Stearman to Villa

We should try and milk every penny out of Villa.

If West Brom could get £10 million for Curtis Davies then we should also be able to master the art of deceiving.

This rumour seems to have been aroun for ages...

Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill is preparing to offer former club Leicester £1m for 20-year-old defender Richard Stearman. (Star)

To be fair, has this interest ever been confirmed?

I don't know but the whole thread is based on that premise.

I don't know about you but I'd quite like our full backs to start defending once in a while.

Maybe, but I haven't seen any of the others excel at defending the right back position, besides conceding goals is not really our most pressing problem Stearman has been an integral part of one of the tightest defences in this league granted with a little help from midfield but a decent attacking, ball holding midfield would have a similar impact.

Totally agree with you but I wouldn't be keen to sell Stearman until we do get those decent midfielders in that we are all hoping for.

When he's playing well, Stearman's value is more in being comfortable going forward than in being a consummate defender.

I didn't see him at QPR, but if he can play like he did in the 3 matches before that I'd want more than a million for him. If not, sell sell sell. It's up to what Holloway thinks he can get out of him, I guess.

I was starting to like stearman after his last few games but the QPR game reminded me how poor he is i think 1million is a good deal

It doesn't matter how good or bad he is as a player. He's part of the negative recent years we've all enjoyed so much and needs to be moved on for his own good and ours. The club needs as many new, positive thinking players as it can accumulate. The more old failed players that Holloway can ship out in January, the better. You could throw this whole squad up in the air and any 11 would be no better or worse than any other.

Best not to do it all at once though especially when you're a few points off the bottom - counter productive springs to mind.

Appreciate that, DavieG. Problem is ....just lately there's never a good time to grasp the nettle with Leicester City. This squad is strangling the club slowly.

Stearman has quality in him.

I've seen it.

It hasn't been on view very much for I think a very simple reason.

He needs to be man managed.

Firmly.

He is also needs huge amounts of guidance and encouragement from a manager.

He is starting to get that now - look at his performances since Holloway came in.

Much improved methinks.

He is a lad that is a little insecure despite his bravado and needs sunshine pumped up his bottom and then a smack in the gob when he gets too full and it comes out his mouth.

I wonder how many of the 'get rid of the tw@t' brigade will be on here in a year calling the club for selling all the best players if he's a success in the premier league.

It's a very big 'if' - literally.

Stearman for £1 million might seem like a good deal but the bottom line is we need to bring in players, not sell players that are playing for us week in, week out. if we do bring in a new 16 that are play-off standard, then you can think about selling players.

and wtf does every1 slag our players off all the time. the bottom line is that theyre tryin their best for our club and its not their fault that allen or whoever bought shite and we have a shit squad.

wer in desperate need of some attacking creativity in midfield (& fulop) and thats what we should be concentrating on.

Just feels like another season down the pan

Yep, and the way he plays the majority of the time for a million pounds we'll be having there pants down.

He has the potential but he just doesn't use it, If he doesn't use it playing for us, or if he only uses it when he wants to, he can go as far as i'm concerned whats the point in having him here if he's only willing to use his potential when he feels like it.
