Howard9 Posted 3 February 2011 Posted 3 February 2011 According to stringer....."Sven: #lcfc youth product Jeff Schlupp to be given a chance in the 1st team (although he has an ankle knock at the mo) winger/striker. Rapid" Good or not ? never seen him play to be honest
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 3 February 2011 Posted 3 February 2011 Wouldn't be able to comment on him myself, it's always great to see our youth products be given a chance, though. Clearly Sven sees something he likes.

samjohnson Posted 3 February 2011 Posted 3 February 2011 I hope to see him in the squad some time in the future. Ive seen him play in the reserves. He's also got the best last name in the history of ever
Edmund Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 Sven's got a good record of bringing the quality through. It's always good to see one of our own make it, especially as it means Rudkins and Beagleholes work has not gone to waste.
alex walker Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 best player in the reserves or under 18s wherever he plays why not give him a chance
Narborough_fox Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 He's also got the best last name in the history of ever Nah that award goes to Stefan Kuntz!
Bryn Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 Delighted, the sounds about him are good and it's great to have homegrown talent in the first team.
Kitchandro Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 Jeff Schlupp. One bog-standard name, one great name. A bit like Sergio Hellings. I hope they don't have much more in common.
Fox92 Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 Its always good, and nice, to see youth products come through the youth system. And then who knows, he might be a fantastic player.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 Hope he gtes a chance would be nice to see another young player break through. Hopefully all the idiot callers on RL actually pronounce his name right
OmnipresentSam Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 Jeff Schlupp. One bog-standard name, one great name. A bit like Sergio Hellings. I hope they don't have much more in common. I think that's what makes it so special! I hope this kid is quality, always nice to see good players coming out your youth set up
richardsfoxes Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 Dont know much about him, hopefully he's good. The old boy who sits next to me, always says alot about this kid, aparently is pushed off the ball alot though.
The Doctor Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 Nah that award goes to Stefan Kuntz! i match that and raise: edit: Damn it - Matthias ****z was the picture i posted.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 Bring them through - the more home grown talent coming through the better (apart from Mattock - boo hiss)
Fox1651 Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 Bring them through - the more home grown talent coming through the better (apart from Mattock - boo hiss) yep agreed, bringing home grown talent through is essential for any club, and i think most local fans can identify more with local lads being brought through the ranks
nickelbyfox Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 So is Schlupp better than Jorrin John, as they both seem to be the catalysts in the youth team, from what you read? Good to see Sven looking at the youngsters too
Kingylcfc Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 seems like sven likes our academy, several players interesting him atm...Schlupp, John, Parkes, Bolger...
Jimmy Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 must be a better option then Moussa or Oakley in the winger role seeing as they are the 1s that seem to get games there atm
danny. Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 He's good on FIFA 11, I play him as a winger in a 4-3-3, very fast!
Finnegan Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 He's good on FIFA 11 Aaaaaah, now it makes sense. That's why umpteen people who had never heard of him or seen him play are crawling up his backside.
Thracian Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 Re Schlupp, John, Parkes, Bolger... At least Sven seems to be showing some interest in the Academy after a period when they might as well not have existed as far as the first team was concerned.. But let's see if he's as good as his word - which I've actually no reason to doubt. Jeff Schlupp for me is undoubtedly our best prospect. He's quick, strong, direct, scores goals and affects games. He seems to have good personal discipline and the strength to survive the demands of professional football. There's no question in my mind that he can make it. Whether he does depends on whether he gets time, opportunity and people continuing to believe in him through the inevitable hiccups. .And whether he shows himself willing to learn, improve and show patience in a positive way when faced with disappointment. It's not a matter of giving him "a chance" as in half-an-hour in a particular match. "A chance" is for him to be involved for a period of time whatever. Jorrin John's potential is harder to evaluate. He was first mentioned to me by a scout some three or four seasons ago. At that time he was a highly skilled slip of a winger who looked like he might get kicked into orbit if he ever came up against the Tiatto's of this world. He was touted to me as outstandingly skillful and Levi Porter reportedly described him as the best he'd seen on the wing at that age. I never quite saw it that way. He was an in-and-out footballer. Lots of mistakes and bad decisions, not as exceptionally skillful as I'd been led to expect but somehow, even on a bad day, he always seemed to make something happen. Over the next couple of seasons he moved to a new school, grew a bit, made fewer mistakes, more better choices and had more effect. He started to remind me just a little of Alan Hinton in that his main focus seemed to be delivering dangerous crosses into the box as quickly as possible. He also improved his defensive contribution by using his speed to close people down more effectively. Result? A highly efficient young footballer who almost always made a goal or two and just sometimes contributed one or two or his own. The question is, will that set him apart from others at Championship level and the answer is maybe. It depends if he can be just as accurate under much greater pressure. From what I've seen - which is not much this season - he's not as dangerous a marksman as Gradel was at the same stage. But he's a better crosser and passer of the ball than Gradel used to be. Mike Summerbee was a guy of similar languid style and slight build to John, and he did well enough for Manchester City during their glory days. He doesn't strike me as likely to be that good but we've had far worse people on our wings in recent seasons so the lad can certainly make it if he believes in himself and works like a trojan. Parkes was always a big favourite of the Academy staff and captain of the under 18s. He's a committed, no-nonsense defender - a guy who'd always be alongside you in the trenches putting his body in the way of danger and inspiring others with his unfailing determination. In other words he's the sort every fan seems to love. But does that make him a good defender? Not necessarily. I like the attributes I've mentioned but I hate to see anyone win possession only to lump the ball forward and lose it. And whenever I've watched him that's what Parkes does. He'll ignore the easy pass for some raking 30-yard fantasy ball into space that quickly becomes occupied by opposition shirts. And the higher up you go in football the more giving the ball away is made to hurt. Bolger is almost a traditional stopper centre-back, extremely dominant in the air, a useful threat in the opposition box but vulnerable on the floor and on the turn and nothing more than okay with his distribution. The bloke has a chance if only because of his sheer size and strength. After all Hobbs has made himself a career with no greater assets and less ability as a potential goalscorer. But he'll need to improve some in possession to convince me. .
