demon_dog Posted 16 May 2010 Posted 16 May 2010 I was told many years ago that there are 2 things you never discuss in a pub, religion and politics. While this incident did not take place in public, one still has to consider the environment you are in. If you have views that in any way shape or form, that you know could upset your work colleagues, you simply keep you mouth shut. In this case Brown has been an utter stupid Twat. Should he stay or go that is the question. Personally I think his name is almost certainly top of the transfer list. What he said was wrong and out of order (despite his personal views), I see no way back for him. I like the huge majority of fans welcome any player the club care to sign no matter what race, religion or colour they may be.
Shrenchel Posted 16 May 2010 Posted 16 May 2010 Is it me or have The Mail taken the fvcking ragheads and asians quote out of their article?
C-man Posted 16 May 2010 Posted 16 May 2010 Is it me or have The Mail taken the fvcking ragheads and asians quote out of their article? Yeah I didn't see it last night and it's definitely not there now. Pretty libelous if they can't prove it.
Shrenchel Posted 16 May 2010 Posted 16 May 2010 I'm going off on a bit of a tangent, but the above post reminded me.... At the home game against Cardiff some utter **** several rows behind me shouted racist abuse directed at Chopra for the majority of the game. "**** off back to where you came from you ****ing Paki", being the general gist of it. Aside from a few embarrassed glances and sniggers, nobody near him said or did anything until right near the end of the match when one bloke - after a particularly disgusting tirade of abuse - told him to tone it down a bit. He replied "what, I'm only saying what everyone else is thinking". Like fook you are, you ignorant ****.. Thing is, it got me wondering because I'm sure (unless I dreamt it) that LCFC were once promoting a 'text complaints about racism' number, yet nowhere on the day could I find the number. It doesn't seem to be promoted around the stadium anywhere. Is it in the programme? Surely if they are as committed to kicking racism out of football as they claim to be, they should be giving this a higher profile? Made me wonder what, if anything, would happen if you could find the number and sent a text. Would it even be picked up and read by someone during the game? Yeah nobody including you did anything or said anything about it. Yeah can't just sit there and do fvck all for the whole game and then claim you were disgusted by it but it was someone else's responsibility to sort him out or inform a steward.
AoWW Posted 16 May 2010 Posted 16 May 2010 Yeah nobody including you did anything or said anything about it. Yeah can't just sit there and do fvck all for the whole game and then claim you were disgusted by it but it was someone else's responsibility to sort him out or inform a steward. I think you've kinda missed my point but, yes, I should have told a steward - fair point. Perhaps I'm a wimp but I had no intention of 'sorting him out' myself... no doubt you would have done. I would, however, have considered sending a text - a cowards way out, yes, possibly, but I'd still have been doing something. Yet, as I said, nowhere could I find the number. Which leads me to wonder how genuinely useful this so-called 'text to drive out racism' campaign really is, or whether it was introduced to tick a box on some 'LCFC proactively tackle racism' questionnaire.
Shrenchel Posted 16 May 2010 Posted 16 May 2010 At a couple of other clubs they dropped the grass up a fan number because people just texted bollocks to it all game. Might have happened here, I dunno
Matt Posted 16 May 2010 Posted 16 May 2010 Wasn't that hard to find - http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=62988&st=0&p=1496133&hl=fanzone&fromsearch=1entry1496133 http://www.lcfc.com/page/YourFeedback/0,,10274,00.html

And the link you've provided to OS takes you to an expired page. (or at least is did till you edited it). My point being, if they want to tackle such an incident surely it should be done on the day - not after the event when someone gets home and has time to spend searching for the number.
Matt Posted 16 May 2010 Posted 16 May 2010 I don't generally take my laptop to games with me. And the link you've provided to OS takes you to an expired page. I thought you were wanting to text/inform the club now so provided you with the information - even though it's a week on, better late than never. I just clicked the link I provided to the OS and it still works for me.

