Corky Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 Considering his pedigree and how pleased I was to see him come to LCFC he was a big disappointment never really stamping his name on games, rightly or wrongly I expected more from him. I don't wish him any ill feelings he was paid well but didn't deliver for me. Booo
Leicester_Loyal Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 Top bloke, great player for the club. Will be a good league 1 or league 2 player for somebody.
Out Foxed Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 good. should have happened a lot sooner. why has moussa gone to chesterfield. he was good for donny last season dunno why he has to drop that far down.

reynard Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 Considering his pedigree and how pleased I was to see him come to LCFC he was a big disappointment never really stamping his name on games, rightly or wrongly I expected more from him. I don't wish him any ill feelings he was paid well but didn't deliver for me. Completely agree with this sentiment. He is/was an average pro footballer who has had a decent career but he was past his best when he came to us and really was pretty average most of the time with the exception of our time in league 1. For those saying he was a "great" player for us I think this well over the top. Lineker, Weller, Izzet etc were "great" players for us Oakley I'm afraid doesn't come close. Not sure what we've really being paying for this season. Still good luck to him and I'm sure his wine business will flourish.
Corky Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 We did get him at the wrong time of his career. Four years earlier and he might've been more effective.
volpeazzurro Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 granted its time for him to move on but lets not forget what a good contribution this fella has made. Captained us to the title in League 1, playing consistently well either in the centre of midfield or on the right then a decent season in the Championship the year after. A good professional and good luck to him My sentiments entirely, good luck Matt and thank you. I do wonder sometimes re the comments people make like hoping Steve Howard goes soon as well etc etc. In Howard and Oakley we've had two players in my opinion that have always given of their best for the cause regardless of the fact that they are both towards the latter part of their footballing careers. So to that end I think they both deserve a little bit more in terms of respect. If NP thinks Howard is still worth putting on the bench then that's not Howard's fault and he will still always give of his best. I sometimes think that if I was a player and read some of the comments made about me, it would be no wonder if I didn't give a toss about the fans and just came for the money.
Callabinho Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 I have a lot of time for Matt! Nice bloke, wish him well with his future!
Guest Col city fan Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 I have a lot of time for Matt! Nice bloke, wish him well with his future! Agree completely. Consummate professional. And didn't cause the club any trouble. Decent fella.
ScouseFox Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 Glad to see the clear out process is underway. Nice one for being decent in League One, Matthew.
LCFC BEAST Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 Thank you Matt for everything, best player at the end of last season and outstanding in league one for us, all the best P.S Don't become a pundit, you looked suicidal when we played Southampton.
BoneDog Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 Got some good memories of Matt in our League 1 season. There were some great away days that season and Matt chipped in with his fair share of entertainment. Like davieG says though, I did expect more when I first heard we'd signed him.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 Long overdue. Showed zero balls or effort in the season we went down, did okay in League One by playing alright on a no doubt pretty decent contract (the only reason he stuck around) and then was painfully out of his depth upon our return to the Championship. Seemed one of the more intellectual types but never displayed too many leadership qualities to warrant being captain. Anyone else remember our League One championship-crowning evening against Scunthorpe as a few fireworks followed by the Matt Oakley lap of honour with the trophy?! And unfortunately his actions at Derby away when we lost 1-0 will stick longer, and more prominently, in the memory than anything else he ever did. No thanks or mentions of 'great service' forthcoming from me I'm afraid.
Ashley Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 About time as well. What I am about to post might be harsh, but its true. He was a pundit for the Southampton away game. On the show Oakley looked ill and not in the correct state of mind, constantly shaking holding his hands between his legs and looking down at his feet. How could someone like that be our club captain? All the best Matt in your future though.
Guy Posted 17 March 2012 Posted 17 March 2012 Excellent service Matt, had Pearson stayed for longer (and had no hiatus to then be in first and second spell here terminology) - and therefore played more games for us - then I'm sure you'd have been remembered more than just a pivotal player who got us through our rough spell down in dreaded league one as Champions that year.
SystonFox Posted 17 March 2012 Posted 17 March 2012 He's being slated for being paid too much and being a shit pundit? Jesus ruddy wept! Cheers Matt for the service. Consummate pro and one of the good guys in football. All the best in the future
ThurnbyLodgeFox Posted 17 March 2012 Posted 17 March 2012 Good luck Matt! I reckon he'll go to Exeter after his loan and all.. Good signing for them
teblin Posted 17 March 2012 Posted 17 March 2012 Good luck to him. Always put 100% in. On his day he could make us tick! Didnt happen often enough though.
FrankieADZ Posted 17 March 2012 Posted 17 March 2012 Best of luck to him where ever he goes... Just dont come back and scored against us you hear

Did he belittle the supporters on air? No, he just looked a bit nervous.
RonnieTodger Posted 17 March 2012 Posted 17 March 2012 Overdue, but a great servant to the club. Fantastic leader in League One, chipping in with plenty of goals. Disgustingly treated for applauding Derby fans after they gave him a great reception. If I was him I would've done the same thing. Thanks for everything Matt.
