NewquayFox Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 Will be at the Walkers for this game, first home game since last season having been to a few away games. Hopefully City are back on track after a blip with a great result today.....
Matt Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 Big game, They all are from now on. Lets focus on this before we even look at what other teams results we want, If we go quietly about our way, focusing on our own game, keep our feet on the ground we have a chance. Still a tough job on our hands though, It will be touch and go, could go either way, I can even see it going as far as the last game of the season.
acooling08 Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 These dicks completely destroyed our goal difference. A big win would be very pleasing.
Salieri Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 We owe them. Big time. This. And i've missed your avatar Newquay fox.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 Lets get a full house for it eh? As been said, take 1 game at a time.no use thinking of burnley at home, forest away etc yet. They could be pointless games-no pun intended, for us by then
NewquayFox Posted 12 March 2011 Author Posted 12 March 2011 Can`t keep your eyes off them eh Spiderpig....
Salieri Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 Can`t keep your eyes off them eh Spiderpig.... Bit hypnotic, like.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 Another must win, but wont be easy as they have a very good starting 11.
CupidStunt Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 Can`t keep your eyes off them eh Spiderpig.... I think mines more memorising
Thracian Posted 13 March 2011 Posted 13 March 2011 This will be a big test of Sven's comment about concentrating on what we're going to do. We seemed to have a positive team out at Scunthorpe that played to our strengths although I'm still alarmed by the lack of goals from our main strikers. Portsmouth represent much more the sort of test we faced against teams we've lost to like Norwich and Cardiff and I'd like to think we'll have learned something from those. Like the idea of putting our opponents under pressure and giving our best for two full halves instead of just part of one. And trying to score goals- one after another - instead of playing cat and mouse football which allows all sorts of odubts and uncertainties to creep in. We don't have anything left to play with now anyway and should have been giving it 100% long ago instead of playing with so much fear, reserve and compromise. Of course there's a chance of blowing it now we've left ourselves no room for manoeuvre but all the more reason to believe our top team is the best in the division and to go out and show it til all hope is gone. If Sven has any self doubts he should adopt the mentality of a terrorist in sorting out our tactics. No retreat and no mercy. Win every battle on the pitch, play fast football and make their sodding net tremble from the moment we catch sight of it. The fans can play a part. The whole scenario is far too friendly and like a family day out. It might be better if the south stand wasn't part-occupied by women with their 10-year-olds who hardly open their mouths except to complain about those who are trying to make some atmosphere. But I doubt it. Half the blokes don't sing either. But there aren't any signs it's likely to change. Wouldn't surprise me if they started selling special fans outfits next season in the form of monks robes and nuns habits to remind us of how we're expected to behave. Perhaps we'll even adopt a psalm as the club anthem before long, the atmosphere is becoming so bloody churchlike. Norwich was such an example. No, our footballers never threatened to stir us fans but there was no way the fans ever sounded like lifting the team either, apart from at the start and in very half-hearted mini-moments later when the songs had all the impact of one-line choral responses in a vast cathedral. Sven really needs to make sure his players get us going and that means energy, Mee-like commitment and people flooding forward and peppering the goal with shots instead of passing the buck to a bloke alongside. There's gotta be attitude. Even beloved Birch is like a friendly old aunt. But what we want is a steaming white-hot cauldron of intimidation and all the atmosphere the authorities try to drain away like they do the speed of motorists on a village street. Never have I known so much effort going into cooling what is supposed to be a passionate game - its' a wonder we've not got iced-water sprinklers for the fans on the inside of the stadium roof. Even the 15-minute half-time break serves to help negate any emotion. By the time there's a restart you've almost forgotten what you came for. And all the stoppages for players falling down with fake injuries from innocuous tackles plus all the time-wasting subtitutions are all part of the agenda that amounts to what is effectively large scale and calculated "traffic calming" within the game. Football has and is being cynically de-activated and somehow the fans have got to bring it to life again, especially if we're going to stir the passions sufficiently to blaze a trail towards promotion from our current precarious situation. My wife's nephew "big" Alex has the right idea and will literally take over an entire pub with his pals. If everyone had his vocal impact at a game the place would be rocking. But we need thousands as vigorous and uncompromising as him yet, sadly, it's a forlorn hope. It's as if we've been neutered at home and just don't have the heart for the job even after a run of relative success at The Walkers. Well, if we lose Saturday I doubt they'll be another chance to save our season so the choice is stark. Either we make some noise and keep making it, or the day is likely to fall flat.

