lildave3 Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 I'm lead to believe Beckford has been looking around our training ground a few weeks ago... 'Choo talkin' 'bout Willis.
foxoffderby Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 I'm lead to believe Beckford has been looking around our training ground a few weeks ago... Really? why havent you mentioned it before?
flanimal Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 Beckford wasn't at our training ground - but if it makes the thread interesting - I witnessed him getting Filbert Fox tattoo over his left nipple.
Bert Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 Really? why havent you mentioned it before? I was only told about 2 hours ago. Beckford wasn't at our training ground - but if it makes the thread interesting - I witnessed him getting Filbert Fox tattoo over his left nipple. Yes he was.
mmarkie Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 Beckford wasn't at our training ground - but if it makes the thread interesting - I witnessed him getting Filbert Fox tattoo over his left nipple. Funneh.
Unabomber Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 Bert gets out his big spoon and gives the thread a stir.
flanimal Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 Honestly, it's possible, but I won't believe it unless there's more factual evidence. Anyone can post a rumour and call it news (just check out The Mercury!) Of course, if he's right and Beckford is here - Bert is the new Knowitall, and I bow at his feet!

Guest Bilo Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 Fairly ambivalent about Beckford myself, but as long as we didn't pay silly money for him, I'd be reasonably happy if we actually signed him. As has been said, Bert isn't known as a bullshitter.
Ultra Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 If we offload DJ in part-exchange, it could be a decent deal for us. I doubt Beckford will want higher wages than what DJ's on at the moment.
Ozwin Posted 11 July 2009 Posted 11 July 2009 Amazing, I really hope we get him. He's exactly what we need.
flanimal Posted 11 July 2009 Posted 11 July 2009 Yeah, but would DJ be willing to drop to League 1. I doubt it.
Vlad The Impaler Posted 11 July 2009 Posted 11 July 2009 Yeah, but would DJ be willing to drop to League 1. I doubt it. They would most likely be able to pay his wages though, i'm sure he wouldn't mind dropping a league for first team football aswell. Good luck to him wherever he goes it just a shame he never really hit off here, ah well. Thats the way the cookie crumbles
Sly Posted 11 July 2009 Posted 11 July 2009 I'm lead to believe Beckford has been looking around our training ground a few weeks ago... Didn't Cox look around the training ground as well though? Beckford would be an interesting signing. Is he any better than DJ Campbell though? At least Campbell has proved he'll score goals in the Championship. Beckford can shoot, I'll acknowledge that, be his second touch is generally a tackle and from what I've seen of his, he relies on his pace. I’m not saying that's a bad thing and he'd be different to what we have. I just have visions of a better version of Elvis Hammond!! Beckford goes missing in big games and in the Championship we have 46 big games. The three or four Leeds fans I've spoken to have said they'd rip our hand off for £1m and pack Beckford’s bag for £1m + DJ. He scores goals yes but that is out weighed by his attitude which will eventually impact negativity upon the rest of the team. I'm sure Pearson knows what he's doing and not being a larger fish in a shrinking pond may make him adjust that.

I'm sure Pearson knows what he's doing and not being a larger fish in a shrinking pond may make him adjust that. My step-daughter's father and grandfather are big Leeds fans ( she usually wears her Leicester City shirt when she sees them, just for fun ), and they definitely do not rate Beckford at all, they like that 'gipsy bloke' they've got better. Add on to that the undoubted fact that Beckford would be a nightmare for team moral and you have enough to close down this thread. We would dislike him more than Leeds fans do if we got him ( even more than DJ ), and there is no way Nigel Pearson would ever bring him in. Let someone as hopeless as Shearer have him. End Of!

But in no way did I say Beckford was nailed on to sign, and I'm not saying that he will do either. I just thought I'd let people know what I heard. I'm not going to lie, this isn't as credible as my usual stuff, but the person who told me would not lie to me, I know that much. Beckford is believed to be touching £25k a week on wages as well btw. People who post on here know that I can be fairly reliable with stuff, and I wouldn't want people to think otherwise.

StanSP Posted 11 July 2009 Posted 11 July 2009 Has Bert killed off Knowitall or something? Haven't seen the latter around at all recently
Munzie Posted 11 July 2009 Posted 11 July 2009 Beckford is too high risk for us to sign. As already mentioned, he does go missing for periods of matches he plays in. His disciplinary record is poor and his ego writes cheques his body can't cash. Wherever he goes, if he's not an instant success he will struggle. Fans will get on his back and he will fade out of games again. For what it will cost us, other targets should be considered first.

flanimal Posted 11 July 2009 Posted 11 July 2009 Instead of £3m for Beckford, I'd rather they brough Kee into the first team.

Other tarets have been considered and they have turned us down. Such as Simon Cox. We NEED at least another striker. i would much prefer us to take a risk on Beckford than not get another striker in. Beckfords skill and scoring can not be brought into question just his temperament.... i think that is the only concern about signing him....
