Shrenchel Posted 9 July 2009 Posted 9 July 2009 If we really desperately need a disruptive influence on the squad then why not just keep DJ? As for our money situation instead of buying new players why don't we use our academy products as this will surely save us money and help us in the long term. Why would he be a disruptive influence?! By all accounts, he's a favourite in the leeds dressing room. He's just an arrogant wannabe roadman, not really important though is it.
Fox92 Posted 9 July 2009 Posted 9 July 2009 He has a attitude problem no doubt about it but would I have him here? Not too sure really. At this moment when we only have Dickov and Campbell as 'capable' back up then I most probably would. However, not sure about the price - what did it say £2million Then again, who is proven in the championship, scores lots of goals and is avaliable for less than £2million because I don't think I can think of one player and most certainley Jermaine Beckford scored lots of goals last season. Everyone was going on about Simon Cox and Rickie Lambert but those two players are also unproven at championship level so without paying a fair amount of cash I don't think we will be able to buy a current championship goalscorer. The only other options are paying a fair amount of money that we will not do to sign someone (eg, Kevin Doyle went to Wolves) or look through the ranks of Liverpool, Manchester United, Aresenal, Chelsea, Everton these big clubs and see if we can snap up a striker that nobodys heard of. - Plymouth Argyle did it with Ebanks-Blake when they signed him from Manchester United and he was a fantastic signing for both them and Wolves. I would prefer Beckford to Campbell and Dickov no doubt about it. He has pace, fairly bigger than Fryatt I think and can score goals (a natural goalscorer at league 1 level anyway). I don't think you can possibly compare him with Andy Keogh but I would to have him as well
Legend_in_blue Posted 9 July 2009 Posted 9 July 2009 He has an attitude. Good. He is arrogant. Good. He has a chip on his shoulder. Good. He's big headed. Good. We need somebody like this in the team. It takes a good manager to deal with the likes of Beckford - NP can do that. There's so many similarities here between Collymore and MON. And for the most part, MON pulled it off. NP can do the same here. I say get him in - having missed the boat with Cox, Beckford is the next best striker to bring in imo. If not, look abroad. Almost forgot... In terms of price we will not get the quality we need for any less than £1.5 million. It just won't happen. Not from this country. Look how much Chopra went for... and I'd hardly call him outstanding.
flanimal Posted 9 July 2009 Posted 9 July 2009 Could be a good signing, but he'll be way overpriced and a big gamble. Plus, I just want to punch him every time I watch him play!

Why have a team of "Nice" people, nice people get you nowhere in football, need a bit of grit in the team. However i cant see us signing him in a million years due to the price, if he goes for any less than 3 mill i would be shocked.

Totally agree everything here was gonna say the same...can someone give me examples of arragence and bad attitude apart from the fact hes turned down an offer of a contract at Leeds. I hear these words all the time when Beckford is mentioned but cant think of examples myself. Facts please not something you may of heard from your granny who lives in Leeds..please fill me in. I would luv it luv it, if we we signed him. We really need a top top striker to get out of this league, there aren't many about. Cant believe cox went for 1.5m plus add ons. Surely we could of matched that.
Bert Posted 9 July 2009 Posted 9 July 2009 He'd be a good signing. Pearson wouldn't take any shit from him.
Walshy5 Posted 9 July 2009 Posted 9 July 2009 Id love it if we signed him but I just cant see it. Leeds are going to want 2 million for him at the very least and if we wouldnt pay that for Cox then there is no reason why we would for him.
flanimal Posted 9 July 2009 Posted 9 July 2009 I think Cox pissed off Pearson by (if Knowitall is to be believed) kind of agreeing to sign, then shifting interest to Celtic at the first opportunity. Nigel Pearson seems to value loyalty in the players, and Cox seemed to disrespect him a bit. fook him anyway! The whole Beckford thing is so unlikely. Leeds want £3m, we only seem OK with spending £1m on anyone. Apparently a few weeks back, Steve Walsh was in Eastern Europe scouting, maybe he was checking out strikers. It won't be Saidhodza though, that rumour is utter bullshit.

Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 9 July 2009 Posted 9 July 2009 Unfortunately this is another of those rumours that I cannot see having any credability, Beckford will mistakingly think he should be at a bigger and better placed club than Leicester city. Lets be realistic even though Leicester have premier league aspirations it will probably take a few seasons to get there, so he will be looking for a club in a better position for a place in the premier league sooner rather than later.
Mickey O'Neil Posted 9 July 2009 Posted 9 July 2009 This would be a cracking signing if it was true. The Lids season ticket holders at work (realistically) expect to get ~£2m for him. I was quite surprised by this tbh. JB is a goalscorer and I'd love to see him here.
Vlad The Impaler Posted 9 July 2009 Posted 9 July 2009 Unless I've missed something that's just a rumour too, no less of a rumour than the Saidhodzha one. Nope that's true
flanimal Posted 9 July 2009 Posted 9 July 2009 Yeah, Steve Walsh was in Eastern Europe scouting, he confirmed it. But 7 signings so far, all from the British leagues - doesn't back up the scouting mission much. Although, Mandaric did say he'd bring in around 6 new players and not just re-signing loan players. So, out of Hobbs, Brown, Ajdarevic, Neilson, Wellens, Weale and N'Guessan - we could be getting another two.

The Doctor Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 Unless I've missed something that's just a rumour too, no less of a rumour than the Saidhodzha one. remeber that "facts" that begin with apparantly are always utter bullshit.
flanimal Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 Steve Walsh was in Eastern Europe scouting, the club confirmed it. What country, what players - no one knows, but he was scouting in that area of the world. It's not a rumour, it's just a very vague fact.

Bert Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 I'm lead to believe Beckford has been looking around our training ground a few weeks ago...
