It wasn't convoluted it was simple that is for the team I just felt the need to build it up a little :D . Besides when you ask a question that you know no one can realistically answer you should be pleased you even got a response :P

As for Gerrard that's completely different Heskey was playing in his best position where as Gerrard was not and therefore the benefit his presence in the team may have brought was significantly reduced. He hardly needed match practice so there was no reason what so ever to include him.

That's the kind of thing I was hoping for :D, admittance that no-one can answer the question because Heskey has done bugger all to even earn a call-up nevermind a start.

I still dont think these sort of friendlies should be at Wembley. 50000 in 90000, better off playing at the Emirates.

They have to justify and recover the excessive cost somehow.

defoe is a great player I think he'll score a lot of goals for england in the future, and the reason I would choose him over owen.

That would mean thinking about the fans, the FA thinking about the fans. :D

Fair. I never take friendlies too seriously and I felt the players were only in 3rd gear. Did just enough to win.

Another pretty sub-standard performance really.

1) Already mentioned it, but our best player shouldn't be starting on the left wing.

2) Defoe should start the next game ahead of Heskey. Everything he touches seems to go in at the moment, for both club and country. Deserves the opportunity to show what he can do against a decent side.

3) Less of the usual hoofball, which was nice.

4) Basically just lacked a bit of cuttng edge when it mattered. Rooney was mostly guilty of that, although he was a bit unlucky on a couple of occassions. Missing from two yards out was pretty inexcusable though.

My team to face Croatia:

James

Johnson --- Terry --- Upson --- Cole

Lennon --- Gerrard --- Lampard --- Wright-Phillips

Defoe --- Rooney

Something like that anyway.

I'd go with that, but keep Green in goal. Don't see why he should be dropped after only playing a friendly.

Don't fancy Wright-Phillips on the left wing at all, although having said that I don't think I can offer an alternative. With Joe Cole injured it's a real problem position.

I think France will beat Romania at home. But then you might beat France.

How does that leave Serbia?

2 points ahead having played the same number of games.

We play France in Belgrade in midweek.

I sometimes wonder if Roonney gets by on his reputation..

I'd actually prefer a Crouch Defoe frontline...

My dad thinks the same, he thinks he's so over rated. I like the chap but sometimes I would like to see if another partnership would work, it has in the past, and we all know that the best players dont always make the best teams.

Meh. Really uninspiring and uneventful first half between Switzerland and Greece. Neither team in this contest between the first and second in the group wants to risk too much. Two master tacticians with Hitzfeld on one and Rehhagel on the other side - it's like chess with real life figurines, only more crap.

(I'm/The audience in Basle is) probably going to die from a sudden attack of dullness.

I know you wont be surprised but I have a sinking feeling for england on wednesday. I think its just years of dissapointment just makes me feel pessimistic when we play.