I think the problem is that racism is still rife in both society and football, maybe to a lesser extent than it has been but is certainly on the rise again some idiot behind me always thinks it's funny to change the lyrics to Never felt more like singing the blues, to shouting never felt more like gassing the jews and then laughing to himself and his mate. The problem with campaigns like kick racism out is that it just basically masks a problem that will always exist, no matter what the club, the government , the fans do some idiot will always think it funny, acceptable or even believe that nothing is wrong in airing racist views or ideology
Salieri Posted 16 May 2010 Posted 16 May 2010 This. Kermorgant's performances in the two semi-final legs take on a new light now. He was clearly and understandably unsettled by someone who so bitterly resents his presence (and that of many others) in the squad. I also watched DJ Campbell's performance at Forest last week and wondered why he couldn't have performed like that for us. The recent revelations give a clue why.. How many other BNP-backing halfwits lurk within the confines of the Way?
Anish Posted 16 May 2010 Posted 16 May 2010 I don't generally take my laptop to games with me. And the link you've provided to OS takes you to an expired page. (or at least is did till you edited it). My point being, if they want to tackle such an incident surely it should be done on the day - not after the event when someone gets home and has time to spend searching for the number. Shame on you and the others around you really. Would it have been that hard to walk up to the nearest steward to make them aware of this man's racism? Maybe that would've stopped him for at least that game. How should "they" (whoever "they" are) tackle racism on the day if they don't know about it because people like you aren't reporting it? Anyway, I liked Brown as a defender - he is the brutal, no-nonsense beast that bullies strikers into submission, and I still maintain that we missed him in the playoffs. However, there is no place for Brown at this club or in football if these allegations are true. His views go against everything that makes me proud of being a Leicester fan and being from Leicester. The club has been at the forefront of anti-racism campaigns for many years and they cannot employ somebody who holds these racist views. Aside from the team morale issue (which I will not repeat as it has been expressed eloquently by others), this is the perfect chance for the club to make a public denouncement of racism and any players that hold such views. Not only will the club earn the respect of its black/Asian players and staff, but it will send a positive message to the football community and to the people of Leicester. It may even encourage more Asian fans to attend matches - I've noticed that numbers have increased in the last few years compared to when I first went to matches in the mid 90s.
AoWW Posted 16 May 2010 Posted 16 May 2010 I think I might just post random gibberish in future - seeing as how people today seem to be incapable of reading what I've actually written.
Jon the Hat Posted 16 May 2010 Posted 16 May 2010 Fez hits the nail on the head as usual, including summing up my student years in Leicester. I really hope the club deals with this publicly - there is a duty to stand up for what is right and not just sweep it under the carpet.
Sylvie85 Posted 16 May 2010 Posted 16 May 2010 As far as i'm concerned Wayne Brown has to go. Yes everyone has a democratic right to vote for whomever they want to, i don't agree with his choice but it is his choice. However to have spoken the way he did to people he is supposed to work with is (in my opinion) unforgivable. I appreciate that players in squads aren't always going to be best of friends or share the same views as one another, but for me, if players fight and punch each other in training i believe they can build a bridge and get over it. Because it's a one off fight. But Wayne Brown has expressed his RASCIST beliefs, how on earth would a group of players with all sorts of cultural backgrounds forgive and play alongside him now. I grew up in Leicester and now live in Birmingham, i feel extremely lucky to have lived my life in multi-cultural cities. I have supported Wayne Brown for the whole of this season because i believe he is a good solid defender. But i'm afraid Wayne, you have let yourself, the club, your team mates and the supporters down. I certainly hope that Wayne Brown never plays for my one true love LCFC ever again......
James. Posted 16 May 2010 Posted 16 May 2010 It makes me laugh to witness the extremes between Ultra (Leicester's mayor no less) and his bizarre observations posted earlier and then Fez with by far the most insightful and intelligent post in this topic. Strange how things turn out. Now more details have emerged the club should act positively, decisively and quickly. Brown should never play for Leicester again.
moseeds Posted 16 May 2010 Posted 16 May 2010 I'm not from Leicester and I've only lived there for three years of my life but I'm extremely proud to be associated with the city through my support for the football club. I lived in a very racially diverse area in Highfields for two years when I was a student and loved every second of it. While I am sure there must occasionally be racial tension present, I never saw or heard of any when I lived there and can't recall hearing even a racist remark of any kind for the entire two years. I have heard the odd thing at City games over the years, which has probably been at a level no worse than elsewhere. I think, on the whole, we have more of a reputation for multiculturalism and equality than most clubs. The club have always been at the forefront of anti-racism campaigns and there appear to be growing numbers of local Asian supporters going to games from what I have seen, although this is just an observation and may not be the case at all in reality. To me, they are not just another political party. Regardless of what has been said and how, I hope the slightest public connection between our club and the racist far right will be abhorrent to most, if not all, City fans. Thankfully, that does seem to be the case among the majority of supporters who have commented on this news. Football clubs traditionally tend to keep these matters in-house if they can, but the nature of internet journalism these days, along with the increase in use of messageboards and social media, must be making it an increasingly improbable task. Now that this story is out in the open, the onus is on the club to take swift and decisive action in order to uphold its reputation. I don't normally like to base judgments on allegations reported in politically-motivated newspapers but I would say that, if the allegation in this case has any foundations, an apology should be out of the question. Wednesday night proved, yet again, that pride in the shirt and the club is more important to me as a supporter than results on the pitch. We will win and lose based on very small margins of error but an overwhelming sense of pride and respect is more important. I was proud of the efforts of our players on Wednesday night and proud to be associated with a set of players that were lauded across the country for the effort they put in. I could not, however, take pride from the club being associated with racists and have indeed been ashamed by fellow fans in the past when racist views have been aired. I could not respect anyone allowed to remain at the club who has been proven to have declared racist views when the club correctly seeks at all other times to distance itself from racism in any form. I understand that not everyone will feel as strongly about this as I, and some others, do. That is obviously fine. We all hold different views and we all support the club in different ways. Personally, my support is something I am very proud of and it upsets and angers me when negativity surrounding the club gets in the way of the enjoyment of the game and all that goes with it. In this particular case, I felt strongly enough to put something down in words. I respect all differing opinions about this. It may be an emotive subject to some, but what one person feels strongly about is completely irrelevant to the next person. When I first heard about this, along with the reaction to Yann Kermorgant after Wednesday, my initial hope was that a memorable and enjoyable season would not be ended on a low note. The way I feel at the moment, perhaps it is too late. I'd upvote this a million times if I could. I'm born and bred Highfields asian raghead boy. After the Cardiff first leg last sunday a group of us distraught fans went to Evington Road to have a post match kebab. The kebab shop had about 15-20 Leicester city asian raghead fans and even though we'd lost I couldn't help but feel happy. 20 years ago I was the only Leicester city fan in a sea of Man u, Liverpool and Arsenal. I agree Fez, the number of "non-white" fans are increasing albeit very slowly as more generations of immigrant children are born and raised here naturally they will feel that this city is their city and home too. If we'd made it into the premiership how many more Highfield's boys like me would start coming to home games? Wayne Brown doesn't understand this city. This isn't Barking or Dagenham. He's entitled to vote BNP and no one can deny him that right. However he is not entitled to spew racist rubbish that will only serve to antagonise his multi-racial teammates and supporters. I feel sick knowing my season ticket contributed this man's wages.

