People that drive at rush hour that blatantly aren't going to or from work. Utterly selfish.

To a similar extent but probably worse thinking about it, people that drive their kids to school.

The use of “people of colour”

It’s such an overwhelmingly desperate attempt to be non offensive

Isn't it also actually considered quite offensive nowadays?

It was OK as of about 18 months ago as I helped someone fill out one of those diversity forms for somebody who works for the council and it came back with a tick. I can see it alternative between offensive and acceptable anyway from now on.

I was surprised that "able-bodied" was considered inappropriate, I got that one wrong.

Chukka Umanna has literally just used it now on Politics Live, so I think it's still OK. (person of colour, not able bodied)

So is BME out again?

I think that's still cool, I got pulled up for using LGBT the other week, it's now LGBTQQIP2SAA ( lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, queer, intersex, pansexual, two-spirit (2S), androgynous, and asexual)

Two-Spirit is a modern, pan-Indian, umbrella term used by some indigenous North Americans to describe certain people in their communities who fulfill a traditional third-gender ceremonial role in their cultures. Wikipedia

The more you know eh? I had no idea either.

I struggle to keep track really

l’d be pretty safe just saying that I’m offended at everything though.

Isn’t everyone “of colour” anyway ?

Is white a colour? I’m really pale skinned and very white.

Pardon my ignornance but what is questioning? Am I questioning by asking a question or is it simply the new term for bi curious? Is bi curious now offensive?

Scientifically no but I am pretty sure that I am not white even though I would be described as such

In fact I dont think I have ever seen a “white” person

There was an albino at our uni, she was probably as close to white as you can get. Luckily it was when I lived in Northern Ireland so she wasnt exposed to much sun.

Did someone seriously pull you up on using LGBT? That's ridiculous.

LGBTQ more than suffices. The Q is for queer and covers anyone who doesn't identify as LGBT. They may personally identify as something else, but we don't need a letter in the acronym for every individual ffs. Just as annoying as people saying there needs to be an 'S' for straight or an 'A' for ally.

There was a more generalised alternative proposed a while back in a similar vein to BAME, but it never caught on and I cant remember it now.

Essentially a more broad variation of bi-curious, so it also covers people who may be questioning their gender, or may be pan-/a-sexual. That sort of thing.

It's a reasonable descriptor for an individual, but in my opinion makes no sense as a defined 'label' and even less sense as part of any acronym.

I wouldn't say bi-curious is offensive, although I'm certain you could easily find someone who would disagree with me on that.

Even people devoted to fighting for minority surely get left behind with the language used sometimes? Finnegan is exactly right, it's to do with intent. The baying mobs on the internet that hound people over semantics are wrong and actually damage the causes they think they're helping as they give ammunition to the people that think the 'I identify as an attack helicopter' joke is funny.

Why is that may I ask? Is calling someone black or middle-Eastern also Offensive? They are black/Latino/Middle-eastern aren't they? So why not just call them that? You can't call someone by their ethnicity nor can you call them a "person of color" without someone getting offended.

There is too much sensitivity going around, it's laughable.

If people feel like they want to be offended then just let them.

End of the day, most offence should come from intent really. If someone is clearly trying to be polite and is just out of date on the right lingo and you choose to be offended, you're the **** tbh.

If you've taken the time to explain to them why you'd rather they not use X term and they still do, they are.

Ain't rocket science.

Word.

As I said it is just the next phrase to churn out to be non-offensive. It’s that last month’s “right on” is this month’s unspeakable insult and so on.

Is black/brown/yellow/white/middle eastern really more offensive than”of colour” ?

If not why do we have to have this repetition of offence - new label - and so on .....

Kermit is “of colour”  as are each of the Teletubbies - WTF !

And I’m going with the spirit of your last line by being offended at people being offended and people not letting me be offended at them being offended ........
