bradley_19 Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 i think hes needed, loads more to come from him and if he goes it will only come back at us when we play them next year.......
Tielemans63 Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 Still undecided on the chap if I'm honest, flashes of brilliance but not enough. His poor touch and effort is going to limit him (and us) unless we are just laying stuff on a plate for him. If we can get most of his wages off the books then I think we could get in better value. He's one of them you wouldn't be shocked if he did well next year. As (almost) ever Babylon, I agree with you completely. I don't dislike the guy but I would be far from devastated if he did leave. I can't see Leeds matching his current wages though, especially with that tight-fisted tosser as chairman.
Guest MattP Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 Wouldnt bother me if he went. 9 in 39 is far short of acceptable what's being paid and I'm not going use goals against Swindon etc in the FA Cup to bump up his tally. If we can get £1.5million for him it's good business.
Raw Dykes Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 As (almost) ever Babylon, I agree with you completely. I don't dislike the guy but I would be far from devastated if he did leave. I can't see Leeds matching his current wages though, especially with that tight-fisted tosser as chairman. Based on his wages and his performances this season, I think we'd be mad not to get rid. Maybe he'd be better next season if we hang on to him, but it's a massive gamble. He really isn't that good, and I really don't think he's very committed to our cause. I'm not sure Leeds would have to match his wages. Beckford clearly loves Leeds, and would almost certainly be willing to take a pay cut to return to them. Even if he wouldn't, we would probably be willing to top up his wages a bit, just to get the bulk of his wages off our bill.
Ric Flair Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 Wouldn't be happy with this. I do rate McCormack though so if we have to sell to these bastards then get him in a swap deal.
MPH Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 Neither. I assume he is leaving in the summer. With 9 league goals this season, i wouldn't consider that sinister 15 goals in total for the season though..
foxesfan1989 Posted 1 May 2012 Author Posted 1 May 2012 15 goals in total for the season though.. Yep true. But is that a good enough return? Not really. I'm neither pro nor anti Beckford to be clear. If he sold, that's fine with me. If Pearson decides to keep him and try and get more out of him, well that is fine too. But if he has another season at Leicester like he has had this year, we won't be getting promoted.
Corky Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 Beckford hasn't been a disaster, nor has he been a glowing success. Flashes of brilliance mixed in with non-existant performances. I wouldn't like to see him go, as I think he'll do well elsewhere and we could be left with a feeling of "maybe if we kept him longer", but if we get in a better replacement (not guaranteed) then it might be for the best all round.
crisp packet Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 Not read thread , but didn't this story come out in jan transfer window? Old news.......?!?!
Dan Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 Get rid. I don't care what he'd do elsewhere, he won't, and doesn't even want to do it for us. I cannot see why people still want him. Amazing.
champions 08/09 Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 his stats appearences and goals: league FA cup 33(6) 9 4(1) 6 13 goals in 2012 nugents appearences and goals: league FA cup 41(1) 15 5(0) 1 8 goals in 2012
Bert Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 Get rid. I don't care what he'd do elsewhere, he won't, and doesn't even want to do it for us. I cannot see why people still want him. Amazing. Scores goals.
cc_star Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 He'll probably do well elsewhere, has been far from great for us even though he has the potential to be so The realities of FFP and the fact we could both get a fee for him along with removing a large wage burden, freeing it up to allocate on someone who can do the business for us, along with maybe shoring up another position... all for the same money, it's a tough gamble... But FFP will mean juggling numbers like this, having someone nifty with a calculator will be just as important as a key member of the management team
Ross 'LCFC' Turner Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 9 league goals in about 38 appearances 1 awful half a season & 1 that could be described as inconsistent, perhaps this weak goal return could be excused if he contributed to the team more, but his pressing, tackling & assists are almost non-existent too Gally by comparison who gets a rough time has scored just 1 goal less but in 18 starts, has same number of assists & does press. Don't get how some people think sun shines of Jermaine's arse when his stats don't stack up & performances are too frequently weak-to-shocking. On top of this he cost £2.5m + over £1m/yr, for the £3.5 he's cost us this past year we can certainly do better by signing almost anyone else or maybe 2 Saying that JB does have talent, but he's pretty inflexible regarding the approach & changes the 10 other players need to take to get the best out of him. 'if he contributed to the team more, but his pressing, tackling & assists are almost non-existent too' Yakubu was guilty of this but everybody on here didn't mind because 'he scores goals', and that's what Beckford has done. Beckford is a massive scapegoat on here, he's scored 16 goals in a poor season from both him and us. We're lucky we have the likes Marshall, Gallagher, King that chip in and score goals too so we don't have to rely so heavily on the strikers. Waghorn is absolute god on here and in his first season scored 12 goals in 45, barely prolific.

Yakubu had half of one. If Beckford had a record like Yakubu's for us, I would understand why he gets so much praise. The fact is he has a lot of bad sides to his game as well as his lack of determination to succeed for us (it's so clear), the reality is his goals record is actually on the whole, nowhere near good enough. It's what I'd expect of a forward from the bottom 3.
Happy Fox Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 F**k Leeds we are going to get mugged off again, Snodgrass or no chance.
Raw Dykes Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 I think we should consider ourselves very lucky if we get any sort of fee for him. Trust me, if Leeds pay anything to take him off our wage bill, it will be us mugging them off. Of course, it's Sod's law that he'll be a goal machine for them next season, but I can't see him showing any real improvement here. We'd definitely be the mugs if we pay £30k a week (or whatever it is. Someone even said it was close to £50k!) for 9 league goals, and next to nothing else in terms of helping us to promotion, again next season. The money we're spending on Beckford can be spent so much more wisely, especially considering the new FFP rules are being introduced. We'd be nuts to keep him if we get any offers. If he's still here next season, I'll be expecting to see much more from him.
RowlattsFox Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 I think it could well bite us in the arse, especially if he went to Leeds. BUT only if we fail to replace him, I'd be happy to sell him aslong as he is replaced by someone better. Then if Beckford does well for Leeds it becomes irrelevant.
Ashley Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 9 in 34. Absolutely mediocre. Fact. I would like to see you do better with **** all service. Now we've bid for Koren we may actually have someone to provide him with the service he needs.
Happy Fox Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 I would like to see you do better with **** all service. Now we've bid for Koren we may actually have someone to provide him with the service he needs. Beckford is off I am resigned to it, oh look we are replacing him with Matty Fryatt , it would be a huge mistake to get rid of Beckford so soon imo.
BlooArmeh! Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 Pretty sure we all know he's a quality striker - granted, he's not had the best of seasons but I can honestly say that I don't think there are many other strikers that are BETTER than Beckford, and that would come to our club considering we won't be paying ridiculous prices/wages. Furthermore, we're a Championship team, we won't be able to attract many quality strikers... This season has proved that we can't just buy our way straight in to the Premier League. If we DO sell Beckford, we need to ensure we have a quality and reasonably priced replacement, regardless of his wages or initial cost. We don't need to sell to be able to buy, so why sell before we have a quality replacement? I'm sure i'm underestimating Pearson, but I just thought i'd share my thoughts. Regardless of who we buy/sell, i'll still be there every week supporting the Blue Army!
