davieG Posted 31 October 2009 Posted 31 October 2009 From the Merc: Leicester City chairman Milan Mandaric has said that Edgar Davids' wage expectations scuppered a move to the club. City announced yesterday they were pulling out of the race to sign the 36-year-old Dutch international. The club made the decision with Mandaric saying that Davids' representatives increased the amount of money they wanted City to pay the player. Mandaric also believes there is another club involved. Mandaric told the Mercury: "We had a good offer on the table and there were further discussions about bonuses and other matters." Mandaric ran out of patience yesterday morning after nearly two weeks of negotiations. The chairman set a noon deadline for the 36-year-old to commit his future to City, but there was still nearly an hour to go when he pulled the plug on the deal. That was the third deadline which had not been met since City confirmed their interest on October 20. Mandaric said: "It's disappointing because we have given this a lot of time and we were in the race for him all the way." The Mercury made strenuous attempts yesterday to contact Davids' agent, Robert Geerlings, but without success.
Guest Bilo Posted 31 October 2009 Posted 31 October 2009 After last night, who would you drop for him? That game made me realise how little we needed Davids and that it's a good thing his agent is a greedy cockmuncher.
skinnydipper Posted 31 October 2009 Posted 31 October 2009 Relieved he's not coming to be honest. I'd like to think that he would've wanted to come because he was interested in playing football again. It seems the breakdown in negotiations was about cold hard cash so no big loss IMO
muffin Posted 1 November 2009 Posted 1 November 2009 spot on yes, he was looking for someone with that extra something........ shevachinkachenko!!! ahhh thats him Edgar Davids ? We definately dodged a bullet there. muffin.
Thracian Posted 1 November 2009 Posted 1 November 2009 For all his illustrious footballing past, the bloke played fewer than 100 club games in the last five seasons. The whole saga struck me as more showbiz gimmick than footballing masterstroke.
grth2004 Posted 22 November 2009 Posted 22 November 2009 i know everybody is bored with this story but just seen this to end it all FITNESS FIRST IN EYES OF DAVIDS Former Holland midfielder Edgar Davids is looking to maintain his fitness by training with an English club - and could find himself in demand as a result. The 36-year-old has not played competitive football for 18 months but recently was linked with Coca-Cola Championship side Leicester and has been reportedly been a target for Barclays Premier League strugglers Portsmouth. "I don't really want to play but it depends on what team," said Davids, who was in London to judge the UK Final of Red Bull Street Style 2009. "Training with a team brings a lot of media pressure for that team but I'm waiting for something like that. I just hope to train and contribute with my experience to the team. It is a different mentality." Davids' experience means he could be a valuable asset for clubs to tap into. "I just want to train with a team and give my expertise," the former Tottenham midfielder added. "In future, I'd rather be a board member of a club than a manager." Davids' obligations with his charities and Red Bull meant he did not sign for Leicester. "I knew they were interested," he said. "I liked the team, the place and the concept they had but it just didn't happen because of my obligations with my foundation and with Red Bull. "Now I just want to train with a team and stay fit."

"I knew they were interested, I liked the team, the place and the concept they had but it just didn't happen because i was being a complete dimwit asking for too much money"
somebum Posted 24 November 2009 Posted 24 November 2009 He was horribly overweight the last time I saw him play anyway. Class act in his day but we dont want his sort. Look what happened with Dennis Wise.
StanSP Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Back in the Football League! Former Holland midfielder Edgar Davids has become the joint head-coach of League Two Barnet and, according to the 37-year-old himself, will also play for the club. Davids, who retired from football two years ago following a short spell with Crystal Palace, will share the management role with Mark Robson, who has been head coach at Underhill since the start of the season. "Dutch legend, former Barcelona, Juventus, Ajax & Milan midfielder Edgar Davids joins Barnet & becomes joint Head Coach with Mark Robson," read a tweet on Thursday evening from the club's official Twitter feed. On his own Twitter site, Davids wrote: "Happy to say I will join my local football club Barnet fc as a player/coach." Barnet are currently bottom of League Two having failed to win any matches in any competition this season and thus it is not a surprise that they have made a chance to their management structure. Eyebrows will be raised, however, at the appointment of Davids, who has no previous coaching experience having, since retirement, only worked in a boardroom capacity at Ajax, the club where the Dutchman made his name and won the Champions League in 1995. Davids, who has also played for Internazionale and Tottenham, could be in the Underhill dugout for Saturday's visit of Plymouth. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/oct/11/edgar-davids-barnet?newsfeed=true
Jace Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Its amazing to see how the great and mighty fall so quick in football, it's no wonder it never worked with a team full of overpaid post peak players last season. Wonder how much Barnet are paying him
foxesfan1989 Posted 12 October 2012 Posted 12 October 2012 Surprised how he wouldn't rather just out and out retire. Hasn't been at his best for years now.

Work that one out. Reminds me of the time Gazza signed for Boston United.
