Tommy G Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Yes I did go on a bit! I agree with with everything you said. I just didnt want to type out again pretty much exactly what you said!
mancunianfox Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 I'm sorry but that is absolute bollocks, if ever there was a player in the team who threw himself in where it hurts then Stearman can be counted as one, He may over hoof the ball, he may lose concentration but saying he no heart just shows that you're blinkered in your opinion of him. As for not giving a shit where do you get that from have you not seen his reaction when we/he scores, at the end of games we've won or done well in he's always standing as proud as anyone. And you know him well enough to call him a snob, do you even know what that means? I've never really understood the criticism of him not caring or putting himself about. I've never seen him shy away from getting stuck into a challenge and any knocks he takes he usually shakes them off. I think one of the reasons why I often let things slide where he is concerned is because he does look bothered. It is often mentioned that he watches a lot of the reserve and youth team games and I've read a few posts on here after people who claim to have met him and he has always seemed more than willing to talk about the club.
Webbo Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 I'm sorry but I'm sick of this Stearman is shit boll0x we keep hearing. He's been a regular in the third tightest defence in the division and his goals/assists statistics for a RB must be amongst the best in the division. People criticize him for hoofing the ball away but when he waited for the keeper to collect the ball (and he must of had a shout) people criticize him for that as well.

I think he's badly treated on here and by the fans in general, all our defenders including every goalie we've had since Flowers hoofs it to much, but as they've been forever with out a decent midfield they're probably doing it out of habit. Stearman did very little hoofing when he first broke into the first team because they don't and he didn't do it in the reserves. Having said that in his defence it really was his error of judgement on Saturday because that ball was never going to reach the penalty area to allow Alnwick to pick it up.
Father Ted Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 I was a fan of his tackle in the second half, absolutely crunching tackle, which he came out worst from! That tackle was amazing. For that alone he deserves to be in the side . I do rate the lad but he is not best at decision making.

Alnwick said one of the reasons he signed was that he knew stearman from the u21 squad and that stearman had been raving about how great a club it is. All i can say is after the upheaval we have had, the tumoil this season has been and the performances we have been giving, coupled with the stick he must know he has been given for some performances he put in, Stearman for all his faults must love this club to bits to rave about it to Alnwick....

Like other players I think Stearman will be inspired by the new situation. As the confidence of the team grows so will the confidence of the individuals. Stearman has made mistakes but has never flinched in a massive 100 plus games playing in a bloody awful side with precious little support and movement in front of him. Within that awful set up people overlook the damned difficult role he had to try to fulfill. And with the state of things it was often a no-win situation. I look forward now to seeing Stearman realise his whole potential which is considerable.

I agree he's too good to leave and his worth will only increase if he holds his place in the team and we do well. .............but every player has his price!
Bezzanator89 Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 But in Stearman's case, what would his price be? 7-figure sum? 6-figure sum? Maybe even 5?
Joe. Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 But in Stearman's case, what would his price be? 7-figure sum? 6-figure sum? Maybe even 5? An 8 figure sum rumoured to be around £12 million.
Bezzanator89 Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Heh...one can only dream... He would worth more than flippin' Emile Heskey!
Tommy G Posted 15 January 2008 Posted 15 January 2008 5 Figure? Thats between £10,000 - £99,000... Despite the stick, he is worth a lot more than that!
teblin Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 Martin O'Neill will also try to sign Leicester right-back Richard Stearman and Crystal Palace striker Sean Scannell for the Midlands club. (Daily Mirror)
Telf Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 Villa boss Martin O’Neil is set to launch a 2.5 million raid on his old club Leicester for promising right back Richard Stearman,20 (Daily Mirror) That is a good amount of cash

Possibly some truth in it but couldn't see it for that kind of money. Maybe the negotiations are what's keeing the Osbousne deal on hold. Maybe with Mellberg's end of season departure, O'Neill wants some time with Stearman to get him ready for next season. Maybe even Maybury. I'm bored at work already!

brookfox Posted 30 January 2008 Author Posted 30 January 2008 Maybury??? Sorry, I just started typing to give myself something to pass the time.
MikeyT Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 Sorry, I just started typing to give myself something to pass the time. fair enough!
Ric Flair Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 £2.5 million is obviously a decent amount of cash, but I rate Stearman. The potential is there for him to be a very good defender, but there are obviously parts of his game that need ironing out and O'Neill will be confident he could sort those out and that's perhaps why he's willing to pay that amount for Stearman. We've got two of the most promising full-backs outside of the Premiership, i'd rather we kept them.
Telf Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 2.5 million can do a lot in this league and i reckon if we sell him for 2.5mill we can get some good players like Norris or even Fullop. Plus not doubt there will be a sell on clause in the deal so that is some furture cash also. Plus we got james chambers still to play right back not like we got no one to replace Stearman.

eaststandtom Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 I would warn off this!! Stearman is still the future for us and can get better. He could be worth even more in a couple of years after playing in a better team. He has underperformed for a while but lets not forget he has been playing in a dreadful team but since ollie came he looks to be finding his feet some more. Villa can stick their 2.5 million where the sun don’t shine!! I hate villa! The same can be said of mattock too. Pointless cashing in until they have reach the limits they can achieve with us. I just hope that we can hold onto him in the summer
