MPH Posted 14 August 2009 Posted 14 August 2009 I'm a philanthropist geez, don't like to see everyone wasting their time and energy that something that's never gunna happen. NP has said there's not a lot of cash knocking about and we couldn't compete with Lita's 20 grand wage demands. Beckford apparently hasn't signed up in Leeds because they didn't wanna meet his 15 grand plus wage demands so where does the fook does anyone in their right mind think we're gunna find the queenies for his wages plus the 3 million transfer fee on top?! Is Milan gunna stick the million we got for Mattock on a staight-up down Gala? seems like there has been news of a bid a few days after our so called billionaire new owners were looking at the books... EDIT: its actually more likely that even though Beckford has been taken off the list someone is trying to still engineer a move .. Wether its him because he wants to play in a higher division or Leeds throwing fees around they want to get because he has less than a year to go of his contract, remains to be seen....
carterfox90 Posted 14 August 2009 Posted 14 August 2009 as said we could'nt afford 1.5 mill for cox so how are we going to afford 3 million for beckford nice dream though he is a class striker but has a bad attitude that may affect are good team spirit at the moment we obviously were not interested in lambert for 1 million now that would have been a good buy does make you wonder what is going on regarding our striker search or is waghorn it for this season ??????????

What is it with people thinking we couldnt afford £1.5m for cox we bid £1.5m for cox and when swindon said they wanted £2m we told them to shove it because he wasnt worth it plus the fact he wasnt exactly doing cartwheels to get here. Oh and by the way lambert is crap!!!

WE HAVE SOLD MATTOCK SINCE Some people are fook ing stupid. Simple maths. mattock will also be off the wage bill so theres an extra 5-10k on wages we can afford to spend. Jeez
superfox1980 Posted 14 August 2009 Posted 14 August 2009 WE HAVE SOLD MATTOCK SINCESome people are fook ing stupid. Simple maths. mattock will also be off the wage bill so theres an extra 5-10k on wages we can afford to spend. Jeez God !! How many times......................do people not think that NP simply didn't want to £1.5m for Cox !!!
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 Beckford may have built up a bit of a playboy image, but he is is an extremely talented footballer. I would truly love to see him come here, as he would more than complement the firepower up front. He is an individual who can create goals, as well as score them, and is excellent at turning a half chance into a goal.. Unfortunately, I do not see our apparent limited finances stretching far enough, to bring his quality to our club. However, you never know. Better to live in hope, than have no hope at all.
Finnegan Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 Can't see us spending millions on anyone, there obviously isn't the money. Don't see Mattock's departure as a sale to make money for more arrivals but more just as too good to turn down given how much money we lost last year. Mandaric just isn't a financial super power compared to some of the men that own football clubs; since his time at Portsmouth the game has changed a lot and we're just not as affluent as people want to believe. We can't even offer competitive wages to the likes of Lita, you think Mattock's sale alone is going to not only afford Beckford but also open up enough on the wage budget to bring him in? Maybe, but I highly doubt it. Mattock wasn't exactly going to have been on megabucks as a youngster here.

Finnegan Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 the mattock sale was forced bcus he wanted to leave Rubbish, mate. Boy had a contract and we're his home town club. If we'd made him honour it he'd have eventually calmed down and played for Pearson again. I can understand Pearson not wanting to cling to a player whose heart is elsewhere but we sold him for the money and for the amount that's quoted then rightfully so.
The Doctor Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 No way will Milan fork out 3 million for a player. i would hope not in this case because as i've said in another thread, beckford is overrated. unproven above L1 and major disipline problems does not a £3 million striker make. simply because he scored 30 goals last season does not mean that hes any good. it could well have been a flash in the pan like nathan ellington for wigan a couple of years ago.
lildave3 Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 Jermaine Beckford is different gravy. Jermaine Beckford is a twat.
L.C.F.C. Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 Personally I don't think Beckford is overrated, I think he would do well at championship level even though he's "Unproven" in that league. Problem is Leeds' overinflated price tag, and Beckfords egotistical wage demands. When his contract runs out at Leeds, it's clear he'll move on, and whoever will pay his wages will get a decent player. If it's a championship club, I believe they'll get 20 goals out of him, If it's a prem club, he'll probably struggle down to not having faced that level of defenders before. Oh, and there's more chance of us buying Ade Akinbiyi back than there is of seeing Beckford in a Leicester shirt any time soon!!!!
C-man Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 WE HAVE SOLD MATTOCK SINCESome people are fook ing stupid. Simple maths. mattock will also be off the wage bill so theres an extra 5-10k on wages we can afford to spend. Jeez Well, actually.... if we used the £1.5m we were going to spend on Cox and the £1.2m (for the sake of argument, most sources quote 'just over a million up front') we get £2.7m. Not quite £3m is it. Now who's the mathmetician? Anyway, I forgot that football clubs just worked like that. No other costs and revenues, profits or losses or balance sheets to worry about, just player's wages and transfer fees.
skinnydipper Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 I doubt that cost is the biggest impediment to Beckford coming here I suspect he thinks he's too big time for us and will wait to see if the likes of Newcastle or a bottom end premiership team come in for him
Sniffer-Clarke Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 I think if NP really wanted JB he would have to sell again possibly AK.
Tuna Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 Forget it, Beckford will not be coming to the Walkers. We do not have 3 million pounds to spend and, much like Lita, we probably would not be able to offer him what some of our rivals can. If we were to be in a bidding war for him we would lose. In any case, I think a player's character is very important to the gaffer and Beckford is indeed a bad apple with a questionable attitude and discipline. Frankly, I wouldn't touch him for 300k.

Dan Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 I think if NP really wanted JB he would have to sell again possibly AK. I think he should offer £££ + DJ personally instead of selling King.
Father Ted Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 THIS IS A LOAD OF RUBBISH This is recycled nonsense to fill up space and MM won't spend the cash. Please close this thread Mods as it only allows fools like Samilktray to post (just an example): Beckford is a sexy beast :locked:
suffolk fox Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 I can't understand why a lot of City fans rate Beckford and seem to think he would do a job here. As Matty Fryatt has proved there is a whole host of difference between scoring goals for fun in the 1st Division and trying to score goals in the Championship. They are a league apart much like the Championship and the Premiership. Why Beckford? There is a strong possibility Billy Sharpe maybe going to Franchise on a season long loan. Why also didn't we try and get Ricky Lambert before he went to Southampton? Lambert and Sharpe are both equally as good as Beckford. Look on Waccoe and some Leeds supporters slag him off and say he has an attitude problem. I would like City to bring in another striker as back up for Fryatt, Howard and Waghorn. However folks we ain;'t going to be spending 3 million or over inflated wages. Bates wouldn't sell Beckford for anything less than 4 million anyway.....fact!
