Bettsj2 Posted 4 June 2012 Posted 4 June 2012 Another good thing about him leaving is the fat **** in the Kop I used to sit near can no longer call him, 'Sol Sambo' and then look round for recognition with that stupid ****ing grin plastered across his fat ****ing face.
MPH Posted 4 June 2012 Posted 4 June 2012 I'd say it gets excused because more often than not his strength means they rarely get passed him. Other than in one or perhaps two games did his "lack of pace" even look a problem. When we had the slowest defence in the history of mankind ( Taggert/Elliot/Walsh era) George Graham once famously said that running into Leicesters defence is like running into a brick wall.....
Out Foxed Posted 4 June 2012 Posted 4 June 2012 Yep .... ship out a talented footballer rather than coach him on his defensive lapses. To be fair it's a matter of opinion anyway - I don't think he was a bad defender by any means. There were many reasons to keep him and none that support selling him so cheap. Hey ho .... more reasons to look forward to next season ... a little less excitement is what Leicester fans seem to crave! i haven't seen anything to suggest we could have coached him into a better player. whether it's because of Sol or the coaching staff.
Guest Col city fan Posted 4 June 2012 Posted 4 June 2012 Well I noticed it in several games but I guess it depends on how hard you are looking and as I said Bamba is the more noticeable out of all the defenders and attracts most of the attention, they all have their good and bad points and on balance I still don't see Bamba being worse than the others obviously Trabzonspor don't either. This... And you are right Davie... Morgan is a brick outhouse but if he has an Achilles heel it's his lack of speed over the first few yards. I'm with you, I've seen this be a problem a few times, although I do think he's a good signing. Bamba is quicker than Wes, whereas Morgan reads the game better. I think they compliment each other personally. However, I reiterate... There's been so much talk this season about Bamba and SSL. Mills, Morgan.. Who plays best with who etc ... And I think this is all missing the point that we don't defend well as a team. It's law of averages innit... You get put under so much pressure because of a non existent defensive midfield, the back five will crack and concede at some point....whoever is playing there.

MikeyT Posted 4 June 2012 Posted 4 June 2012 This doesn't bother me. Cya Sol. Same here. I'm honestly not that fussed at all. Obviously wish him all the best though.
rico Posted 4 June 2012 Posted 4 June 2012 When we had the slowest defence in the history of mankind ( Taggert/Elliot/Walsh era) George Graham once famously said that running into Leicesters defence is like running into a brick wall..... i remember one newspaper calling Elliot and Prior "skin-headed gladiators"
dannythefox Posted 4 June 2012 Posted 4 June 2012 I still think with some good coaching Bamba could be very good but we'l probably just sell him for peanuts like we do everyone else!
Fox 4 Life Posted 4 June 2012 Posted 4 June 2012 I don't get all this talk about if he was coached he could be so much better, he is 26 and before signing for us played for an average Scottish team. Why didn't all the real Madrid, barca scouts pick up on his so called potential then.... maybe because he isn't actually that good! I admit he is exciting to watch and is a beast in the air but the nickname bomb scare hits the nail on the head. You can't coach reactions and that is where he falls down. He has been a good player and I will never forget that performance against City in the FA cup but I won't be sad to see him go.

davieG Posted 4 June 2012 Posted 4 June 2012 Ha I said a very good player not a world beater! It's the norm on here for some people to quote extremes when trying to make a point.
Guest Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 All our defenders have weaknesses and make mistakes Bamba's really no better or worse than the others, I suspect Bamba's are a more noticeable than some of the others because he is 'larger than life' for example Morgan is often caught out by pace but because he is seen as solid this get's excused. I agree with this. Morgan is more Bob Hazell. Bamba is the better player but I think they'd make a great partnership helping to cover each other's weaknesses.
Leicester_Loyal Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 I agree with this. Morgan is more Bob Hazell. Bamba is the better player but I think they'd make a great partnership helping to cover each other's weaknesses. As shown by the vast amount of goals they conceded towards the end of last season
Happy Fox Posted 5 June 2012 Author Posted 5 June 2012 Fourth Official @Fourth_Official Leicester City's Sol Bamba is set to undergo a medical with Trabzonspor #LCFC
Walker Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 Would only be bothered if one of Kasper, Nugent or Marshall left. Good luck to him, though.
Father Ted Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 I'm glad Pearson has continued to build steel into his bollocks. Now to move on Mills and Peltier and our defence is beginning to look much more solid for next season.
Guest Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 As shown by the vast amount of goals they conceded towards the end of last season You seem to equate the two central defenders and goals conceded. As a team Leicester were terrible at defending, the biggest culprits were the midfielders who left the defenders high and dry. I seem to remember someone showed statistically based graphs that showed results were better with Bamba in defence than anyone else last season.
Guest Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 I'm glad Pearson has continued to build steel into his bollocks. Now to move on Mills and Peltier and our defence is beginning to look much more solid for next season. so a defence with 3 less players is better. Addition by subtraction?

You could put Vidic next to Bamba and the stats wouldn't change. How can anybody partner somebody that erratic, so inept at covering and non-existent positioning?
Guest Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 You could put Vidic next to Bamba and the stats wouldn't change. How can anybody partner somebody that erratic, so inept at covering and non-existent positioning? In your opinion.
Father Ted Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 so a defence with 3 less players is better. Addition by subtraction? For me: Moore - Morgan - De Laet - Konchesky is extremely solid. Don't forget we also have Kennedy covering left back, De Laet who can cover right back, St.Ledger who can cover centre-back and right-back. One more defensive minded signing and we are set. Do we really need 2 players for every position like Sven, not taking into account the capable academy players? I've also heard Matty James can play right back if needed?
Father Ted Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 In your opinion. Yes, thats my opinion but the stats on the whole don't lie that we concede way too many goals... Stearman - McAuley - Kisnorbo - Johannson AND Morrison - Hobbs - Brown - Berner two defences that were a UNIT and worked in unison, all players were on the same wavelength and that's why the defences were so solid. Peltier - Bamba - Morgan - Konchesky will never work and Peltier and Bamba are the weak links. Get rid and bring in unfashionable but solid and reliable players and that is the way forward.
Guest Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 You're talking about a division 1 back 4 there aren't you? Wes = O'neill Bamba = May
Guest Posted 5 June 2012 Posted 5 June 2012 The ridiculousness of City fans trashing Bamba. He's not good enough to play in the back four of a mid table championship team but he's wanted by a Champions League team who only conceded 5 goals in their six champion's league matches last season. smh
