Sven has 5 games to Save his Job

Recommended Posts

Well, if the rumours are true, he's got four games.

Everyone needs to show what they are about because we do have the personnel to be doing better than the current showing.

Just the fvcking defence that needs sorting out, nothing else really.

Concerned about the fitness levels of a few. ie, Wellens, Konchesky, Vassell.

Lose next weekend, it'll be hell on here.

Really hope we perform well (not lose) so it'll get the critics off Sven's back.

Longer this goes on, the more it reminds me of a Peter Taylor scenario, loads of money spent in a quick fire fashion and Matt Mills at the moment is looking at just as much of a bad buy as you know who.

I cant see Sven keeping job unfortunately unless he turns it around quick style

The crowd shouting and asking for 4-4-2 at half time at oakwell, and getting it (so i understand) just seems the ice cool sven is feeling the pressure big style, and the Thai's wont be having any of this.

I feel for sven, i really do, and i want him to do well, however i am getting more and more bemused in his selections and tactics.

Is Schulp injured btw? cant understand why he wasnt on the bench on Saturday

Come on Sven, sort it out, or your a goner

Is this a JOKE or?

Come on stay behind your team or shad up!

Col, I like the positive slant (for this week) on the future of LCFC as you see it. But for all the forward thinking, sometimes you can't see past the end of your nose whenst future gazing. If Sven has done exactly what you say about bringing a total bunch of strangers together, and it was his choice. This is an undeniable fact. It's great that we can agree on this. Could we also agree that Sven may understand that it is difficult for a player to acclimatise to up sticks, and move to a new club where only half a dozen players have played for the club for a short while know each other, and that time will need to be taken for them personally to get each other, before it becomes demonstrated on the pitch. Thus the extra trips of fun and bondage down rubber dinghy rapids, and elsewhere. Efforts are happening behind the scenes to make this happen.

Now I've moved a whole bunch, and I've done and worked for many a company/organisation. It can vary how long you can truly say that you get on with your workmates on a personal level, and then on a professional level where you can work as efficiently and cohesively with targets and deadlines being met with relative ease.

Do you think football is different to other industry or do you think footballers are automatons that have no basic emotion.

Sure some players will take a shorter time than others, then you add the unrealistic hype the media put on Sven, the players, and the fans, then you have an expectational demand that is higher than probably anything we can dream of, with money at stake, then others will take a longer transitional time to do so.

Obviously we'd all like the new team to come together sooner than yesterday, but my feeling is that we wouldn't see the best of them for a couple of months. I'll be judging them as I do know with rationality and objective googles on.

I think we need to convey the message clearly that Sven will make mistakes, as using the excuse that he's been here a year and we've not improved. HELLO! We do not have the same team as last year! Personnel has changed, Sven is working with a new team altogether, bar a few. Adding the year argument is not adding weight, but is a desperate attempt to put the blame on something that doesn't exist.

There are mistakes that Sven has made. I hope that through a little bit of experimentation that Sven will finally be able to show us what the team is capable of by October time. I'd rather the testing of waters is beneficial further down the line post Christmas.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, we have a BIG squad that should harmonise, and when the shit hits the fan for other teams expected to be up there or thereabouts at Christmas, will not be able to maintain the forward trajectory and depth of squad that we should on paper be able to do.

I have optimism, and will be happy to be proven wrong like some of the doubters have said they will, but when get to the end of the season, I won't be going around saying 'I told you so.'

Up the FOXES!

Spherical you are clearly an inelligent man. I respect your views as you know.

The managers I've ever worked for have been three main types. Firstly..the autocratic boss who knows his/her stuff and you need to be more of a psychopath to catch him/her out. They are usually good socially, have their 'favourites' and will stop at nothing to get rid of someone they don't like. They are the boss, usually a good leader and let people know this.

Secondly, there is the sociable type.. who wants to be everyone's friend, who prefers humour over assertion but who usually gets people on board, simply because they are likeable. The problem with this type is that they can become too close to those under them which can lead to problems if they need to discipline them.

Thirdly, their are the managers who try to flit between the two types cited above, but do not have the skills to be able to do it. They are easily caught-out and quickly become transparent. They can be a bear one day and your best friend the next. These people are usually short in self-confidence, open to splitting and invariably lose the respect of their juniors.

There are more 'types' than this, as Managerial textbooks would have us believe. However, these are the three main types of manager I have worked for.

Now, in my experience, the most effective manager is the one who can utilise bits of type 1 and 2 to their best advantage. Ferguson, for example, can be a right bar-steward but can also be highly approchable and popular. Apparently he can be a scream at club events. Mourinho, can be a dictator, but can also thrown his arm around his players when he needs to. These are managerial skills which can be learnt, but which are also, in my opinion, innate to some people.

Heres the point.... the problem I have with Sven is that I'm not convinced that he can incorporate bits of type 1 and 2 together in a meaningful way. I'm not convinced he can be a tough nut and take no nonsense when he needs to, nor I'm not sure he is seen as 'one of the boys' by those playing for him. He's no mug obviously, as he's been able to walk into jobs at will, but I believe that this is more due to Sven 'the product' than to Sven 'the man'.

Which type of manager is Sven? We knew what MON was like... actually took no nonsense from any players as 'he was the boss', but also had that knack of getting people to like him and, in the case of footballers, to play for him. When he had alleged problems with Collymore, for example, MON came out top and the former left the club.

I'm not convinced that Sven has these attributes in his toolkit. Maybe he once did have, but people can change.

