Saxondale Posted 6 September 2011 Posted 6 September 2011 What balls. If it gets to Christmas and we're not in (or very near) a play-off spot, then I suspect there will be some genuine mumblings. Until then, we have a new team that needs time to gel. End of.

DJ Barry Hammond Posted 6 September 2011 Posted 6 September 2011 Could be some truth in it - I think it's more of a guestimation, but if the next 5 games didn't go well I could see Sven being shown the door? Doesn't make it so and none of it is firm fact - but it's a story nevertheless.

And on MON, he couldn't do what he did then, now.The game and business of football is incredibly different to what it was back 10 years ago. And there's no way I'd want him back, anything less than what he achieved last time and his name would be tarnished. He's a legend and he should stay that way.

accessory Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 But in Sven's case, the first one isn't either.. With the next four games against teams in the top 6, and worries about injuries to key players, his fate could be sealed.
dannythefox Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 15 Games and were not in the top three I would be surprised if Sven's still here.

With the next four games against teams in the top 6, and worries about injuries to key players, his fate could be sealed. We've already won a game against a team in the Top 6. That doesn't count at all, does it? Oh, and Coventry are 18th and F"3w5st are 20th after 6 games played. What does the table say after 6 gameweeks? Not a lot, really.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 10/11 new players were brought in.... majority are currently first teamers - would always take alot for it to gel - just let us see what we're like after 5 games - even then it's not all done/dusted. We will hit a run and then we'll see what the table is really like.

If you offered Cov 18th place at the end of the season they would bite your hand off. Forest, by their owner's admission aren't expectng promotion this season so their position is irrelevant. The contenders are beginning to make their presence felt. Unfortunately we're not among them. Top & co haven't come halfway around the world to see us become Hull's feeder club.
acooling08 Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 I'd like to be positive and say we'll go on a run when we're gelled, I really would. BUT this is Leicester City! I've been old enough to be a proper supporter for about 8 or 9 years and in that time I've seen FAR more disappointment and shitness than I have positives. Shame I wasn't born 5-10 years before. The MoN years would have been great

Top & co haven't come halfway around the world to see us become Hull's feeder club. But we will comes the end of the season. Slagging off a team just because the start of the season doesn't meet your expectations is foolish. I'd rather have a slow, painful start only to gain momentum as the season progresses instead of having to put up with a stuttering motor towards the end of the season (as seen in the past two years). I'll judge this squad and the manager fully after 46 (or up to 48) games played. Christmas will be interesting. Oh, and as for Hull - two weeks ago, they were behind us in the table and no one was using the "Feeder Club" argument. After this Saturday, all the in-the-knows are coming out of the woodwork once more, trying to rub in how great Hull are and what great work Person's doing with his former Leicester players and why we dared letting them go. Let's face it, Pearson and his side are struggling just as much as we do. Before the start of the season, I had Ipswich down as my dark horse for promotion via playoffs. Look at how hard they're finding it this season. I never thought Leeds would only take 4 points out of their first five games and come up with the worst start to a season in 14 years. Or who knew Crystal Palace would play this well? See, everybody would've loved to see us talking real business from the start. For whatever reason, this hasn't happened so far. Let's just see how this squad develops over the next ten to twenty games.

Levein, Kelly and even Holloway and Sousa, plenty of fans assured us things would get better - only to be proved wrong again and again. 6 games is usually long enough to suss out how a season will go. In our last Championship promotion season (02-03) we had 13 points at this stage. Two seasons ago, under Pearson, we managed 11 - and that was with a much tougher start than we've had this time around. When the same mistakes are being made game after game, with seemingly few efforts being made by players or management to acknowledge, let alone address them, then we have every right to be concerned.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 11 September 2011 Posted 11 September 2011 Regardless of personal opinion on what's going wrong on the pitch, and Svens faults (no plan b etc), why can't there be any truth in it? The owners want to see promotion this season. At this rate it won't happen. I saw basic tactical errors last season with sven, but all we got on here is 'give him a pre season and let him sign his own players'. Well he's had all that, and now some are saying 'give them time to gel' (after 6 games and a pre season) At what point do the owners pull the trigger? I don't necessarily want them to, it'll do more harm than good, and make the club more of a laughing stick than we are now. I'm not too disappointed with the start we've made as I wasn't expecting massive things this season anyway
Cropwellfox Posted 11 September 2011 Posted 11 September 2011 The SGE 'name' is too important for the owners to dump quickly, though if as I predict we'll bumble on averaging around 4 points from 3 games (and with Brighton, Boro and Cardiff next we'll be lucky to do that) for the next 3 months, showing glimpses of class, and plenty of tinkering with the team and mediocrity, the Thai's will have a difficult decision to make around Xmas before the January transfer window. Whatever the view on the manager, there's some things going on under his leadership which are very worrying: - somewhere between 6 and 7 mill spent on defenders and 1 clean sheet in 8 games played = piss poor - 12 new players in, not one a natural winger = piss poor - 6 games into the season, and no CF on the bench = piss poor

