Chrysalis Posted 20 January 2010 Posted 20 January 2010 That made loads of sense mate, well done. Forest don't need to sell. Even if they think an offer for one of their players is reasonable, they can reject it. Take a chance that the player will improve and progress, or use him as back-up in case they get a few injuries. We don't have that luxury. It's not gunna be £200,000, maybe more like £400,000. Even that is not a particularly good offer for Gradel but if it's the only chance we're gunna get to open up some funds for a bit of transfer activity then maybe we have to take it. I wouldn't piss on Ken Bates if his beard was on fire but he knows what he's doing. He knows we're hard-up and he can press us into taking a slightly below par offer. now you making sense, I agree if someone knows you need to sell they can play hard ball. But I expect Milan to do his job and play hard ball back. Unfortenatly I think Bates will come out on top. If he went for say 500k, rising to a million if they promoted and then a further 500k after 50 appearances, that would be reasonable to me.
Babylon Posted 20 January 2010 Posted 20 January 2010 Also, he seems to have gone off the boil slightly in last 2 or 3 games. Hardly getting rave reviews of their forum, can't see them forking out any significant amount for him. HOW DARE YOU SUGGEST HE'S NOT ACTUALLY BEEN ALL THAT!!!!!!! They've not played him to keep his price down don't you know, not because he blows hot and cold.
Edmund Posted 20 January 2010 Posted 20 January 2010 Hmm. Could it be that Pearson let Gradel out on loan so that he could somewhat trick the Championship opposition? Sure - by now, Gradel's skills will have attracted even more interest from other clubs, the League One experience (and the tragic event in his personal life) have certainly made him a better player. Is it possible that Pearson wants to keep Gradel further off the radar in order to make other teams believe they were already facing a fully-settled Leicester side? Maybe Gradel could act as a welcome off-the-bench surprise in the months to come...? I highly doubt that. Surely you want your best players playing week in week out and not being loaned out to the league below. For whatever reason Pearson doesn't rate him or doesn't see a place for him in the squad. I'm hoping he makes an appearance against Cardiff, that's if he's still with the club though.

backinthebigtime Posted 20 January 2010 Posted 20 January 2010 Won't be just MM who says it should be undisclosed I don't think.I don't even know why transfers are 'undisclosed' in the first place. its so Milan doesnt have to tell the tax man !! allegedly
Bert Posted 20 January 2010 Posted 20 January 2010 He got overly bummed on here because he was doing well for the academy. How many players were awesome in the academy and then turned out distinctly average? Gradel is a very good impact player. He didn't even show consistent form in League One for us though, so what's to say that he can cut in the The Championship? I'm not so sure yet that he's got everything to compete 90 minutes week in week out. For a winger his crossing is very poor and is sometimes very frustrating. BUT, he is one of them players that can change a game in minutes, and can show flashes of brilliance Sadly, they only come every so often, and he can also be very temperamental.. I'd love to keep him and have him on the bench every week, with his possible impact maybe gaining a start. Then again, if the lad has a chance to play regular football, he's going to want to do that rather than be a bit part player. I'd love to see him in the squad for Saturday saying all this though..
Edmund Posted 20 January 2010 Posted 20 January 2010 I'd love to see him in the squad for Saturday saying all this though.. Lets hope so Would be a perfect time to bring him in, especially with something to prove.
Rich Fox Posted 20 January 2010 Posted 20 January 2010 If they sell Gradel to Leeds then we might as well burn the walkers stadium down, we are 7th in the championship not bottom. We have had loads of players over the years who play crap for us then as soon as they go anywhere else they are great, this will happen with Gradel if we sell him.

