublin was quite a menace back then and they really did know all about long ball. John Beck picked a good side full of thugs...

Anyway... standing in the kop jumping around hugging grown men i had never met ( as per usual for a city win) each time a goal went in watching us absolutly destroy one of the most awkward teams i had ever seen was ace. We even gave Cambridge a clap as they went round the pitch - we were feeling THAT sporting at having won!!! That game had everything... cambridge tried to gang rape us in the first few minutes but we some how got through it. It also had the best save i had ever personally seen by a GK.. totally bizarre save by their kepper yet fantastic....

Best city Memory STANDING in the Spion Kop!!!

those were the days and if anyone ever is able to find a video of the highlights ( featured on central sports special) then i would be most grateful!!!!

I was at that game too with one of my brothers in pen 2 but my brother wore a gold T shirt ffs!

I once wore a green and white striped top when Plymouth came to filbert street..

Always used to baffle me when City fans would wear red when we played a team that had red tops . I think my whole wardrobe consisted of various shades of blue and black, nothing else.

Brill Game, atmosphere - Tommy wright wright wright on fire.  Remember being impressed by philpott. Beck had the boys psyched up modelled on 'crazy gang' style. Pre match talk of marine style training, cold showers from memory. I was in double decker, it was mental.

When I saw that Dion Dublin had a chessboard shaved into the back of his head, I thought that meant he was well hard.

I loved the double decker stand at Filbert Street, although I was generally a Koppite. Great memories.

I remember one game they gave like 2,000 free tickets out to a bunch of school kids and put them in the double decker stand above the away fans.

just before the game was due to start a message came across the tannoy system

”Hello everyone can those in the double decker upper tier please stop throwing boiled sweets at the away fans”

it got the biggest cheer of the day.

That was the corner between the East Stand and the Filbert Street end. It would be all home fans.

It became the Supporters Club corner eventually. It was the away corner in the 70's until the infamous Villa match in '78.

Was it perhaps 77 rather than 78?

A Villa home match with a pitch invasion and quite a bit of fighting in 77 or 78 was my first game, aged 7.  I remember the sense of danger.

The history tab suggests the home fixture against Villa that season was in October 1977, and we were relegated in 78.

If anyone has good recollection of the day, I'd be happy to stand corrected or hear more about it.

It could well have been '77.

The away corner was rammed with Villa fans and at half time the police made a decision to move some out and escort them alongside the pitch in front of the Pop Side down into Pen 1 of the Kop (where I was with my Dad). Massive mistake and would lead to a public enquiry if it happened in modern times. In those days, Pen 1 wasn't the volatile section (this was pre-crazy corner) and most City fans climbed over the wall at the front into Pen 2 (me included) to escape the Villa mob. The nutters from pens 3 & 4 piled in with those already in pen 2 and a full on riot kicked off. Coins, bottles, full cans stolen from the kiosks, milk crates, planks and all sorts of stuff being chucked around. I think the security gate at the top was forced open with City fans piling in and far too dangerous for the police to get involved! Eventually fans started fighting on the pitch and the match was stopped.

The Infirmary was full of casualties where, apparently, the trouble continued. Quite a few stabbings. I ended up in the Kop goalmouth, my dad lost his glasses and vowed never to step foot in Filbert St again (he did eventually, about 10 years later).

Worst football violence I've ever seen.

Good recollection Spud. I was at that match too as a 14 year old in pen 2. I didn't realise that the Villa fans had been taken into pen 1 by the police though. I thought they had been allocated pen 1. You are spot on about them hurling missiles into pen 2 from on top of the kiosk at the back of pen 1. Can remember the metal crates and I think there were spare wooden goalposts thrown as well as sheets of glass smashed out of the windows at the back. Horrendous.

Thanks for this. Nice one.

I was in the East Stand, with my Dad.  I remember loads of fans moving from that corner to Pen 1, along our side of the pitch, and the skirmishes.

My Dad was telling me it was safe where we were and I don't recall feeling in any danger.

I don't remember too much about the game, but I remember the crowd trouble lol

For some reason the picture which sticks in my mind is a couple of Villa fans with scarves tied round their wrists, as was the fashion back then, clapping at us.  No idea why.  It might not be a reliable memory, given my age at the time, but I can recall that sight as clear as day.

The photo doesn't look like the seventies but I'll bow to your superior knowledge!

How I wish I could go back. Just for one more game.

It wasn't taken in the 70's and they are home supporters. I think it was from that pictorial book of the last season at Filbert St.

Away fans were allocated pen 1 of the Kop (with pen 2 being left empty as a buffer zone between fans) from the late 70's until the stadium went all seater. Then the Kop was home fans only and half of the East Stand became the away section (and a portion of the Double-Decker for cup games if away fan demand required it).

My first game was home v Norwich, March 1978. I can recall all the Norwich fans packed into that corner.

It makes sense that away fans were moved to pen 1 the following season.

That photo was taken from the Fulham match in September of the season, a thrilling 0-0 draw.
