Callabinho Posted 2 June 2012 Posted 2 June 2012 I am pretty annoyed at this to be honest! He is one of our best players, but we know Pearson too well, his tolerance levels are stupidly low.
sdb Posted 2 June 2012 Posted 2 June 2012 Good player, worth at least £1mill and probably more. Shame to see him leave.
MGLCFC Posted 3 June 2012 Posted 3 June 2012 He is one of the best footballers, but he is not a grear defender. Primarily I want defenders who can stop the opposition scoring, and unfortunately for Bamba he likes to showboat too much for me. Great athlete, great ability but a poor defender positionally IMO. Hope we get £1million+ for him, then see Chester, Morgan and SSL fighting for the 3 central defensive duties next year with De Leat and Konchesky as full backs.
FrankieADZ Posted 3 June 2012 Posted 3 June 2012 shame to see him go, just hope we get a decent price for him; £1.5million+(& add on's) would be good imo. be disappointed if it was less. Still I wish him good luck... if he wants to come back...i wouldnt mind either
RonnieTodger Posted 3 June 2012 Posted 3 June 2012 Gutted about this. Personally, I rate him as our 2nd best defender by Morgan. Says a lot about our centre-backs, really. It was obvious from the start, that Pearson was never overly keen on Big Sol.

It was obvious from the start, that Pearson was never overly keen on Big Sol. I could certainly see a Morgan/Bamba partnership only getting better. I'm not surprised another club is courting Sol... Given a consistent back four partnership and, most importantly, a team that knows how to keep the ball and defend as a team, Bamba is easily good enough to do well at this level IMO. With the lightweight midfield we had for large parts of last season, even Paolo Maldini would have been exposed...
Bluetintedspecs Posted 3 June 2012 Posted 3 June 2012 Sol Bamba to me = Smile on my face one minute head in my hands the next,if not NPs cup of tea then best to let him move on as I do believe he is the manager and the person whose head is on the block if things don't work out next season!
eaststandtom Posted 3 June 2012 Posted 3 June 2012 Sol has put a much needed smile on our faces at times over the last 18 months. for that it is a shame to see him go but from a defensive point of view this club hasn't progressed since we had hobbs and brown at the back so we need to start from scratch in that respect.
anotherharboroughfox Posted 3 June 2012 Posted 3 June 2012 When the ball hit's the net, and the women get wet. That's Sol Bamba. He's the best in the land, only two hundred grand. That's Sol Bamba. No copyright intended. Please don't sue me Bilo.

In my opinion I think it's Bamba who wants to move because he doesn't like Pearson or that 1st team football is not guaranteed.
MGLCFC Posted 3 June 2012 Posted 3 June 2012 I don't think it's a case of not liking Pearson personally, more the case he doesn't enjoy the style of football Pearson wants him to adopt. There have been times when Bamba has been outstanding and others woeful and I think what Pearson is after is consistency and I would adhere to that policy.
Fox42 Posted 3 June 2012 Posted 3 June 2012 You could tell he isn't Pearson's sort of player... He hasn't been himself ever since Pearson came in... His performances from August - October have been outstanding. Him and Matt Mills were solid at one stage... o.O not gonna lie I saw this coming, but I knew that Pearson would do a clearout but I'd have thought Banba would have generated the most money... I expected £2m at least tbh...
5waller5 Posted 4 June 2012 Posted 4 June 2012 Another predictable piece of business .... sell an exciting player for too little and replace with work-man-like but solid. I can't wait for next season ... it's going to be sooooo exciting.
MGLCFC Posted 4 June 2012 Posted 4 June 2012 Yes a predictable piece of business - ship out a talented footballer who can't defend and replace him with a someone who knows how to defend - I'm not too bothered about Leicester defenders being showboaters, would much rather have a solid back 4 unit that do the basics properly, keep clean sheets and let those in the team who are the play makers do their job. Sol has been entertaining no doubt and at times shown brilliance, but his moments of brilliance are often as a result of him being out of position in the first place. Chelsea have had all their problems with David Luiz, they revert back to Terry and Ivanovic/Cahill and they win 2 trophies. I know you are going to say Luiz played in the final, but they got there because of the changes made by De Matteo when AVB left.

Yep .... ship out a talented footballer rather than coach him on his defensive lapses. To be fair it's a matter of opinion anyway - I don't think he was a bad defender by any means. There were many reasons to keep him and none that support selling him so cheap. Hey ho .... more reasons to look forward to next season ... a little less excitement is what Leicester fans seem to crave!

davieG Posted 4 June 2012 Posted 4 June 2012 All our defenders have weaknesses and make mistakes Bamba's really no better or worse than the others, I suspect Bamba's are a more noticeable than some of the others because he is 'larger than life' for example Morgan is often caught out by pace but because he is seen as solid this get's excused.
MGLCFC Posted 4 June 2012 Posted 4 June 2012 The truth is that Bamba is a bit of a maverick and I'm not convinced he can change permanently. I'm not saying he's not a good player, but I don't think Pearson builds a defence around flair players. He just likes defenders to do their job in an ugly, yet effective way. Whilst Morgan is somewhat slow, he's not static like brown and his positional sense is very good and he is very difficult to get past as well as being comfortable on the ball.
Babylon Posted 4 June 2012 Posted 4 June 2012 In my opinion I think it's Bamba who wants to move because he doesn't like Pearson or that 1st team football is not guaranteed.
Babylon Posted 4 June 2012 Posted 4 June 2012 Morgan is often caught out by pace but because he is seen as solid this get's excused. I'd say it gets excused because more often than not his strength means they rarely get passed him. Other than in one or perhaps two games did his "lack of pace" even look a problem.

Well I noticed it in several games but I guess it depends on how hard you are looking and as I said Bamba is the more noticeable out of all the defenders and attracts most of the attention, they all have their good and bad points and on balance I still don't see Bamba being worse than the others obviously Trabzonspor don't either.
