Matt Mills - SIGNED

Will be a massive blow if we don't get him but then that's what happens when you're in the Championship. Most sought after players are looking for Premiership football and not another move to the Championship so we were always up against it. Think the same will happen with Maynard as well. Irritating but Sven's just got to keep plugging away and the signings will come.

Yep. We are not going to be able to click our fingers and get class players all over the pitch. If it was that easy everyone would be doing it. Spend £20m and earn £90m? Bargain.

As I said yesterday Wolves can offer Prem football,Please Sven lets look at more realistic targets such as MEE before we go on tour. Why would Mills swap to another Champ club from where he is captain of a team that finished above us last year .Our bid seems to be based on wages and so far he doesnt seem that type of player because he has not requested a transfer.

That Birmingham Mail article was indeed shite. They're usually one of the more considered papers who write about us. There will have been no arrogance from Wolves about signing him.

Sounds like we are gettng close if you believe the whispers. Only to be expected though if we agreed a fee. It's still a fairly expensive gamble for us though. He might not make the step up at all.

Regards Stearman, he's looked ok at CB in the Prem but just not quite good enough really. As he tends to make the odd positional mistake which leaves him vulnerable. He'd still be good in the NPC though IMO. In 2009 when we got promoted he was in the team of the year alongside Roger Johnson.

I might be reading to much into it but I think Bert's post is a little cryptic. He says Wolves think they have got him, which suggests to me that Sven might think differently. Why would Bert not just say 'its looking like Mills is off to Wolves'? Is this just false hope?

I agree entirely, Bert chooses his words carefully. It does not mean he is coming to us, but there is one site says Wolves will get him and another says we are favourites, there also seems to be confusion as to whether Wolves have even had a bid accepted. My conclusion has to be that all possibilities still exist.

I see your point but would he rather go to a struggling premiership club which they have done since they were promoted and no doubt they will this season,or would he rather sign for his home town club that looks like its going places,i rather think he might just might take the latter.

Reading skipper Matt Mills is near to resolving his future – with Leicester City waiting in the wings if he decides to leave the club.

Mills is understood to be speaking with Royals chairman Nick Hammond today after the club received several offers for the 24-year-old centre-back, including one from City.

Reading defender Matt Mills shows his determination to beat City's Yakubu when the teams met last season

.Wolverhampton Wanderers are also after the Reading captain, and City are believed to have matched Wolves' offer, but Reading say neither bid has matched their valuation.

Reading do not wish to lose their star defender, and certainly not to a rival Championship club, but they may be forced to if Mills indicates he wants out.

Mills, who has one year left on his contract, has always said he would not hand in a formal transfer request, but he may tell Hammond he wants to leave the Madejski Stadium.

If the Royals, who want in excess of £3million for Mills, decide not to sell they risk losing him for nothing next summer.

"The ball is in Matt's court because if the deal isn't right for him, he can walk out of Reading and join another club for nothing in a year's time," a source close to the player has said.

"He has another year left on his contract and then he can go for free."

Reading have offered Mills a new contract in a bid to convince him to stay, but he has not signed it. However, Hammond is still hopeful of keeping Mills.

"We've received offers from a number of clubs, but we are not encouraging bids for him," he said.

"I've also not given up hope that he will sign a new deal here either.

"Right now his representatives have not come back to us, but the offer is there on the table to him.

"Matt was fantastic for us last year and he is the captain of our team, there is no way that we want to lose him."

Sheffield Wednesday are still hopeful of completing a deal to sign City winger Lloyd Dyer.

However, suggestions that the 28-year-old would be signing today appear a bit premature with Wednesday now in Austria on a pre-season tour.

Meanwhile, City defender Sol Bamba has been linked with a £2m move to Marseille.

National newspaper reports say the Ivorian is a number one target for the French club.

However, City are looking to strengthen their defence and would certainly not sell Bamba unless they had recruited several other centre-backs.

As well as Mills, City are still hopeful of getting defenders Miguel Vitor and Ben Mee back for second loan spells.

Leicester-born Luke Varney has completed a £750,000 move to Portsmouth and is viewed as a direct replacement for David Nugent, who on Tuesday joined City. The former Quorn striker has moved to Fratton Park from Derby County and had a spell on loan at Blackpool last season.

5.3 mill! Bloody hell. We selling Bamba I wonder? Wonder who our two next centre backs. One more striker and our team is complete. Dead excited about this season

Seems odd that it's apparently a done deal at a time when reports suggest Mills is having discussions with Reading. Hope it's true though.
