The price of crisps

It's disgusting!

Has there been a potato famine in Ireland recently? NO! Not for over 150 years.

I went into my local Leicester Mercury, a renowned purveyor of my favourite source of carbohydrate, only to be charged the princely sum of 42p for a bag of Salt and Linekar!

"Why," I admonished the churlish minx behind the shop counter, "am I paying so great a price for something that ultimately may kill me!?"

The insiped wench merely smiled wanly and proferred an open palm with which to procure my hard-earned coinage.

Of course I paid the price. What else was I to do? Robbery seems excessive, even if it is becoming an increasingly attractive proposition to actually paying for my crisps!

And don't get me started on "Grab Bags" :@

The price has gone up and the content has gone down. Some bags of crisps you only get about 3 mouthfuls these days! Quavers are big offenders!

What gets me is the price of crisps in train stations. When has a packet of McCoys ever been worth 75 pence?

Just buy multi-pack bags of wotsits.

Currently B.O.G.O.F and that is what you call a full bag.

Er, since they started being sold in train stations?:dunno:

Wotsits may be full packets but the crisp itself doesn't consist of much. Wheat Crunchies fill paks because they have holes through the middle. The Nik-Naks multipacks only give you 25g bags which just isn't enough. Boo!

I paid just 30p for a pack of Walkers in a pub on the east coast the other weekend. So amazed was I at the price I decided to lash out and buy the whole family a pack each. My generosity know no bounds, fact!

They need to put their prices up.

The snack cupboad at work does all crisps for 30p. Currently in there are Doritos (Cheese/Cool variaties), Walkers, McCoys & Wotsits (out-of-date so reduced to 5p per bag).

I think you misunderstand the difference between what something is worth and what it costs. A bag of McCoys is not worth 75p

Interesting though that the inflation of a Refresher bar over the past 10 years has been 0%. Maybe Alistair Darling can factor that into his calcualtions (I'm sure he already has us all down to spending 10% of our money on Drumsticks and Refresher bars to offset the rest of the price hikes...)

Do sparkles and a pack of footy stickers still cost 12p?

Big D at the top of Melton Road, next to the Sainsbury's.

99p for a multipack of 9 McCoys. Smashing stuff.

My man-of-the-world-crisp-culturedness glow was slightly shattered when right after posting this I tipped close to half a pint of Lemonade down my front. Updates to follow. Possibly.
