RowlattsFox Posted 16 May 2012 Posted 16 May 2012 Why are people acting as if the whole squad is a major shock? Apart from Downing, and maybe Defoe, a lot of the squad picked itself and there isn't much better. Johnson is only in due to injuries to Walker and Richards. Disappointed Adam Johnson isn't in, needs to leave Man City if he's not going to get game time because he's a good player.
ScouseFox Posted 16 May 2012 Posted 16 May 2012 Trying to pick an XI for that first game that could even come close to not embarrassing themselves against France is going to be very hard.
Manwell Pablo Posted 16 May 2012 Posted 16 May 2012 gks Hart Green Ruddy defenders: Baines Cahill Cole Johnson Jones Lescott Terry midfielders: Barry Downing Gerrard Lampard Oxlade-Chamberlain Parker Walcott Young Milner forwards: Carroll Defoe Rooney Welbeck The only two selections I take serious issue with are A) Downing and B) Carroll and I'll forgive him if Carolls participation is seriously limited and Downing doesn't get a kick. His inclusion after the season he has had is a joke. Joe Cole did more in his first game for Lille than he did all season
Jimothy Posted 16 May 2012 Posted 16 May 2012 Would have taken Sturridge over Defoe, Crouch. Holt or Bent over Carroll. Anybody else instead of Downing, probably Adam Johnson, or Matt Jarvis. Would have taken Carrick over Lampard. Other than that it's ok.
Leicesterpool Posted 16 May 2012 Posted 16 May 2012 no Adam Johnson, Micah Richards, Darren Bent, Ben Foster, Joe Cole, Daniel Sturridge, Holt! WTF- John Terry, Robert Green, Glen Johnson, Stewart Downing, Wayne Rooney, Andy Carroll.
Manwell Pablo Posted 16 May 2012 Posted 16 May 2012 no Adam Johnson, Micah Richards, Darren Bent, Ben Foster, Joe Cole, Daniel Sturridge! WTF- John Terry, Robert Green, Glen Johnson, Stewart Downing, Wayne Rooney, Andy Carroll. Yes taking the best Centre Half in the country by a mile, what a silly decision P.S Ben Foster has made himself unavailable for international selection.
ScouseFox Posted 16 May 2012 Posted 16 May 2012 Bar probably Joe Cole in for Downing and a few changes up top with Crouch/Bent (is he still injured?)/Holt in for Welbeck I think that's about the best Woy could've come up with really. Maybe Micah Richards too. In fact Aaron Lennon has done much more in his career than AOC has to justify taking him.
Babylon Posted 16 May 2012 Posted 16 May 2012 Terrible. We have terrible players, swapping one average player for another isn't going to make much difference.
AjcW Posted 16 May 2012 Posted 16 May 2012 We have terrible players, swapping one average player for another isn't going to make much difference. That's exactly what you just suggested only two posts above!
Mack Posted 16 May 2012 Posted 16 May 2012 I liked the appointment of Hodgson and will give him the benefit of the doubt with this squad. However.. Ruddy No Downing No Carrol No Johnson over Richards No Only 4 strikers with one suspended for the first two games no All mistakes in my opinion, time will tell. It's pretty obvious from the shape of this squad he has playing 4-3-3 in mind, but it will only take one injury to force his hand potentially beyond his intentions.
Fox in the North Posted 16 May 2012 Posted 16 May 2012 I couldn't bring myself to pick Henderson or Carrick x) I think bar Rooney and hart, all the other players are a bit average like Babylon. I know terry, lampard and Gerrard are good but they're not as good as they used to be.
Corky Posted 16 May 2012 Posted 16 May 2012 Ruddy- not too bothered, Hart will play barring injury/suspension and Green is second choice. Downing- Absolutely no idea why he's there, bizarre ahead of Adam Johnson who has played a lot for City this season and contributed. Carroll- Not convinced at all, shame Bent is injured.
Tielemans63 Posted 16 May 2012 Author Posted 16 May 2012 I'm disappointed not to see Jagielka in the squad, I really rate that guy. The squad is okay but like everyone else I can't believe Downing is in there. Piss poor footballer.
goose2010 Posted 16 May 2012 Posted 16 May 2012 any idea who the last Norwich player was in an England squad?
Darkon84 Posted 16 May 2012 Posted 16 May 2012 Whos this Downing chap thats been picked? Is he some up and coming superstar that I don't know about? Because it surely can't be THE Stuart Downing, the man that made it as a footballer, despite having no obvious ability!?
Wycombe Fox Posted 16 May 2012 Posted 16 May 2012 The only one that really bothers me is Downing. Never seen anything in any games I've seen him in, to suggest that he's ever been worthy of an England cap. What a wonderful change it is to actually understand what the England manager is saying and his explanations for his inclusions/exclusions.
Wycombe Fox Posted 16 May 2012 Posted 16 May 2012 any idea who the last Norwich player was in an England squad? Rob Green
Manwell Pablo Posted 16 May 2012 Posted 16 May 2012 any idea who the last Norwich player was in an England squad? Squad, Eadie, withdrew injured (shock) Played, god knows.
Babylon Posted 16 May 2012 Posted 16 May 2012 That's exactly what you just suggested only two posts above! Henderson isn't even average!!!! I could do a better job on current form.
Guest MattP Posted 16 May 2012 Posted 16 May 2012 Wish people would stop moaning about the England squad, yes it's average....that's what you end up with eventually when you flood a league with foreign players whilst hardly having any of your own prepared to play around Europe....

Well it wasn't my decision, so I'll moan.
