Coventry Post Match Thread

It was the number of fans shouting for Weale that was embarassing today - not just a few, a couple of times it was round half the ground. Absolute shocker. How anybody can think it can possibly help is beyond me.

Am also starting to wonder if the team are lacking a plan b - the formation didn't seem to help Waggy or Dyer when they came on. With 3 or 4 of them on yellows, 442 for the last 30 and more direct running down the wings may just have seen one of them sent off earlier than actually happened today, who knows.

I guess we're now seeing why the Yak can't cut it in the Prem any more. He should have done a lot lot better with 4 chances today, and was ponderous at best for the rest of the game, yet seems to be protected from being replaced.

We seem to have lost the ability to keep a clean sheet at home, which could well cost us dear over the weeks to come, didn't matter v Millwall or Barnsley but we got out of jail against Bristol and couldn't quite repeat that today. Norwich won't be forgiving if we concede to them next up here.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if one of the playoff teams implode over the next couple of months - likely candidates dirty leeds, but the question is will it be us or Burnley who take advantage? Whatever happens i just hope Sven doesn't alienate any of our contracted players who should be in or around the squad any further i.e. leaving Berner out of the matchday squad. If we don't go up then we won't see any of the loanees for dust, and there'll be a huge hole in the squad which we're going to have to work hard to fill before next season. Pessimistic? Maybe but there's huge work needed on the squad whatever division we're in next year.

Right im just going to give up on reading this thread if this is what page 1 has to offer....

Just a couple of games ago they were awesome and full of confidence.... now they are a buch of merceneries... Its because they have played so well under Sven that we are even within a shout of the play offs!!!

I was thinking you must have amnesia. Bu If you remember Junior Lewis then i cant really find an excuse for you as there are so many inbetween him and todays players.

One of the worst things about not going to all the home games has got to be days like this when you get posts like the ones you quoted that make you wonder what went on!

I don't think we have anything to fear from Norwich.

An average, Leicester 09-10-lite of a side really.

We've beaten Swansea, Cardiff and Forest at home this season at times when we've been in poor form. We've got better players now.

QPR will be a different matter altogether. Again, not a brilliant side, but confidence must be a little fragile. A win today and I'd have backed us to win again on Sat.

At £30 a ticket, and with the current form and years of constant failure you are lucky we took any fans at all !! If you opened the bars in the away section you would have got a few more there, at that price people are fed up of getting marched around by the police, not allowed to drink and generally see a shitty game. It's not like you haven't brought small numbers to cov before, and at much cheaper prices.

was disappointed aswell today. but its coventry. it was always going to be a draw. :frusty:

saying that PVA's performance was the worst you have seen is very very harsh and you need to lighten up. i never thought that a top 2 finish was realistic, especially after watching swansea today who were very impressive. it's going to be very tight and diificult but the play offs are not out of reach by any means.

we should of won with the chances we had, but we could of easily lost.

i now fully understand why nobody turns up to the take that arena. awful football!

keep the faith

Frustrating today. We were trying to walk the ball into the goal every time. RVA was terrible today he left Bamba to cover him and the center back position. Vassel and Naughton though were quality today linked up and caused continuous threats down that wing. Ricardo was better today (he actually caught it )but still was to blame for the goal because he could have done alot better even though his defense didn't help him with the goal.Vassel shouldn't have been taken off. Dyer was a waste he had the chance at the end that was impossible to miss and he did and he had his square ball that was played into the first guy behind him. Waggy should have come on for Gally and Mee for RVA.

Evening all.

First of all a little perspective, we were not dreadful to day, just not very good. A fair number of decent performances individually but nothing came to gether in terms of a team performance.

Firstly I was very surprised by the team selection, Mee rested seemed like an unnecessary change, too many changes at the back is pretty worrying. I know we have not been exactly watertight, but with Bamba and Mee in partnership I thought we were getting somewhere.

We looked unsteady from the off, Bamba did not look comfortable on the left (surprise, surprise) and he and van Aanholt looked vulnerable, particularly with van Aanholt getting well forward. When Jutkiewiecz got behind a poorly positioned van Aanholt, still recovering from a forward run, his cross was miss hit by King and although Ricardo seemed to get something on it, from barely 6 yards out it was enough.

On the break Coventry looked dangerous, primarily because we were always left 2 on 2 at the back, risky! Naughton and van Aanholt were both well forward leaving Bruma and Bamba to look after King and (usually) Baker, with Jutkiewicz a threat out wide right, with only two men back and no discernable cover from midfield, Coventry always looked likely on the break.

The rest of the first half was mostly City, pressing forward almost continuously but we appeared anxious and lacking any composure in front of goal, as we have seen so many times this season the final ball was either not on the money or the strikers were just unable to get a in decisive strike. All that pressure created chances for us sure enough but left us vulnerable on the break, could easily have been 4-4, Naughton's goal, when it came was out of nothing, drove forward, cut into the box and showed a great finish, why can't our strikers do that?

