Fair enough rooney's had a shocker since the world cup but some of you have short memories. Last season in the premiership alone he scored 26 goals in 32 games. Johnson's also a top player but sadly like many footballers his brains are firmly in his boots and his gonads

I thought it was a 'banter response' to us singing "Premier league, you're having a laugh" earlier in the game.

Hence him pointing at the Premier League badge, and laughing, in our direction...

32 goals for a rampant Utd during the early (easy) part of the season, a couple of goals for England against third rate opposition, there is nothing wrong with my memory.

Regularly goes missing in important games both for England and Utd, gets picked because he just might do something special, hasn't happened in an important game in a very long time.

In his defence it is not all his fault. the commercial pressures on him are immense and he has to play whether fit or not, in form or not simply because there is so much invested in him and he has to perform.

These days it does not much matter if he plays well or not, like all 'celebrities' he just has to turn up.....

Christ this thread is shameful.

1.) So what if Johnson pointed to the prem badge, through the fees, looked a bit smug in front of us fans, we as fans need to get a thicker skin. I know that if I had got a little stick from fans previously and had just scored I'd want to run up and shout "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh in all of there faces" and why not - because a few petulent teenagers can give banter but can't take it back?

2.) I couldn't be bothered to read more than the first and back pages but I see someone has posed an opinion that Johnson is in some way better than Rooney - I don't have an issue with that at all, thats an opinion, but its the people that are jumping on the Rooney is crap bandwagon when quite frankly less than a year ago you had to admit he was abosultely superb.

He may be out of form, but his record at United is still played 297 scored 134 and he has 67 England caps with 26 goals - that is pretty darn good in anyones books. Yes, he has personal issues that could detract from him as a footballer and so he's not setting the world alight at the moment but class is pernament and it won't be long until he'll show that to each and everyone of us again - like it or not.

Can't believe some fans, give it plenty but can't take even the smallest taunt from a player, poor lambs.

About Rooney,

Not suggesting he is crap, though his current run of poor form is approaching 12 months, more that he is overated and that he consistently fails to perform in big games.

As a 'regular' player for United over the years he has been pretty good, the stats show that, it is just the suggestion that he has been anywhere near world class in recent years that is totally laughable.

His games against Leicester haven't been his best admittedly but you must be watching a different player to me in general. You said you only realised last night how average he was, well you've obviously not seen the majority of his previous games for Man City and England, or you are just changing your opinion after one game.

There's a slight difference to watching a game on the telly and at the ground. You watch a game at the ground, your eyes can follow a player. Whereas this is impossible watching it on the telly. I've watched him twice live and found him to be very average against 'lesser' players. He's very himself in the way he plays and have yet to witness him have a good performance against top opposition. My opinion is backed up by posts upon posts on Man City forums.

That is a judgement based on his recent England form more than anything else. And it was less than 12 months ago that he was named the PFA player of the year. This year, you can easily argue he's not been as good but 34 goals in 44 games in the season before that tells you he must have been about in at least a handful of 'big games'. He has clearly developed as a player at Utd season on season and is only 25 so hold you definative judgement until he's retired in 10 years time.

Adam Johnson is just one of their fringe players and not really that good tbh - youd think that the wages he is on he could take a bit of stick himself? Obviously not - fooking simple tosser!!!

Fans taunt each other and he is no different. He did it to get a reaction, people got fooked off about it and he laughed.

I abused him at the time which is standard really but I'm not going to get annoyed about it or moan.

If I did it what he did whilst playing for leicester and got that reaction I know I'd find it fvcking hilarious.

Scoring for your team and pissing off a load of people who've been abusing you in the process? BRILLIANT.

I might be a bit of cvnt, but jesus some of you need to lighten up. I suspect most of you would do the same thing, and are probably just jealous if anything.

its laughable how Tevez and Johnson can do all this to a team that's a division below them, ye ok maybe in the Madchester derby sure, but to be honest the look like pricks doing it, and obviously money has done something to there head

If i were Johnson/Tevez, and scored against a team a division below us, i'd celebrate with me players, (like Milner in the 1st game), even if i was getting stick, if i scored in a local derby i'd just run past there fans and look at everyone of them while im jogging (thats if i was getting stick!)

seems pointless to be doing these celebrations to teams that are below you and to be fair not as "world-classed".

Good post. Thats exactly what I mean. Are they proving they're world class by scoring and beating a team in the divison below made up of a fraction of their first 11? NO!

Ashley ward was a truly world class striker, as was ronny rozenthal. De vries was probably our last truly world class striker, he was like messi and ronaldo combined. To be fair Andrew Johnson at fulham has a world class haircut and that makes up for the fact that he couldn't hit a donkeys arse with a banjo

why are people so upset?

did we not give it to Man City?

'glory glory man utd' just for starters and other chants aswell

But then as soon as someone tries some banter our way we act like little cry babies and complain.

Get a grip, people....

Football fans that dish out abuse and can't take it are ridic. Christ. It's like the Arsenal fans that complained about Adebeyor celebrating in front of them.

Think you're missing the point and this topic has been blown out of all proportion despite the fact that I started it!

PLayers cn do as they want, as said before we'd love it if one of our lot done something to their fans.

My point was, though I didn't make it clear at the time; surely beating us 4-2- just (i might add) and us taking them to a replay doesn't make them world class. Out of 180 mins they perhaps looked world class for 20 mins.

If people were singing "premier league you're having a laugh" and he scores then I think it's quite a good response.

If he did it for no reason then he's an arrogant dick.

Finally he's not as good as Rooney.

Simple.

As I said before, I know I personally am not upset. More embarrassed for the boy than anything else. Good banter is good banter but "oh look I'm Premiership", that's just weak.

I mean if we were some Leeds trying to tell the world how big a club we are? Alright. And if we were being slammed eight nil in the first game? Alright.

But he feels the need to remind our fans that he's Premiership when he's barely managing to beat some mid table Championship, unfashionable midlands side for the second of asking?

lol that's not being some clever WUM. That's just being a cringeworthy punk. Tevez putting his finger to his lips inf ront of the Kop in the first leg? Fair enough, banter. This? Poor.

Rooney's only reall assett these days is his goalscoring, and he's been shit at that for a year. Johnson is not a striker, therefore you cannot really compare their goalscoring antics.

At Euro 2004, people were talking about him as the closest thing we've had to Maradona. Then he broke his foot and has never been the same player.

He scores goals but he's not very good at beating anyone for pace or skill, unlike Johnson. If you can't do that then you're not a World Class striker, as some people make out he is. Likewise, if you fail to perform at big tournaments, you are not World Class.

Don't give me this trophies crap either, Johnson is younger than Rooney and has played in crap sides like Middlebrough before coming to Man City, where he has shown to be one of their best players whilst being inexplicably left on the bench. In a few seasons, he will have some trophies under his belt. Football is a team game and if you think Rooney's won anything single hadnedly then you're pretty deluded.

I think you've just got it in for Johnson because of what he said

No, Wayne Rooney is a better all round player than Adam Johnson. I never said Rooney was world class just pointed out his positives, which is in much larger quantity that Johnsons, making him a better all round player. You're telling me I can't bring goals into it, if Johnsons a better all round player, he'd be scoring as well as assisting ala Ronaldo at United.

I've not even seen the interview, I didn't see him point to his badge, and as fans we give out and have to take it so frankly, I couldn't give a shit what he says in a interview or how he wants to give it back to the fans.
