Redski Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 yes he was...and we're replacing him with Matt Mills Exactly and I'd rate Davis higher than Mills. I wasn't trying to pick a fight but putting my point of view across
Bluefoxtim Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Yeah i realise that mate, just feels to me that we are starting to waste our time on one player, when there are plenty more strikers available that could get 20+ goals next season. Decent players will always attract a lot of attention and be the subject of intense negotiations.
Alexikokopops Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 And you replaced Naughton with Peltier? and Yak with Nuggent? Wasn't Curtain Davis on loan last year? I think our hope this season is not to be in the bottom three after 9/10 games. Fingers crossed.
Joe. Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 And you replaced Naughton with Peltier? and Yak with Nuggent? Wasn't Curtain Davis on loan last year? Yeah, and was largely disappointing. We only had him for a couple of months anyhow. We've also added Danns, St Ledger and a South African left-back, who will all improve the squad. There's also still a hell of a lot of time left in this transfer window to make things happen. What far? To say he's class. He's nowhere near.

Mr.Lowe Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Yeah i realise that mate, just feels to me that we are starting to waste our time on one player, when there are plenty more strikers available that could get 20+ goals next season. I agree with you about there being plenty of 20+ strickers out there but when you actually think about it, who is there?? I've been racking my brians over this... the likes of Jay Bothroyd would fit in our plans perfectly but the lure of the premiership is always there, even though he'll warm the bench alot. sorry dont wanna sound to negative.
artursteppe Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Any players we might want do not necessarily need to have played in England, or be English, so nobody really needs to rack their brains too much in their search for alternative strikers. Sven has contacts everywhere.
cc_star Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 You have made some good signings however I'm not sure your squad is any better than last year? and you clearly have some financial clout but money doesn't always buy success. IMO if Nicky doesn't sign for you this summer it'll be your loss not his. oh and give Big Chill a try... a good point which has been mentioned elsewhere Losing Naughton, Yakubu, Vitor, Mee, PVA, Kamara & Bruma could look a big loss But Bruma arguably had a negative impact & Kamara & PVA didn't really have a positive impact, leaving Naughton, Yakubu, Vitor & Mee We still might sign Mee, but in Mills & SSL have him more than covered. Peltier in for Naughton isn't an upgrade but I don't think we've lost anything either. Nugent probably won't score as many as the Yak, but he's a far better team player meaning other people will weigh in with a few Last season seemed to be a team of pretty good quality individuals, that often failed to mesh as a team. This season we're making permanent signings that have the benefit of growing together during pre-season which will probably them a better team, plus we've still got 7 weeks to go If the season started when Sven joined we finished 5 points off 2nd spot, these signings should easily make that up. We just need a Prem side to buy Scott Parker now

This season we're making permanent signings that have the benefit of growing together during pre-season which will probably them a better team, plus we've still got 7 weeks to go I'd definitely agree about permanent signings over loan ones; just look at Cardiff's capitulation end of last season. Most of their first team knew they wouldn't be there whether they were promoted or not.
Monkeh BCFC Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 I've just realised....the WHOLE back 5 is gonna be different.... gotta be careful of that midfield/strikers can be afforded time to gel and get an understanding, but the back 4/keeper could open you up to a few early defeats, I'm sure once they are settled they will be fantastic but I have never liked it when Bristol City have made to many changes to our back 4 you just end up leaking stupid goals
Ric Flair Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 A lot of people not associated with Leicester could look at what's going on here and not be overly impressed given the loan players we had last season, but ultmately a lot of them didn't fulfill their potential. Our defence conceded a horrendous amount of goals and it cannot all be blamed on our suspect goalie. Naughton was pretty much faultless but Bruma, Vitor, Davies, Mee and Van Aanholt all had very erratic performances for us alongside the permanent members of our squad. I was worried Sven would be clouded in his adulation over these rising stars from big clubs and try and sign them again but he seems to have learnt his lesson and is getting in proven Championship quality players who have the ability to improve and WANT to be here. I think we'll be disgustingly hard to beat next season.
Father Ted Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Personally I would forget about Maynard and go for the Yak. £3mil cheaper, knows the team already and we know he can bag goals. Also isn't injury prone.

The Special One always says to build from the back! Don't think Sven is finished yet either. I think we should all just take a minute and think..... We have rich owners, we have Sven and now we are signing top players for 5million plus........... WTF is going on!!!
Christoph Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Considering the back 4 will have a whole pre season to get to no each other against arguably better opponents than they will actually play in the league then it should give them some time to no each others hitches etc
Guest MattP Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 if we actually do have this sort of money the Yak and Naughton might actually be possible.
Darkon84 Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Personally I would forget about Maynard and go for the Yak. £3mil cheaper, knows the team already and we know he can bag goals. Also isn't injury prone. really? re-occurring achilles ring any bells?

Full pre-season with a tour to Sweden and a host of friendlies, should get us off to a good start and will only get stronger.
Adster Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Personally I would forget about Maynard and go for the Yak. £3mil cheaper, knows the team already and we know he can bag goals. Also isn't injury prone. He is on FIFA
Joe. Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Maynard being injury prone is a complete myth. One injury when he was about 18, and then another last season. Hardly a sicknote.

But Vitor played little due to injury, Mee could still be signed. So that leaves Yakubu who blew hot and cold and Naughton, who out of everyone is the only one I think we will really miss. Plus, we aren't done in the market yet. There will be a few loans still to come on top of the big name striker. We will start the season maybe not massively stronger as a starting 11. But hugely stronger as a squad IMO.
Redski Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Maynard being injury prone is a complete myth. One injury when he was about 18, and then another last season. Hardly a sicknote. Well said, he broke his leg playing for Crewe and done his knee in last summer on a dry ski slope.
dannythefox Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 If we've paid 5m for Mills then lets just pay 5m for Maynard!
scotty Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Maynard being injury prone is a complete myth. One injury when he was about 18, and then another last season. Guest Bilo Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Two medium term injuries in eight years doesn't make him Darren Anderton. One of them was a freak injury as well.
