Leicester move for Kirkland on free transfer

May 1 2011 by The People

LEICESTER CITY boss Sven Goran Eriksson could snap up goalkeeper Chris Kirkland from Wigan – for nothing.

Former England keeper Kirkland, 29, has been told he can leave Wigan at the end of their relegation fight and there may not be a fee to help smooth a move to his hometown club.

Leicester have also been linked with Manchester City keeper Shay Given, but he still has a shoulder injury.

Not even considering it unless he's 100% fit. He couldn't even dive to save shots when he was with us in December.

What the hell? Why are the mirror just linking us with all our loan players! Can they not get off their arses and some real journalism

Better than not being linked with anybody

Well of course we 'could'. Anybody 'could' potentially sign him, even Barcelona. Though I guess he'd be an exception there in genuinely being injured.

But for collywobbles sake, NOOOOO.

There are A LOT of good keepers out there. Our ability as a club to ignore them is mind-boggling.

Westwood

Sorensen

Kuszack

Lonergan

Al Habsi

Mannone

Turnbull

Jones

just off the top of my head. most of them cheap too.

Give him a pre season and a few games and he'll be more than a capable Championship 'keeper.

I feel he got a bit unlucky in his loan as he joined at a time where our defence was most shambolic and played in a complete farce of a game (Ipswich)

I'm not ignoring his potential for injury and ideally a pay as play would be given to him, but I'd take him without one.

Better than Weale.

Agree.

I've always felt sorry for Kirkand throughout his career. He is very injury prone which is obviously a liability but he is currently a good goalkeeper, and has the potential to be a better one. There is no doubt that if he could stay fit throughout the season, then he could be a good signing for us.

I know it didn't work out first time but that was a bit of a farce as the Ipswich game was ridiculas. Can't remember the other games in which he played in off the top of my head, but in my opinion, he is better than both Weale and Logan.

Leeds at home boxing day, and Millwall away up to half time where he was subbed off. He wasnt great against Leeds getting betaen at his near post from an impossible angle, and at Millwall he was garbage and subbed off for Weale. (For reasons I'm not sure why).

He had potential to be a good kepper but I think that time ahs long gone. He has barely played this season and he is just far too unreliable. Least Weale and Logan can be relied on to complete a game.