He cant even make a pass without the ball coming down with snow on it anyway.
FoxyPV Posted 16 May 2010 Posted 16 May 2010 Brown is a stupid twunt and will hopefuly never play for Leicester again. His remarks shows a complete lack of brainpower and understanding Leicester and its fans. Fez hit the nail on the head - brilliant post. He's definitely replaced Kermorgant as the new hate figure.
Koke Posted 16 May 2010 Posted 16 May 2010 Keromgant isn't really a hate figure. Just a victim of scapegoating, but he'll be forgiven in due time. Brown, however, is a person who seems to have absolute no intellectual capacity and a shaky grasp of formal rhetoric. What a devastatingly sad cunt.
MC Prussian Posted 16 May 2010 Posted 16 May 2010 It's odd that within the space of a few days, two individuals/footballers can draw so much attention to them. Has it actually been officially confirmed that Brown outed himself as a BNP voter and "racially abused" some of his teammates for sure? From what I gather up to this point, no details have surfaced and it's all still just a guessing game. Not wanting to defend Wayne Brown, but this thread is gaining its very own momentum and could potentially backfire. Also, there's always two parties to a argument, so I wonder what the "abused" party has done to have "it" escalate that far.
lcfc278 Posted 16 May 2010 Posted 16 May 2010 ive heard that he didnt vote bnp but joked that he did to vaughan and he went off on one, then dyer and powell joined in and everyone was arguin. brown said he was jokin and got aggressive to vaughan. good source as well. jokes i think brown has to go if thats true

At best the club will say that an internal dispute took place without giving any details. In situations like this when the national press have got involved it's likely to be more than speculation and not just a "guessing game". There have been lots of "Leicester sources" who have spoken to the press and it was reported on here before it got out, so there's definitely something to it. I could just as well say that Levi Porter's done nothing wrong at the club, since there has been no official confirmation about his behaviour. However, even though we (well I) don't know the full details, I know something must've happened for Pearson to freeze him out. The same applies in this case when Brown was omitted from the playoffs.

Sorry for being not clear enough. I don't and can't expect the club to release a statement that reads "Wayne Brown likes BNP" (or anything in that style). The rumours on here are spreading and spreading endlessly...

His team mates would of alienated him long before the club did, it had nothing to do with attitude, caught with pants down or Pearson liking him.
