Dylan Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 Brilliant performance, why can't we play like that in the League. Wellens was MOTM; absolutely fantastic. Was great in the middle of the pitch. Brilliant. Sol Bamba was solid too; if he can do that to Tevez he should have no problem in the Championship. Also a massive threat from set-pieces; always looked threatening- one good goal and came close by having it cleared on the line. Everyone played brilliant- and a well deserved draw. Thought Hobbs should've scored his header from the corner- looked clearcut. Defending from the two goals were poor- but we still got the replay
Jackirius Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 http://forums.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=203571 Some nice comments there from the Man City fans.
Wycombe Fox Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 Well I'm just back from the pub and I feel so proud. As you can imagine, Leicester City v Manchester City isn't really top of people's footballing priorities on the Isle of Wight so any support from either side was likely to be sparse. I took my 13 year-old son, a Leicester fan for 8 years, with me. There was us two and one Man City fan. I had the advantage though as there were about 10 of my mates from beach soccer in the pub who all decided to support us. A great atmosphere and a decent amount of singing alalala Bamba. Loved it - can't wait for the replay.
Bugg Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 How much did Jo cost Man City? Whatever it was it was too much.
MikeyT Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 Man City player ratings. The even have Vassell there. haha http://www.mancityfans.net/mcfnet/viewtopic.php?f=119&t=36689
Webbo Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 Very proud. It felt like we were one of the big boys again tonight.
Wymsey Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 That Man city pitch invader nearly got away with it
davieG Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 What an excellent game of footy, really really enjoyed every minute of it, good quality from both sides, no histrionics decent atmosphere and out of my seat lots of times. Even the the 5 Manc lads sat along side me pretending to be LCFC fans gave me a few laughs at their attempts to disguise their allegiance. Well done all the players and the back room team for serving it up.
Haydos Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 http://forums.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=203571 Was on their forum earlier, most seemed to think they were awful and we deserved it They'd have darius back for Jo as well
MikeyT Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 http://forums.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=203571 Some nice comments there from the Man City fans. Fair play to the Man City fans, some nice and honest comments from them.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 Great game, possibly the best this season I think in terms of both teams being good and going for the win. Our corners were superb, hope thats not it for the year now! Bamba is a player who really attacks the ball he was unlucky not to have at least one more goal. A draw was a fair result, justr wish we could have nicked it as a tie at Notts C would have been great just typical we get a god cup draw and then potentially lose in the round before!
bluebeau Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 Brilliant game & unlucky not to win. We matched or beat MC in every department. Was Tevez actually on the field? MOM Ritchie Wellens awsome 10/10 and all the others 9/10. Samba looks to be a geat find by Sven & Co. Curtis Davies........who?
MC Prussian Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 On a sidenote, can someone explain to me why Sol Bamba is driving a SUV with German license plates? Also, funny to see Bruno Berner showing up with a Zurich number. Oh - home, sweet home...
Salieri Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 Very, very proud of the lads tonight, man for man, they were excellent. Now let's take that sort of performance into the league.
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 Superb Match. Both teams could've won it. Bamba had a class debut. Wellens and Berner were also outstanding, but well done to all the lads. Bamba had about 3 off the line, King 1 and then Kingy's failed chip was a good chance and also Abe's effort. However Adam Johnson sliding in was a great chance for them and also that chance in the 2nd half where Weale made a cracking save from about 2 yards. Cracking atmosphere. Bar 24th minute and the goal City fans were poor. That guy that ran on the pitch too haha. PRAY the replay is a week on wednesday, on my 18th, big day out that will be!
Thracian Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 Have to wonder if that was the fastest anyone's ever scored for us on his debut. La Bamba looks born to be a cult hero here and we haven't had too many of those lately. It wasn't just his goal either. He had three headers from corners cleared off the line - one hitting their defender in the face - and was forever popping up with vital blocks and clearances. But was a thrilling football match for us to have beamed around the world. Bamba had such an impact but Abe gave a genuine Pemiership performance and must have lungs like a pair of giant bellows. He never stopped running, challenging, closing down and often at pace. If the bloke was in advertising his face could flog a billion batteries. Wellens was another to get deservedly mentioned but I thought the running of Dyer and Vassell kept the visiting defenders under enough pressure to make them error prone. Kingy cropped up with another important goal - albeit a tap in from an almost mickey-taking move in response to the visiting fans cheering every pass. It was the perfect response and King might also have scored to end another excellent move but his attempt to coolly chip the goalkeeper ended in anti-climax with poor execution. But unlike others I don't think he was out of it at all. He was always making contributions and looking for an opening - it's just that his passing was quite at its best and he wasn't the only one to make mistakes on what looked a greasy pitch that was well cut up in places and made it look as if half our team needed more suitable studs. Berner did well to stick in there after Milner caused him so many problems in the first half. I was delighted to see how varied and effective our corners were - credit to the coaches and the players onm that one today - although our response to the short-corner which cost us their equaliser was juvenile and needs addressing straight away. Otherwise my only disappointment was how instantly we fell back into defensive mode after hustling them grab our early goal. Quite why we didn't keep hustling them I don't know but we simply changed, conceded the ground and invited pressure. The moment they equalised we were back to playing football again! In the end though we needed to show real character to get back and, while Manchester had three or four glorious chances to score more I thought we more than matched them for goalscoring opportunities through Bamba, King and even Abe having two speculative shots, one of which brought an excellent save. Altogether I was proud to be there and to be witness to such an exhilerating game with so many pluses including the contribution of the fans.