However, like you I am willing to be proved completely wrong. I hope this ramble makes sense but I'm sure you'll let me know if it doesnt. :dunno:

and one of the decent strikers we own isn't currently playing for us, and sven must be the only manager in the country not to rate him

I assume you mean waghorn, in which case I have to ask - how is he a decent striker?

Aah, the modern miracle that is YouTube.

It did work for Hossein Kaebi (and Yann Kermorgant).

Sven has alienated Waghorn as he doesnt want him, and fans for soem reason fall for it and believe he is suddenly shit.

The same happened to Hobbs and Fryatt. No worse than what we have now.

Except these goals were for us, in the Championship!

If you can find a similar compilation for Darius Vassell, bring it on..

Why have you turned what I was saying to be about Sven? I was talking about the players! Typical. :frusty:

O'Neill out everyone cried before ......................

My view on this...

Forget last season, Sven needed to build a team over the summer, his team. We had to replace a number of loanees that served us well last season and we had to add strength in depth. This is why so many players have been bought. For Sven, day one for me was the Coventry game - last season was a plan B approach to come from behind doing his best to get a few players in on loan. He and the coaching team are trying to gel a team together. Whether the team was made up of 5 players from last season and 6 new or 3 from last season and 8 new, the team that walked out against Coventry was always going to need time to gel.

Last season, we stepped out with Sousa's choice of team (more or less) He got sacked and Sven needed to bring in his own players. He has now had a chance to do that and he needs to be given the whole season with the offer of a new contract around Christmas. Worst case scenario (ruling out relegation) we won't go up this year and a few minor changes next summer should see us starting to build as a team again with stability.

I would say this if our current manager were Sven, Sousa, McClaren or Vanessa frigging Phelps! Money can buy you good players but it takes time and consistency to turn those individuals into a balanced team. The most successful managers in this country had plenty of time to build a team and then optimise it - Alex Ferguson / Wenger etc

I don't agree with all the choices Sven makes - in fact I disagree more often than I agree. I get annoyed with the formation and team selection at times and jury is out on some of the player signings but I am not a proven successful football manager with years of experience in the top leagues in the world, neither do I spend time every week with the players to know if they seem in the right state of mind / fitness etc to be in my starting 11 on Saturday. I don't watch them in training trying different formations and partnerships. I am not studying the teams we are due to play by having them watched or watching video clips every week to enable me to decide on a system / group of players I think are best placed to counter the way the other teams play. I am the first to complain when the tactics don't work. I am the first to say we should play 4-4-2 when 5-3-3 isn't working but I am also the first to say we should have played 5-3-3 when we lose playing 4-4-2 - However, I do acknowledge that Sven is the one who makes these decisions based on a lot more preparation than I ever do and a lot more experience than I will ever have.

Like him or loathe him, he is our manager - he is a proven world class manager, you don't become a bad manager over night but you do get things wrong, especially when trying to build a team. And players get things wrong when fitting into a new management style. He will get used to them and they will get used to him and when that happens, we have the class and ability to do very well. I fear it will take time and I hope he is given that time and........ I hope he hurries up and brings Tunch back!!!! (but again that's my opinion!)

Ah Spherical it's as I thought you resort to sarcasm. Here is another I'm sure you know . Sarcasm is the sharp instrument of a blunt mind . And I bet your sniggering little friend will enjoy that .

Ah another saying. Wonderful. Literate. If sarcasm is my excuse for a blunt mind, what's your excuse?

What do you mean fall for it, or believe? I've seen him play a fair bit since he signed last summer and two things are very clear:

A) - He has no real ability with his shots, no finesse instead doing what all park players do - hit it as hard as you can and hope for the best.

B) - Poor technique with set-pieces, e.g. the free-kick v brizzle last month, 3 attempts at it, first two hit the wall, third one was arguably closer to hitting the screen than the goal.

That's not me falling for the idea that waghorn is crap, that's me witnessing his performances and coming to the conclusion that he's crap.

As for the play-off season, he did okay, got a few goals but my abiding memory of that season for him is extra time in the play-offs, ball coming to him free on the edge of the six-yard box and him slicing the ball high and wide from a chance I'd back even Elvis Hammond to score from.

Brilliantly balanced view. One that I second fully, this season is the start of a 'new project' and the worst thing we can do is create this negativity around the club 5-6 games into the season, when the fact is next week we could easily be 5-6 points off 1st place. Critique yes, criticize no..not so soon atleast!

Did you see his shot which hit the bar this weekend? Did you also see his goals for england u21s? Just incase you didnt notice thats 2 out of 2 for internationals so how is he not a decent striker?

Oh, he scored for the youth side of an exceedingly average nation against some crap nations and hit the bar in a match against a newly promoted team - quick, sell everyone else and get him back. dry.png

I saw one of his two goals for England U-21's (the one v Azerbaijan) and quite frankly, it's poor defending that allows him to get a shot while the keeper made Chris Weale look good at stopping long shots. Meanwhile for us he insists on taking set-pieces despite being completely inept at them & has no quality in his shots.

I'm fed up of the excuses being made for him as well - Not being given enough of a chance: He's come on for 15-20 minutes at the end of matches and done the root of **** all, while he clearly isn't up to scratch in training either.

Played out of position: When we changed to a 4-3-3 with Pearson he was played out wide, it may not be his absolute favourite position but it's still one he should be reasonably comfortable playing in given he's played out there as much as he has down the middle - under Pearson, Sousa & Sven.

Oi! We'll have enough of that!

Coming on here being all rational.

Next thing we know we'll have no grammatical(sp) errors to moan about. ;)