Yes and Peter Taylor had won the league after eight games.
Guest Col city fan Posted 11 September 2011 Posted 11 September 2011 Yes and Peter Taylor had won the league after eight games. Exactly right... And THIS is why we must give Sven until Christmas Too hasty and we won't know whether his philosophy will work However, To be honest, having watched west ham last night I think we can rule our winning the league now anyway. The best we can hope for IMO will be second
dannythefox Posted 11 September 2011 Posted 11 September 2011 If we play 4-4-2 Sven will win games and put runs together thats when they look really good. If we play 4-5-1 he wont be here after 12-15 games its not good enough.
Babylon Posted 11 September 2011 Posted 11 September 2011 Under Adams. Levein, Kelly and even Holloway and Sousa, plenty of fans assured us things would get better - only to be proved wrong again and again. How can you say people are proved wrong when half the managers you mention didn't even get much time to sort stuff out. Adams was gone very quickly, so was Sousa. For the budget Kelly was working with it he wasn't doing the worst job in the world. When investment came in he just wasn't the right man for the job. For all you know had Sousa and Adams had a few more games it may have turned about. Probably unlikely, but you just don't know so you can't say whether you were right or wrong. As someone else pointed out, many people thought Taylor was amazing after 8 games, and we all know how that turned out. You say people have blind optimism, maybe some do. But I think most people see that once again we have a brand new team and we need to give them time, and the management time to sort out our best line up, style of play etc. From day one I've said I believe next year is more likely to be our year, due to the sheer number of changes we've endured again. Maybe that's why I'm looking at the long game rather than going on about how many points we're behind after 5 or 6 games. If after a dozen games we're not seeing any kind of improvement/consistency then I might start to have even more concerns than i've got right now.
adamkhalifa Posted 11 September 2011 Posted 11 September 2011 Everyone needs to give Sven a break. I have yet to see a team, at any level, bring in so many players and start winning instantly. Getting an understanding between the players was always going to take time. We also have to give credit to the opposition for exploiting this. Now chopping and changing is not going to solve anything. Problem is when your a manager, everyone thinks they can do a better job, including me. What I think should be done: 1. Focusing on delivering and exploiting set play. (Has not even been standard class) 2. Focusing on retaining the ball under pressure. (This is how teams will play against us, so the players need to learn to exploit the opposition space). 3. Clear instructions. (We need more from Faz > Vocalisation, motivation, organisation, and at times some aggression. Let Sven be the good cop) 4. Making sure players don’t get burned out in the process. (We looked dead after 70 min yesterday) I am pretty sure Sven is already doing this, whilst everyone including myself needs to take a chill pill.

If we had the same abysmal start to a season like last year's, I'd agree with you. Bristol City are a bit of a laughing stock, because of their unwillingness to let Maynard go - they lost again yesterday, Maynard once more failed to score. I'd say deep inside other teams are still cautious about us. Good managers and reasonable fans know that after the first six games into a new season, all you can say is that you've played six games into a new season. It's all about where you stand comes May. Marathon, not a sprint and whatnot.
Master Fox Posted 11 September 2011 Posted 11 September 2011 Sweet Jesus. I think we have the thickest set of fans in the world. You people should be ashamed of your dumbness.