demon_dog Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 Where have all the Sven doesn't know what he's doing or Sven out fans gone? After a fantastic game like this and the arrival of Samba Bamba surely now they must see that he does know what he's doing and that he has an eye for talented players. Well done I say to not only all the players, but also the management and coaching team for getting the lads ready for this game. On a side note; Is it fate, are we destined to keep our cup run going since Sven is not only a former manager of Man City but also Notts County.
Leicester_Loyal Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 Does anyone else think that Gallagher actually played well and defended/tracked back well today? Best I've seen him do it all season.
buzzy Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 out of the 7 games i have been to this season that as to be the best performance i have seen even though i have not seen use lose all season.lets hope we can carry that into the league and move us up the table
Suffolk_fox Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 Just got to Mum & Dad's in Stamford - and will be heading back home to Ipswich in a bit (I reckon it will be very quiet there!!) I thought it was a fooking awesome game! Wellens and Sol Bamba were amazing. My gf was listening to the match online and texted me to say that Sol Bamba sounded like one hell of a player, and I have to agree. I think that Gallagher had a better second half than he did in the first 45 - he challenged more for the ball, Sven obviously had a word at half time. I was a bit worried about Waghorn when he came on, it took him a while to get a decent touch, but I think some more match time will do him well. Oh and what a bizarre substitution mix up! Originally I thought that Sven wanted to put off the substitution off until Gally had taken the corner! I think that everyone had a really good game, and if we can reproduce this form, then the Championship should be very worried. I don't get to many games these days but what a cracker to go to!!
STUHILL Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 GREAT GAME!!! I thought everyone played amazing. Very difficult to pick out names as everyone played out of their skin. What a debut for Bamba though. What a goal threat! Can't wait to see more of him. If I'm pushed though, MOM for me..... Richie Wellens!! What a game he had. A complete midfielder, can do it all! The two goals we conceded were still a little too easy for my liking but don't want to take anything away from today as we were awesome and the better side! Atmosphere to day was 1st class too. Bring on Preston!!!!!
brookfox Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 Can't add anything, the most enjoyable City game I've been to in ages. Saw an amusing Tunchev incident on the way there though. Tunch pulls up in a silver Merc to the stretch of road leading up to the ground (near the old Liberty building) and is stopped by the blockade. Wind his window down to the security guard, gets his ID out and is turned away. Turned left towards the old stadium and probably found a boozer!
Damocles Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 Your lads did you fans proud today. It was probably one of the toughest games of our season so far in all competitions, and the draw was a fair result. Great respect to you guys for not booing/singing through our Neil Young tribute, it was an important thing for us, and you guys played along perfectly. Thank you for that. Looking forward to seeing you guys at the CoM.
Aeropars Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 Time for a more real assessment from me. I apreciate we had a great result but this performance wasnt without unforced faults. Magical start. Quite lucky at this point in the game. Noone had a chance to stamp an authority on the game before this point. But the set peice was very well executed. I wonder why set plays have suddenly come to fruition?! I posted on here saying that we had lit the fise paper when we scored and that Man City would bombard us. I was kind of right and they were deserved of their lead come half time. MY summary of the half was that we were giving them too much respect and was far too nervy on the ball looking for a quick hoof at any time to clear the ball rather than looking to attack. On the occasions we did attack we were not troublesome with shots on goal however we seemed to secure lots of corners. Bamba was a menace at these and all over had a great game. MY concern was that he was at fault for the first goal. HE should have cleared without hesitation. Second half we were a different team. The Man City formation chance played into our hands and we dominated for large periods. We absolutly did not make Man City look ordinary. At all times they looked quality and any forward movement could have ended with a goal. Their decisive passes sliced our defence open in wasy i could only ream that we could acheive and the had by far the clear cut chances of the half. Saying that we matched them and hounded the hell out of them and were very unlucky not to win given the amount of chances we had. They may have had the most clear cut chances however we had some gleaming chances ourselves and given the quantity we could have had 5 and they could have had 4. In conclusion, a quality game and i feel slightly disapointed at the goals we conceeded. Overall very happy and this could spur us on to great things this season. Replay... cant see a win but very proud.