Second half was, pretty much all City, we flagged a bit in the middle of the half, allowing Coventry back into it for a while, the substitutions helped get us back on top, to a degree anyway, but were hardly decisive. At each end of the half we were flying forward particularly along the flanks, van Aanholt played virtually as a left winger but his crosses and final ball were poor pretty much throughout. Although we continued to press we really did not look likely to score, the chances were created but were fleeting or fluffed.

Coventry did not get forward that often but when they did they posed a threat on the break, though the Bruma / Bamba pairing did look a little better as the game went on.

All in all it was a fairly shoddy performance, Naughton was the only player to gain any credit from the game, Vassell and Wellens made the effort, and the rest were, one way or the other, off the pace. As i said not awful but nowhere near good enough either.

This is worrying, that last three games were mid table form at best, needs some sorting out.

Just watched the highlights on football league show and I genuinelly cannot believe Dyer missed last minute. At the ground I assumed it was a good clearance but Dyer actually missed from a yard. Really should have won that.

I'm all for supporting players that play in a Leicester City shirt, and don't get me wrong, but for fucks sake, please get Weale back in goal. I have more confidence in him and Ricardo doesn't fill me with much hope.

Where the heck was Bamba when King scored Coventry's goal? And whom was he marking? The outer side of the left goal post?

And Bruma who consistently allowed King to turn up unmarked throughout the game.

We've been slightly sussed. A bit of good form always puts you under the spotlight, a lot of managers would have seen us at Derby where we were given a lot of time on the ball and made tactics built from that.

Today, we were dangerously gung ho to start with leaving 2 on 2 at the back. The midfield is looking tired and now with Wellens lagging, we have no ball carrier. Knock them about it, we begin to struggle. We've gotta stick the chances away we made in the first fifteen. We'll wait and see if firstly the players have the self-belief (not so in the past two games) or Sven will consider a change.

In an ideal world, we'd loan in an experience pro who can lead the younger lads but they're difficult to get hold of.

It just wasn't our day today. I don't think we were as bad a some people are making out. Could have scored 4 or 5 at least - I'm still trying to work out how Bamba and Dyer missed! I have every confidence that the Yak will make up for all his missed chances in the next match against QPR. They're due a beating anyway.

The 'WEALE WEALE' chants when Ricardo is in goal really have to stop. They are embarrassing and if they make me feel uncomfortable I can only imagine how it must make the players feel. Not just Ricardo either but the whole team. It completely undermines everybody's confidence. Do people actually expect that Sven is going to listen and switch keepers part way through the match? It makes Leicester fans look like dicks and I hate to think that it could be diminishing Sven's opinion of us and giving the rest of the players the impression that we could turn on them any second.

I can't be bothered to do a whole match report, and loads of other people have done that anyway, I just want to make a couple of points.

Firstly, I thought Marlon King was just very good today, it won't be often we come up against someone as good as him (yeah, he's a ****, etc etc). He took Bruma apart, but I'm not overly worried about that really. Won't happen often, if at all against anyone else. The defence seemed shambolic for the first 20, but individually I think they're all good players - likewise Mee, Berner, Hobbs - but the problem is constantly changing it. If I could be arsed I'd check through to see how many different combinations at centre back we've had, but it must be at least 10. I think the positional problems come from not knowing where each other are. I'd like him to pick Bamba + Mee/Bruma and stick with it now.

The Ricardo stuff is just bollocks, all you have to do is watch him for 10 minutes to realise why Sven wants him ahead of Weale. His distribution is very good, he recycles possession quickly and is far, far better than Weale at that. He flaps a bit and could dominate his area more, but he's not as bad as some of the ****** have been making out.

Finally, the reason we didn't win today was poor decision making in great positions, and ridiculous finishing. I really can't see that happening too often from now on in. Someone is going to get an absolute caning at some point. Everyone chill, we're 2 points off the playoffs with loads of games to go. Forest, QPR & Norwich are tough games, but that leaves 8 or 9 very winnable ones. We'll be fine.

Most sensible post on here. Agree with every word!

Great post, sums up a lot of my views.

Marlon King got owned by B and B all game. Just hopeless long balls pumped forward for him and he has a tiny bit of control so everyones jizzing it now.

We were poor in the final third today. End of.

Sven has been sussed out with his selections and tactics.

Here we go again, didn't we have all this after our minor stutter before Christmas? "New manager syndrome has worn off", "he's been sussed", "blah blah blah".

We lost one game away to a good Cardiff team, and drew at home to coventry, spurning enough chances to win about 10-1. Suddenly it's all doom and gloom again.
