The World Football Thread

And it’s taken you this long to reach this conclusion?

Looking up to MC Prussian?

Fooks sake...

Back in the early days of FT, Alex' contributions were predominantly about world cinema, travelling and world football.

I don't remember him going all weirdly alt-right MAGA until recently. But like I said, maybe I just never noticed.

I'm saying Kean could've done better and ignored the idiots, that would've really hurt the lot. You think they'll think about changing their attitude now? Showing off in "defiance" does not resolve the issue, it just keeps adding fuel to the fire, something another poster pointed out. Hence my "fighting fire with fire" response.

Well considering Balotelli, Muntari and Mataudi suffer racist abuse in past years at Cagliari, this included Muntari asking to be subbed off....maybe its time to 'fight fire with fire'.

Maybe it's time the Italian Football Federation showed some balls and went after Cagliari by legal means.

Maybe it's time for Cagliari to tackle their imbecile fan fraction, either by expulsion or by going after them by legal means.

Maybe it's time to drain the swamp.

Maybe it's time to start throwing bananas at racists.

I'm sorry you get this impression, but this is outside of this thread and warrants a discussion in another thread or on another platform.

But to call me alt-right MAGA is fvcking hilarious if you knew where I stand politically.

Just don't start smearing me, Rich. lol

So the young black player should be quiet and do his job and ignore the blatant racist abuse?

I could maybe, maaaaaybe, maaaaaaaaaaaaaybe stretch to accepting that in England where racist abuse by and large really is just one brain dead drunk idiot out of 30'000 in a stadium (but not really because seriously no racism should be ignored.)

But in Italy where its still a massive institutional problem in their football?

**** off, Alex. When you came out with the disgusting shit about women I raised an eyebrow, it never seemed like you. I know we've had disagreements over the years but I always used to look up to you as a pretty open minded, well travelled, worldly person. Now I can't work out if you're trolling because you're bored or if you really are just such a nasty little bigot. Maybe you were always this way and I never noticed.

But Jesus, just stop wading in and putting your foot in it.

A lot of strong words in here, Rich. "Nasty little bigot"... Wow. Let's keep it civilized, shall we?

I think you'd be better off discussing this in another thread than on here because it's so strongly off-topic, and I suppose you mean my previous contributions surrounding the Kavanagh case.

Maybe we can go back either openly or by PM where you can show me what "disgusting shit about women" you mean exactly.

And maybe it's perfectly feasible and possible to be open-minded and worldly and still come up with the kind of criticism that I've shared in recent times.

I respect people, I respect people's opinion. I remain skeptic. This is what it's all about.

Thank you.

Yep, all legitimate options just as Kean's was.

  • 3 weeks later...

Marseille's president has proposed a rule change to allow goals scored from shots fired outside of the box to count for two goals, instead of one.

“FIFA (the video game) is one of my competitors,” Jacques-Henri Eyraud said. “Fortnite is one of my competitors in the digital world. Football is extraordinarily conservative, it has to evolve. “Why does (the video game) now propose that a goal put outside of the box, is worth two points? Why could not that be the case in real life?”

Does FIFA let you do that?   This would change football even more than the 3-point shot changed hoops.  Why build up play?  Just kick it round the edge of the box and set a double pick to get a free-kick specialist an open look.  Pink slips for every big lump striker.

Or maybe OM just have a silly WUM in their president's chair.

Ibra can be such a melt sometimes.

Mate its sledging it happens in every sport in the world and it'll have happened loads of times in Onuoha's career. He's just having a moan because he lost and because its Ibra.

He even admits that Ibra went in to make peace afterwards and he was a dick about it.

There's a melt in this story and its not Zlatan.

Hmm. Ibra can't have any complaints about being disrespectful though given his comments in the match - shit excuse to say that's what gets him going trying to start on someone (or threatening to do so verbally). That's shit sledging anyway lol

Sledging doesn't have to be funny, witty or original. It's functional, it has a purpose, to throw your opponent off their game. It's not for entertaining the audience.

Onouha was well and truly triggered (I'm sorry, I do hate that term) and Zlatan scored and won. It worked.

As Zlatan says, what happens on the field stays on the field. He went to say no hard feelings afterwards and Onouha acted like a salty bitch. That's on him.

Nothing wrong with a bit of a WUM.

Zlatan is an absolute **** and nobody change my opinion. No problem with a bit of mouthing off and a some strong challenges etc etc but the absolute lack of respect he shows to other players is disgusting. No matter who you are and what you ve achieved in football, you should always show respect to your fellow pros. Honestly cant understand why anybody likes this guy. The sooner he ****s off and retires the better!

Well, Ibrahimovic went to the Real Salt Lake locker room and tried to apologize to Onouha, but apparently that wasn't good enough:

Weird that you have this much hate in your heart for somebody who seems like a thoroughly decent bloke.

He may be a nice bloke in his personal life, ive never met him and don't know anything about his personal life as i don't with most pro sports people. Its not unheard of for people to form opinions of professional sports stars based on the way they conduct themselves on the pitch.

Yes but Nedum said he came over and said have you calmed down now big man. There is going giving an apology and there is going over and still being an arrogant ****. Id imagine he was probably being the latter as thats who the guy is. Nedum has never seemed like a malicious or arrogant player in any way. I dont know the full details of what happened and im just giving an opinion on what ive seen and what Nedum said. And it didnt just take this incident for me to dislike the guy, hes been an arrogant, disrespectful **** his whole career.
