ScouseFox Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 Bloody brilliant. I love you Gally. Free kick nobody else in our squad could produce. Beckham-esque. Drinkwater ran the show. Superb performance. I'll post more later when I can feel my fingers.
beryllind Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 Good result, Midfield looks so much better, everyone put in a shift, pity we didn't rub their noses in it and get a bigger score line. Encouraging lets hope we can have a good run
Guest Col city fan Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 Just got back and have to say, we absolutely dominated Cardiff today. In the first half they were about as poor as Watford when they visited the King Power. The defence looked calm and consistent, midfield controlled the game, definitely Wellens best performance of the season, Nugent and linked well, Beckford in all honesty played an excellent game put in a real shift. Very proud of the team today, looked very very good. You're right.. We absolutely ran the centre of the park today. Drinkwater looks very good, and compliments Wellens game. Regarding Becks, I thought it was a 'typical' performance from him... Flashes of real talent, along with the ridiculous. I remember a delicious through ball from Richie, about mid way through the second half, when Beckford failed to take it in his stride. Shame cos he would have been through on goal. The defence looked solid today and restricted them to very few chances. Even Mills passing was much much better. A good day at the office....
21st Century Fox Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 Goddamn I hate Cardiff. Excellent result. If we can plough this into a good run, it should cushion the crapness of the rest of the season so far.
Bert Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 Fantastic performance which was orchestrated by our centre midfield.
Micky Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 I agree, i think for all Danns gives us, today Drinkwater showed us a different level of ability - ball retention, passing, quick feet etc.
Mack Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 Can we have Mark Halsey ref us every week? It's like a different game when you have a decent ref on the pitch. Pedestrian game at times, Cardiff sat in for long periods and we couldn't break them down. They had to come out of their shell after the penalty and the game opened up.
Webbo Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 Totally controlled the game for all but a couple of minutes, a penalty was the only way they were going to score. Drinkwater was all over them, Beckford worked his socks off and deserved a goal, SSL was superb.
Guest Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 Drinkwater looked good. Beckford is a selfish player - that could be a good thing but he needs to put the balls in the net when he doesn't pass to an open Nugent so often.
Guest Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 Great win today, 6 points of the playoffs with two winnable games coming up. Good performance from the whole team! WHO ARE YA. I thought we were still 7 points behind Hull (6th) who have a game in hand; Winnable games? How many of those have we messed up.
Matt Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 Played well, good win, much needed win. Sorry to sound pesimistic but i'm not getting excited - the season is pretty much over as far as i'm concerned unless we can get some consistancy going - something we've not done all season. (Another reason for feeling/thinking this way is if we do manage to make the playoffs it will be a nice surprise, but i'm not expect playoffs now, like really we should have been aiming for as a minimum at the start of the season) But if we can get some confidence from the end of the season going into next season that will be a big positive.
Leicfox Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 Was it SSL who made that interception in stoppage time? Whoever it was saved a goal imo.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 Brilliant win but unless we follow it up with a win away at Watford . . . . . . . . . Season still over
Captain... Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 Video of Gally's freekick Nice one, how many do they want in the wall I count 8, and they still can't stop Gally
Tielemans63 Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 Just got back. A bit hairy at the end but for 60+ minutes I thought we were terrific. Thought Drinkwater had a solid game.
Kitchandro Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 Thought it was a good all round performance. We still lack creativity though, we dominated possession and kept it well but had a tendency to play the long ball too often. We still need a midfielder who is going to dribble it and run at defenders. We're always trying to pick a killer pass but it's difficult when the opposition have players behind the ball. Overall though it would have been a travesty if we didn't win. Every player had a decent game IMO without anyone being fantastic, but there were a number of pleasing performances. We bossed them until they got the goal back and Gallagher's second was a beauty. Their goal came from Kasper dropping the ball from a cross but I think it'd be harsh to blame him too much as he had about 3 Cardiff players bumping into him. Cardiff have been rubbish in the 2 league games against us this season. Good atmosphere again, outsung them for pretty much the whole game, even Welshmen would agree with that surely
Dylan Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 Brilliant performance, very impressed. Thought the defence was solid again, big Sol's going to have trouble getting back into this team. Dealt relatively well with everything and handled their big lad quite well imo. The central midfield was so much better- one of the best performances I've seen from them in a while. I'm not Wellens' biggest fan at all, but couldn't put a foot wrong with him today- had an absolute beauty of a game; got stuck in, won the ball, and moved it along. Impressed with Drinkwater once more; he's quality and ALWAYS making himself available and not scared to possess the ball. Well taken penalty, and a beauty of a free-kick Gallagher; but I'm not getting overly excited. Call me pessimistic, but he wasn't exactly fantastic during the match, and wasn't that much of a threat during open play. Given that, he scored a brace and credit to him for that... just wouldn't be surprised if he's utterly useless on Tuesday Nugent didn't have his best game today, but hopefully will be back to his usual form on Tuesday. Overall, good performance against a decent side, and an excellent result... need to get all 3 points at Watford though.

Cropwellfox Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 I really don't think Gallagher does enough across a run of games, but as a supporter of the club am delighted for him and the team his set piece delivery has won us the points today. Would love to be proved wrong and for this to be the start of a run of real form for him, and maybe having a threat to his position it will be. If only he was consistent he could do for us what Whittingham has done for Cardiff for a number of years. Nothing to demonstrate this consistency in the 3 years he's been here, and the occasional worldy goal and free kick just adds to the frustration of the player. The support today was excellent - if we can build this atmosphere for the rest of this season into next i'm sure next year will be much more fun at the KP.
Corky Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 We've found the best way to react to a bad defeat (Barnsley)- sign their best player. Drinkwater looked so comfortable on the ball, moved around the pitch which allowed Wellens to play well and the game to be spread. We thoroughly deserved that. 2-1 flattered Cardiff, who were stunningly negative (our place isn't a fortress you know, Malky). They played right into our hands- the defence had time and space and we could build attacks rather than just aim hopeful balls in the air. And we tested their keeper, who made four or five fine saves. Beckford was superb- quick, threatening, determined. Gallagher's free-kick was special. The defence played it's part. Dyer's running gave them problems. We were positive from the off and the crowd was too. Well done to all on a deserved win and encouraging performance.

Long may this continue, wasnt at the game today myself but it sounded quite good on the radio (what bits i managed to listen to)