Well, if we lose Saturday I doubt they'll be another chance to save our season so the choice is stark. Either we make some noise and keep making it, or the day is likely to fall flat. Often I read posts by Thracian and disagree with most of it. This post however is superb. The Walkers is a place that I want to go to, but dont enjoy it at all as much as I should. The only time anyone where I sit opens there mouths is to slag off Gallagher. Never anything else. It really is depressing. I moved to the standing section for one game and have to say, the people there have a completely different idea of 'supporting' the team than I do. Again, not a positive word spoken about any of the players, and that was against Millwall! Anyway, once again I congratulate Thracian on a superb post!
StanSP Posted 13 March 2011 Posted 13 March 2011 First home game since October I think (was meant to go vs Leeds in December but had family commitments) so will be looking forward to this one, especially on the back of the Scunthorpe result which will boost confidence so much. So glad that we got a clean sheet too so the whole team, not just defence and goalkeeper, should be praised. Attack as a team, and defend as team, which I'm sure was the story on Saturday what with all 3 goals coming from defenders anyway! All I ask for is a quality performance and to get back to winnings ways at home after the Norwich display. Is that too much to ask for ?
Wymsey Posted 13 March 2011 Posted 13 March 2011 Hope Vitor and Bamba both play in CB positions together so they can suss out Nugent and Kitson.
Lester LXXIV Posted 13 March 2011 Posted 13 March 2011 First home game of the season but saw the 2 games in Pompey as I live there! I truly hope we gain revenge as I'm going with a Pompey season ticket holder who's a smug git!!
MattyFromLE Posted 13 March 2011 Posted 13 March 2011 First of a run in of cup finals. The lads need to play their hearts out for every match! I love going The Walkers at present, positive vibes mostly where i sit! I'd love to see Bamba and Vitor at the back, 4 goals each?
shailen Posted 14 March 2011 Posted 14 March 2011 We need to go into every game without any fear of conceding goals, we are not very good defensively as a team, but going forward we must be the best team in the division. Lets go for it against pompey! Play a high line, high tempo game where we close them down at every opp. allowing us to play attacking football. Tbh our team has no real defensively minded players...bamba looks to attack, so does vitor.

Fox1651 Posted 14 March 2011 Posted 14 March 2011 Play our best team, play well, score more goals than Pompey then . . . . . . Leicester will Win
Basingstoke Fox Posted 14 March 2011 Posted 14 March 2011 Well, if we lose Saturday I doubt they'll be another chance to save our season so the choice is stark. Either we make some noise and keep making it, or the day is likely to fall flat. The saddening thing is that we all know which is the more likely outcome. Nevertheless, I shall be attending. My first home game since Sheffield Wednesday in 2008. I can only hope this will be a much better day! Don't know where to sit. I'm thinking along the lines of K block if I can because the 'Kop' was usually dead whenever I went.
Ric Flair Posted 14 March 2011 Posted 14 March 2011 There's not a single game left this season where we need to go in to it defensively. In fact we cannot play defensively to save our lives, QPR were crap the other week and I think that clouded our opinions. We must play with at least 3 attacking players on the field as well as King. We've tried to play defensively against Cardiff, QPR and Norwich and lost all of them. We can afford possibly no more dropped points if we are to make the play-off's for certain. Sven needs to get the lads pumped up to play with no fear, promotion this season isn't the be all and end all but we should give it a right good go and play with freedom and confidence. Yakubu, King and Bamba are due another scoring spree.
CosbehFox Posted 14 March 2011 Posted 14 March 2011 Thrac's spot on, even more so against these horrid bunch. Always hated these since a kid after that playoff semi final and getting mugged off by them standing there like a lemon earlier this season wound me up rotten.
