It's all about knowing what to ask, CF.

Sounds like a very open invitation after reading that with no strings attached or judgement passed........  Perhaps ask any muslims friends or colleagues you have to see what they say as well?

Bit of a long shot but has anyone taken out travel insurance specifically for pre-existing medical conditions?

We're off to Orlando again in August and I'm shitting myself a bit in case I get ill again out when we're out there.

I had surgery in December and I'm told there's only a 10% chance of it re-occurring but if I'm hospitalized in the US then it will cost a fortune.

I've been quoted £600 by Virgin Money Travel Insurance (we booked the holiday through Virgin) which seems a lot, so just wondered if anyone has used a different travel insurance company?

Thanking you...

Can't help you massively Izzy but both my parents have to take out insurance for pre-existing medical conditions - Mum for cancer and Dad for similar to you I believe. I know they've basically written off going outside of Europe because the insurance is so expensive so I'm not sure what it will be like in USA, but definitely do a lot of comparisons as it varies so much more than standard. I know they've used Staysure and InsuranceWith in the past which are more specialist for those with pre-existing I think and when I was looking to book them a short break, I checked out https://medicaltravelcompared.co.uk/ as its a comparison for people with pre-existing.

I always use price comparison sites, Izzy.

It's important that you get cover for pre-existing medical conditions, but they ask questions about those. I checked on a couple (Go Compare and Compare the Meerkat, iirc) for my mother-in-law, who has a shed load, and she got some very reasonable quotes.

Try these: https://medicaltravelcompared.co.uk/medical-conditions/pre-existing-condition-travel-insurance.aspx

Awesome - thanks chaps. You're a pair of diamonds

P.S. I just used that comparison website and was quoted £150 less than Virgin. Just got to decide if to fork out £450 or risk it for a biscuit

Try other price comparison sites, Izzy - they all have contracts with different insurance companies.

Yeah I know what you mean mate. But I can’t really afford the holiday anyway and then there’s theme parks and all the other stuff on top :(

In for a penny in for a pound though I guess!

I've only just seen the PS, bro.

Please, don't even think about risking it - you are talking about gambling £450 against financial ruin for you and your family.

Florida isn't the only game in town, mate; get the kids to list what they want from a holiday, and take it from there.

I know, you’re right (again) £450 vs potentially tens of thousands in medical bills out there is a no brainier I guess.

I’ve already booked the flights and hotel but we’re going to have to do Orlando ‘on the cheap’ this time if that’s possible!

Already told the kids no Disney this year but there’s loads of other stuff to do apart from theme parks that don’t cost a fortune.

I’ll be happy just to sit by the pool for 2 weeks tbh :)

Not really, mate.

Everything anyone needs or wants to know is on the internet - you just have to ask the right questions.

Dozens and dozens of tiny spiders and ants on the back of my car and on the roof primarily, a few down the sides. Help? More or less never had food in the car let alone eaten in it. Hosed some off on Monday night, they returned on Wednesday morning, hosed down a few more hidden kind of areas Wednesday night, returned Thursday when at work. So in my mind they are living on my car somewhere? I haven't see any inside thankfully. Could it be the dodgy weather? I'm more or less always parked by a bush at home albeit nothing really is left touching the car. I guess at work I might be reversed too far back and making contact with a hedge.

I walk my dog every morning and every evening/afternoon, on days when the weather is good you see lots of other dog walkers out with their dogs, on grim days just a few.

Are these people not walking their dogs when it rains or is there some magical sheltered walk I don’t know of?

Which UK newspaper chains are the most reliable in terms of news not being biased etc?

There aren't any. If you know which way they lean and use your common sense you can filter out the bullshit.
