Kilworthfox Posted 27 November 2008 Author Posted 27 November 2008 I'll just say MON >>>>> Wenger! By a country mile! Also Redknapp
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 Since when was Pires world fooking class?!?! At his peak, in my opinion, Pires was world class. A twat, but a class footballer.
Corky Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 I'll just say MON >>>>> Wenger! By a country mile! Pearson >>>> Wenger
AyewJoking Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 He's building for the future. He's had "great" teams when you think back to the Bergkamp/Vieria and Petit/Henry plus countless others but I think he's trying to build his own team that will one day rule the world and maybe find a cure for cancer. Are you only a great manager if you win trophies regularly?

Grestness come with success, you have to look at what resources are available also. Clough was great of a few years, a real champion, however when the partnership with Taylor broke down & excessive drinking took hold he became lass great. Ferguson is a legend! O'Neill at Leicester was successful without winning any Leagues because of the scale of the achievement in the Cups & gaining European status. Success can only be measured by achievements and how difficult they were to attain.
Ric Flair Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 Very easy to knock Wenger right now, I however think it's unfair to call him over-rated. The season they went unbeaten was absolutely ridiculous in modern sport. For that alone, the man is a genius. Ok, he's not covered himself in gold in the past few years and he's about as gracious as a skidmark, but he's unique and original. He is trying to write history for Arsenal in a way no others do. Frustrating as it is, when resources are or have been out there for him to buy proven players, I respect the man. Football is all about winning, but plenty fail in trying to achieve that. Wenger and Arsenal try and win their way, and in the past 10 years there's been few better teams to watch when they are in form. Thierry Henry was the best finisher the premiership has ever seen, I doubt he'll be bettered either.
sdb Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 Sorry, i love MO'N but he is not better than Wenger. And i'll take the Redknapp suggestion as a joke. Only Ferguson can stand above him as managers in England over the last 10-15 years (Mourinho incuded). This has only come up becasue of a poor start to the season.

He's had "great" teams when you think back to the Bergkamp/Vieria and Petit/Henry plus countless others but I think he's trying to build his own team that will one day rule the world How long is he going to have to build this team for the future though? For years now his teams have had no backbone and crumble at the typical games you expect them too, Bolton, Stoke etc.
Phube Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 Thierry Henry was the best finisher the premiership has ever seen, I doubt he'll be bettered either. Shearer!?
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 Thierry Henry was the best finisher the premiership has ever seen, I doubt he'll be bettered either. It's not about bettering Henry, anyone that comes close to him would be brilliant, but I don't think Adebayor is in the same league. With the money they have, they must find a world class finisher.
Thracian Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 Arsene Wenger at Arsenal; * Premier League: 1997-98, 2001-02, 2003-04 * FA Cup: 1997-98, 2001-02, 2002-03, 2004-05 * FA Community Shield: 1998, 1999, 2002, 2004 Hardly a failure. His record speaks for itself really and is a credit to the type of football he's tried to play. I wish Leicester City had been such "failures" during the same period.
CosbehFox Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 Also Redknapp Now there is an over-rated manager. Probably 4 decent seasons during his whole career.
Koke Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 I hope you were being sarcastic, but if you weren't... No way Redknapp and O'Neill being better than Wenger. That's an insult to what Wenger has achieved at Arsenal with a budget less than the laughingstock called Spurs. What O'Neill achieved at Leicester was remarkable. Redknapp has been manager for just about 25 [TWENTY FIVE] years and has won one FA Cup. If you wanna talk about an over rated manager, Harry Redknapp is your man.

I'd love to see Arsene do what he has done at an unfashionable club, "Thiery would you like to come to Wigan, you know small town near Manchester, to play for me?" I don't think so... The only reason I rate Ferguson as highly as I do is because of Aberdeen, not ManU!

A player like David Villa would be the perfect man for Arsenal. But he's obviously out of Wenger's "price" scope. And to throw another name into the hat: Hector Cuper
Number 6 Posted 28 November 2008 Posted 28 November 2008 Brilliant manager. I think any Arsenal fan calling for his head is stupid. Their youth team also shows how has ensured Arsenal will be a top team for many years to come.
lildave3 Posted 28 November 2008 Posted 28 November 2008 Brilliant manager. I think any Arsenal fan calling for his head is stupid. Their youth team also shows how has ensured Arsenal will be a top team for many years to come. Not really, most of them will have moved on.
Alexikokopops Posted 28 November 2008 Posted 28 November 2008 Wow, a couple of seasons without winning owt and every forgets how much Arsenal have won before.
Phube Posted 28 November 2008 Posted 28 November 2008 Dario Gradi >>> Wenger So the list stands at: MON, Dario, Clough, Redknapp, Fergy>>>>> Wenger
lildave3 Posted 28 November 2008 Posted 28 November 2008 So the list stands at: MON, Dario, Clough, Redknapp, Fergy>>>>> Wenger Add me to that, i'm on a par with Cloughie.
Ultra Posted 28 November 2008 Posted 28 November 2008 Add me to that, i'm on a par with Cloughie. As a manager, or a drinker?
Corky Posted 28 November 2008 Posted 28 November 2008 So the list stands at: MON, Dario, Clough, Redknapp, Fergy>>>>> Wenger And I'll explain why. Gradi has spent 25 years at a club, Crewe, where he has had no money at all. He's brought through players from a young age to sell them for good fees and keep the club going. As soon as one went, another one came along, and so on. He's stuck by that, and even now, with Crewe in dire straits, he still insists on them playing football on the floor, passing the ball around, just like Wenger. You never hear him whinge, or moan, or complain, just gets on with his task. He manages the youth teams as well and looks after all those players, nurtures them through until they leave. He is a credit to his club, management and the game. Dario- I salute you and wish you every success. I can't wish the same for Wenger I'm afraid.
Samilktray Posted 28 November 2008 Posted 28 November 2008 So the list stands at: MON, Dario, Clough, Redknapp, Fergy>>>>> Wenger Redknapp and MON better than Wenger? Get a grip, your petty little hate affair with Arsenal clouds your judgement something silly.
Corky Posted 28 November 2008 Posted 28 November 2008 Redknapp and MON better than Wenger?Get a grip, your petty little hate affair with Arsenal clouds your judgement something silly. Redknapp isn't better than Wenger. O'Neill won things with Wycombe, Leicester and Celtic, and could quite easily with Villa as well. I'd rate O'Neill as highly as Wenger.
