No wide player on loan?

I was wondering when the loan window shuts. To be honest I'm in agreement with the OP, I'm surprised we've not signed anyone. Not overly disappointed but was actually expecting us to nab a loanee, however Pearson liked Dyer and Gallagher's weekend display isn't going to see him making way for any youngsters any time soon.

If Reading are letting Kebe go out on loan I'm not interested. The guy is so hit and miss anyway and on the decline.

I think we can probably just about manage without until January but we will need one this season.

What is 'NFP'? Nigel (f***ing) Pearson?... or am i just missing the obvious :dunno:

amended

dont think he will get anyone till january..

hes not really had long to look at the players available as it is. dyer and gally can both be hit and miss but he knows what they can do so will use them both for now i think.

NFP said we lacked width and played Dyer who most agree wasn't in the game.

I'm surprised we aren't rumoured to be getting someone.

Apparently Kebe may go to Cardiff.

I think it was Dyers first league start for ... well... ages! I personally would give him a little bit more time to settle into the team....

Agree,

Dyer is a squad player at best.

He's quick and gets defenders on the back foot but his end product is shocking, whether it's a cross, pass or shot!!

Would love to see Andros Townsend on loan from Spurs

I said this in a different thread but i am almost drooling at what Steve Walsh and a big transfer budget can achieve....

Pearson has only been here a week, and had to make use of what we already had for the Palace game. Dyer comes inside far too often, and although he has the pace, hardly gives us an end product. Gallagher hardly has the pace to beat players anyway, and is always hit and miss. So, I'd love to see Pearson get two wingers in.

Wish Vassell wasn't injured now, as he was a decent option out wide.

I can't see Reading letting Kebe go out on loan. His contract is up at the end of the year, and I've read somewhere before that he hasn't signed a new one yet (whether he wants one or not isn't clear), so surely if a club were to make a bid, for example Leicester, then I can't see McDermott not consider it.

So, because he didn't have the most influential game you want to start nother merry-go-round of loanees?

I'm not going to defend Dyer as being the best winger in the world but he's hardly had a sniff of action this season and you could have easily picked another occasion when he's been a massive positive in our attack.

Dyer wasn't entirely to blame for having a quiet day in any case. On several occasions Konchesky might have fed him for a run on their penalty box but he took other options. However the fact that the Palace defence had to remain aware of Dyer might well have meant there was more space in the centre where Gallagher and Beckford plundered their goals.

No, I can't easily prove that but it's the way it seemed to me. I've long said that having pace out wide is a threat and serves to stretch defences and it seems highly coincidental that we not only scored three but might easily have had two or three more.

Dyer might not have been especially noticeable but i wonder how many we'd have scored without him. Because, we hardly created a chance in games like Leeds and Millwall.

Whether others arrive or not Dyer needs regular match-time to show his best - as has always been the case. He's more than useful when given the chance and exactly the sort we've been missing. He should get some encouragement rather than a cheap knock because he had a quiet game.

If Pearson decides we need another winger - and I'd say we need two to give us proper cover - then I'm sure he'll have people in mind, preferably permanent.

But i don't see that should reflect on Dyer. The bloke seems under-utilised and under-rated to me. But then we don't have a great recent record with wingers.

Pearson will want to give the players already in the squad a chance to show what they can do before bringing in new players.

I didn't think Dyer did too badly, having him playing widened the pitch and Konchesky looked more comfortable.

Vassell didn't consistently beat anyone out wide and is less of a goal threat than Dyer having scored only 10 goals in recent seasons compared with Dyer's 33, Vassell playing in far fewer matches due to injury and whatnot.

As for Dyer's moving "inside" too much I'd say that's easily corrected if the manager sees fit but I actually see no problem if Konch is prepared to maintan the width and get behind defenders as he did before our third goal Sunday.

For me a winger needs to be fluid to be most effective. They need to change flanks and move inside and out. Th important thing is that the team understands it and that someone takes responsibility for creating width in their absence.

Having people glued to a flank like Kelly used to do with Levi Porter is naive. It's like a birthday treat for any decent defender. Even the brilliant Cristiano Ronaldo moves about endlessly - increasing the chances of his marker and other defenders making mistakes.

Hate to be negative but if Dyer is our best wide player we've got a problem.

Thats why you've just replied to a 'No wide player on loan?' thread.

We all know its a problem.
