Doncaster Rovers away OFF

Annoyed with Rovers because they led everyone to believe there wasn't a problem with pitch.

Left Leicester at 9:45am after checking the Rovers website only minutes before. Nothing, not even a hint of pitch inspection. Got to Doncaster & after wandering around the shopping centre for a couple hours got back to the car to find the game called off just after 10:30am! Not happy!

Games get postponed - I can live with that, especially this time of year. But Rovers SHOULD have done more to keep fans upto date. I know local conditions can vary but in S****horpe not only is their game going ahead but they also managed to get a speedway meeting run yesterday.

Got all the way to Doncaster, only to be told at Doncaster station that the game was off, so turned round and came home.

Probably can't get to the re-arranged match now.

At least you got told at the station, we arrived at the stadium after a taxi fare only to be told the game was off and we had to walk all the way back to donny station.

Yeah, was the only "consolation" as such. Meant we could just go and get on the next train back.

Did many go to the ground?

I saw a couple of people but i think others heard before we did, there was some bloke having a massive rant at anyone there about it being a brand new stadium and not having undersoil heating, I agree to be honest.

2 postponed games in 2 weeks. At least we'll have games in hand now and can see what we need to do to overtake teams when the time comes.

I am annoyed rather than outraged. I didn't even leave my house but I can understand the complaints of some.

Talking to my mate last night, he asked what time we were leaving...I said I'll wait for a pitch inspection cos the temperatures are bad on the Met Office's site.

Woke up, checked their site and forums to see the vibe and nothing in the way. Then when founding out Blackpool was off, I had a look to see we had with five minutes notice a pitch inspection and then eventually game off. Reading the Donny forum, they are more enraged than us - their chairman was banging on about Premiership ambitions and how the town isn't supporting the club with gates. Today was going to be their biggest crowd of the season, good form and holiday date made plenty wanna come down. They were still selling tickets at 10.15am rather than letting the customer know it's subject to a pitch inspection.

I am lucky as Tuesday afternoons/evenings are no problem with me currently but it's going to get very congested with a streamline schedule already there because of the World Cup.

Undersoil heating, covers, hot air blowers or whatever....stadiums are no longer designed when considering the sun rise and if they are, it's normally to ensure the sun stays off the posh seats thus not obstructing the view. I eventually went to Burton v Notts County today, apparently the groundsman was there all night (doing what don't know, did he just drive up and down the pitch with a vehicle which had 7,000 portable heaters on the back) but I noticed that the shadow of the main stand virtually covered the pitch. If pitch gets no sunlight, how can it naturally thaw out?

I have been the Keepmoat once when it freshly opened in a 2-2 draw with Swansea - there's a lake nearby which doesn't help temperatures and the grounds mostly in shade, so naturally it doesn't thaw out well.

Can I take this opportunity to thank all of the Leicester ground staff for a truely amazing looking pitch on saturday.

It looked good, seemed to play very well and didn't cut up at all

Then, like most of his charges, he does a good line in simulation. One way he likes this well...

On Saturday it will be a squad selection for Round 3 so, come the 9th January, the majority of your regulars will have played only once in four weeks - a lengthy, unofficial winter hiatus. And that's a damn good thing, particularly in view of the unusually inclement weather that you've been experiencing.

As a consequence of your two postponements your stretcher cases and walking wounded lists have barely increased, some of your long term casualties may now be available for the rearranged fixtures and then there's the further bonus of some additional firepower coming through the window in January. So you face the 'unfortunate' prospect of a well rested, fully recuperated and enlarged squad for the remainder of the campaign.

Hard to believe that your postponements were not the result of collusion (perish the thought that my wily fellow countryman would engage in underhand tactics!). Looks like your high command are going for 'autoprom'. And I have a hunch that you'll do it. Wouldn't it be great to have a real life replay of '96 and see thousands of lachrymose Tooners watch their team implode in the final weeks of the season? Memo to Foxes - kick Nolan senseless at The Walkers (those who live by the studs die by the studs!).

By the sound of it the majority of posters do not like this well. A serious consequence of being a fan is developing a small mind and being blind to the big picture. No amount of promotions can compensate for a lost Awayday or a tank of unleaded.

Particularly those that want to remain in the Chumpship to experience the peverse pleasures of breakers yards and botulism.

Knob!

I was gutted when i found out the game was off as it was totally unexpected, luckily i only got 20 mins away from home then had to turn round. I feel sorry for those who were there or nearly there

To be fair, Radovan makes a good point. Most leagues across Europe have a winter break which gives the players some much needed rest. Lets hope this has similar effect.

It's also good we're on the back of two decent results, as if it was the opposite, the players would have to wait longer to try and get their next win.

You do know the sun rises in the East and sets in the West

There were 3 of us on the way to this in the car this morning.

Left home at 10:30am still trying to ring the ticket office on the hands free in the car.

Just got past J21 (bloody ticket office didn't pick up the phone for 50 minutes) & heard it was cancelled.

Stopped off at Leicester services & took a look on the net to see what other local games were on.

Decided to go & watch Stoke vs. Birmingham instead, seeing as we'd all made the effort to go out.

Got some tickets, drove to Stoke & enjoyed a fairly uneventful yet loud Premiership game.

Not a wasted day out by any means, but i'd rather have seen Leicester play.

Poor show from Doncaster, poor, poor show.

I really hate this attitude. I know people who work full time and manage to play back to back games of football on a Saturday and Sunday. I know it's nowhere near the same level but you would have thought that professional sportsmen should be able to cope with a 90 minute match on a Saturday and a 90 minute match on a Tuesday. The lads I know at amateur level would quite happily do that. At least they would get a rest during the week.

I'm not saying the players wanted to have the games off am I? I'm just looking at the positives from the recent occurrences. A rest will no doubt help. Exercise and recovery go hand in hand. I've not once stated the players would want the time off!

As lovely and irrelevant as your story was I think you've answered your own question. You can't compare the fitness levels at amateur level with the professionals.

All I'm saying is maybe this extra rest will help the squad in the long run.

English football without its hectic Christmas schedule would just feel wrong. It's as traditional as turkey, mince pies and overt consumerism. :santa:

I agree.

I've never said that we should have a winter break or that players don't want to play during the winter period.

I was just pointing out some positives from the games being being called off.

A rest will no doubt do us some good.

Not forgetting that for many years they played Christmas Day & Boxing Day with heavy leather boots and a heavy leather ball and none of the back medical and fitness support you get today. All on top of a big Xmas dinner, a few pints and a couple of fags for just a few quid a week.

Your opinion.

Which is why I qualified it.

Again, your opinion.

I understand what people are saying however, I don't buy into this 2 games called off will give us a break rest the players, e.t.c, all it does is add games in later in the season, possibly having to play both of these games within the same month? All it's going to do is tire the players later in the season, a potentially more important time in the season.