Who the hell have we got who competes for 90 minutes in an effective way? Your comment is typical of what is expected here and why Leicester City is a graveyard for wingers. Oh yes some players chug away for 90 minutes but then they are not having to input the explosive running and movement required of wingers. In fact the movement within our team is woeful most of the time let alone over 90 minutes. If, for example Kingy, had to produce the pace and energy of Gradel he wouldn't last half-an-hour let alone 90 minutes. He paces himself. Our defenders win possession, punt the ball forward and that's about it until their next interception. Get Neilson overlapping like a winger and he's quickly exposed by the acres of space behind him because of his medium-paced recovery. Dyer manages 45 minutes and mostly fades thereafter, perhaps making an hour's realistic contribution on a good day. Howard is hardly a 90 minutes man these days - one hour is plenty and Fryatt is another who so often fades after a good first 30 minutes. For Oakley his time on the wing is not about flying past people or tearing defences apart with quick one-two's. He closes down and occasionally tries a few threaded passes. It's rare even to see him in the box. So why the extra special demands of Grade?. Grayson uses him sparingly while he develops the greater endurance and experience about pacing games that will come with time an approach advocated by many but we prefer the hardly mercurial wing skills of Oakley, N'Guessan, Gallagher et al. As for Gradel's "flashes"of brilliance, Fryatt and King'sgoals apart over two excepted I'm fairly sure Gradel would have scored or had a hand in as many goals as anyone and from fewer starts than some of the hopefuls Pearson persists with whether in their natural positions or otherwise.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 20 January 2010 Posted 20 January 2010 Is Gradel not cup tied then? We had it in the loan agreement that he could not play in the FA cup for them.

So you'll stick up for and bum Gradel for being an inconsistent winger at league one level, but regularly slaughter our wingers for being the same at a higher level? N'Guessans record is more than comparable to Gradels exploits for Leeds.
MikeyT Posted 21 January 2010 Posted 21 January 2010 From Skysports.com Leeds United have made a renewed bid for Max Gradel after seeing their initial offer rejected, skysports.com understands. The Ivorian forward has just spent three months on-loan at Elland Road. He returned to The Walkers Stadium earlier this week, but Leeds are now looking to bring him back to West Yorkshire in a permanent deal. Leeds made an offer to Leicester earlier this month, and that has now been rejected. But Simon Grayson has wasted little time in upping his offer for the 22-year-old.

Chrysalis Posted 21 January 2010 Posted 21 January 2010 ahh the old hot and cold chestnut. ronaldo henry beckham examples of brilliant players who all still are hot and cold. At least we turned down a bid which hopefully means he wont be going for as low as 200k if he goes.
Tilley Posted 21 January 2010 Posted 21 January 2010 People expect millions for Max Gradel?!?! Jesus

I've seen virtually nothing from N'Guessan that suggests he's a winger at all. Striker? Maybe. And yes, I'd stand Gradel's corner anytime. He's got the sort of talent that can turn any game and make spectators enjoy their afternoon's entertainment and he'd be in my squad way ahead of many I've seen in a City shirt. All his critics seem to do is focus on what he can't do. List any City outfield player and I'll list all sorts of limitations they have and things they can't appear to do. If every City player had Gradel's ability I'm sure I'd look forward to games instead of becoming increasingly indifferent. Hardly a single shot on target as we chase a promotion place? And you defend them?
whitlock Posted 21 January 2010 Posted 21 January 2010 I've seen virtually nothing from N'Guessan that suggests he's a winger at all. Striker? Maybe. QPR away, N'Guessan was top notch as a winger, hasnt really happened since then with a few sub cameo's

And you defend them? The problem is that most wingers like Gradel have as many off days as they do on days which is why opinion is so divided on him. He does however possess the one thing that no other player has in abundance at Leicester and that is flair and the ability to do something sublime. I for one would rather see excitement than monotonous boring hoofball but while we are winning more than we are losing there is little chance of us playing expansive football in the near future. I hope he gets the chance but doubt that will be the case.
CosbehFox Posted 21 January 2010 Posted 21 January 2010 I've seen virtually nothing from N'Guessan that suggests he's a winger at all. Selective memory. How about the cross of the season at QPR. He's looked as easily as good as Gradel but he's been used to sparingly because of Pearson's 'a draw is better than nothing' attitude but I totally understand that attitude given the nature of the division and the expectancy from his chairman. Maybe if we had more of a gap we might have played a more open game? Our problems in other managerial era's were largely down to our failure in being hard to beat.
