Fox 4 Life Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 I understand it was only one game so not easy to judge but what are your initial thoughts? I like his distribution, he fits in well with the way Sven likes to build from the back, one thing that always frustrated me about Weale was his constant long kicks that come straight back in to our half, with premiership quality full backs you need to take advantage of their pace and awareness, fits our game much better. Unfortunately that was about the only thing that impressed me, his kicking was poor and way too casual. The punching works sometimes but did he even catch the ball once? I also thought he looked lost at times and didn't commit when he needed too. Now alot of this will be down to playing with a new defence as it takes a while to get used to playing together but I fear that against a team that can actual threaten, who has a bit of quality, he would struggle..... thoughts?
casablancas Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Love the sweeper keeper, love the confidence with the ball and his distribution was pretty sound (apart from a few clangers). As with other sven signings i.e Mee, give him a chance. Sven knows his sh!t when it comes to transfers.
drc Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Sven said in the post match interview that weale have been great recently but Ricardo needs to have some games. He said he talked to Chris about it and he didn't think Chris was too pissed of. Svens point was he rather let Ricardo have a game when Weale have played good then to bench Weale after he had a bad game because it would be bad for his (Weale) confidence. If that is a smart thing or not I don't know but I can understand Svens thinking. I have no idea if Ricardo looks good at the training pitch or not but it didn't sound on the interview that Ricardo has replaced Weale for good.
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 I'm gutted for Weale & saw nothing in yesterday's performance to make me think he was special. Im sure Sven said he was only in for a keeper if he was of the highest quality i.e Given. Weale must be onhis way out now, I can't see him being here next season & I don't blame him. I thought Ricardo was casual with the ball at feet, but also that could read as assured, I wasn't impressed with his second half kicking off the deck, and his insistence on punching will lead us into trouble. Yes it was his first game, so i may be criticised for being overly critical but these are my initial thoughts.
stix Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 The manager said that Ricardo needed game time and that he felt it better to make the change whilst Weale is in abit of form and playing well than to wait until he hits a rough patch and then make the change. Agreed if we do end up getting promoted then its likely that Weale may move on, but not because he is pissed off at not getting game time, more than likely because Sven will of signed Tafferel or Buffon!!!
phillthefox Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 i was gutted when team was announced yesterday to find weale dropped after playing so well in last few games, especially his fantastic saves at sheff utd, i didnt have much confidence watching ricardo punching and running round his box.. i know ricardo needs games but weale like others say must be low now and like others will be looking to move,
Edmund Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Love the sweeper keeper, love the confidence with the ball and his distribution was pretty sound (apart from a few clangers). Summed up nicely in one sentence. As a Derby fan said, his passing was better than any one of their players Still think Weale didn't deserved to get dropped though.
ozleicester Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 He was confident and controlling, well positioned and did all he needed to. Weale has had some terrific games of late, but i still dont see him as a number 1. Id like to see ricardo actually getting tested before a definite decision, but i fail to understand how can anyone fault him after last night and the fact he has played 80 times internationally.
Jon the Hat Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Weale has been much improved since a) we were talking about signing another keeper and b) we signed one. Seems logical to conclude that he responds well to fighting for his place. No reason to doubt Sven in this is there?
LCFCmatt Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Why is he so obsessed with punching the friggin' ball?
FoxyPV Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 I didn't think Ricardo's distribution was particularly brilliant as there were numerous times when he kicked the ball straight to a Derby player around the halfway line.
Phube Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Why is he so obsessed with punching the friggin' ball? Because he's European... That's what they do!
Kingylcfc Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Ricardos footwork is amazing, he is very confident with the ball which you don't see very often with a goalkeeper. Really you cannot tell how good he is, because he hasn't really been troubled at all, and derby didn't provide anything that could have.
tackleberry Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Ricardo was rusty admittedly, feel for Weale though, however...... Ricardo could have scored 15 own goals yesterday and I wouldnt have cared after the way he stitched up Stringer, GENIUS, i was laughing so much i missed the Turn back onto the M1 from the A52!!!
Christoph Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Looks shakey when a long ball comes in the box, other than that seemed good enough. I'm sure Weale will have his turn somewhere

That was the best thing I've ever heard on RL... shame there were no cameras, would have loved to seen Stringer's face.
Maybes Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Was a shame for Weale to lose his place especially after his performance at Sheff Yoo. However I thought Ricardo did well, seems very confident on the ball. His kicking was good generally bar one in the second half.
Jimmy Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Weale isn't good enough, if a team shoots from 20 yards or more and its on target he NEVER saves it he also doesn't command his area enough. He's the same as Bruno now, decent back up but that's about it now
lcfcsnow Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 That was the best thing I've ever heard on RL... shame there were no cameras, would have loved to seen Stringer's face. What happened?
Trav Le Bleu Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 What happened? Ricardo pretended he didn't understand Stringer and replied in Portuguese for well over a minute... before switching to pretty good English.
zubi Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Why is he so obsessed with punching the friggin' ball? Oh god tell me about it! Made me so nervous towards the end when the sheep were attacking. He didn't have a single save to make so it's hard to judge, but the punching was poor also yesterday, luckily for him at one point Mee was there to head away the challenge when Ricardos failed punch went back into the area.
sdb Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 good footwork, we wouldn't have scored the 2nd with Weales' distribution, for example. However he looked shaky arially, and will cost us points this season, imo.
Kitchandro Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Come on be honest, Ricardo was crap last night. I don't know how anyone can say his distribution was good. He passed it 5 yards under no pressure well but sliced a number of clearances, one of which led to Mee and Bamba colliding and getting injured I believe. I don't know how anyone can say he instilled confidence in the back four. He refused (was unable?) to catch it, and his terrible punches nearly led to a goal in the second half when he was caught out of his goal and a Derby player headed wide. How does that give confidence to the defence? He had very little to do but everything he had to do he did poorly. I'm sure if Weale had put in that performance he would be getting far more stick today. It seems people are giving him the benefit of the doubt because of the win and because Sven signed him. I'm not going to write him off, just as I didn't write Mee off. But last night's performance was reminiscent of the ones I saw when he was playing for Portugal. And I'm not moaning, Ricardo was the ONLY negative.
MC Prussian Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 It's easy to slate a newcomer in a Leicester City shirt. But in his case, it's completely out of order. Ricardo's got a bag full of experience, has never played for an English team before, doesn't know the Championship (yet). I think, regardless of some of his odd clearances, he's been hired to help establish a solid back four that is hard to crack. He can be reassuring and gives the defenders in front of him a certain amount of confidence - mentally. If anything fails, they know they can always rely on a (former) Portuguese International. I think it's great we got him on board and he might turn out to be just the one missing link for the playoff push.
