Someone who eliminates the need for a midfield or any creative football at all, allowing your keeper or defenders to hoof the ball forward every time they get it in the vain hope that the side you are playing against will have a weaker central defender than said target man allowing you a goal a game - saves on having to buy 'expensive' quality midfielders too

Cheap effective football? That sounds good, please do tell us more.

Most teams have target men, but still play football. Didier Drogba was a great target man for Chelsea, but I don't think they ever played direct football.

As a target man, Futacs will give us a good option. Last season, under both Sven and Pearson, the strikers couldn't hold the ball up. I'll admit the football we will play will be direct, but now Kasper has something to aim at, and the target man can hold the ball up and/or bring other players into play.

Brought Big Sam success at West Ham. I can't say I enjoy hoofball football, but if it gets us promoted what would I rather have - pretty football and mid table, hoofball, bored, yet promoted?

The concept of a target man is not totally flawed if you have a midfield and wingers savvy enough to use them properly, but the best ones have pace and goal scoring ability too (you may have noticed said Didier doing this for Chelsea). If this boy has pace and an eye for goal and we buy another intelligent playmaker to play alongside Danns and the wingers we have learn to get round a man and then cross then he could well be a smart signing

Wait until you've sat through half a season of it and get back to me

This isn't my first year watching Leicester, I have sat through a season of it before and frankly I don't mind it. Certainly it's more entertaining than Sousa's 'Lets pass the ball across our defense for 90 minutes' tactic. All I want is to see us win, we had a better record watching Nigel's 'Hoofball' than when we played Sven's 'Beautifull football'.

Like I say, get back to me when you've sat through a few games of it.....

Brilliant, me neither - it spoils the game for me, all that cheering and loud music when we occasionally do score, disrupts the nice steady hoofing of the ball up and down the field by the keepers

Well we didn't play long ball under Sven, I don't remember much cheering and loud music during his spell?

Why do some people think that this signing automatically means he will be a regular starter, and therefore we will become a full time long ball team? I see him being used in exactly the same way as we did Howard. That is to start on the bench most of the time and be used as a plan B, if needed, in the last 20 odd minutes of games.

It's a team game and it doesn't matter how the goals are scored (for me anyway). If a target man like him can help his strike partner(s) get 28 goals, and he gets only 12, so what? The team still gets 40 goals. So what does it matter that they didn't get exactly 20 each?

I didn't say I enjoyed it, but the question is what would you take? Promotion hoofball style. Mid table pretty passing style?

Great logic. Lets just go out to score as many as we can each game, never mind we concede twice as many, at least we will get to hear the goal music more often! :doh:

In recent seasons we have had a few continual problems which Sousa and Sven failed to solve, being an inability to score from corners, a lack of presence in the box making many crosses pointless, and no easy outlet from defence when under pressure.

A big forward who can win the ball in the air should improve these things.

One other thing, the prettiest kind of football is watching the ball hit the back of the opposition net.

15 goals in 13 league games before he got the boot? Oh and 7 and those came in 2 games. Entertaining stuff watching us pass the ball round the defence all game.

Oh come on we did score a lot of goals under Sven, the problem was we were at times defensivley weak, and didn't have any consistency, problems which were not around when Nigel was here. I had no problem with Sven's style of play and indeed I think he should have been given more time, but he clearly made some real errors in the transfer market (Both in and out), and his willingness to tinker with a winning side caused us problems.

I think our strikeforce (excluding Beckford, who could still come good) is perfect right now. Nugent should be able to get 15 or so goals this season, Vardy has done a great job in the non-league and we're giving him a chance to step up to the Championship, Waghorn is a young hardworking striker and Futacs gives us the option as a target man, we desperately needed someone who could hold the ball up this season. A good centre-back and another option on the left wing and I really believe Nigel is starting to construct a good side for us.

Should have left NP as manager and brought in Sven as a director of football 2 years ago. With Sven's connections, NP could have asked for virtually anyone. Easy to say in hindsight and we are stuck with where we are.

Two different philosophies mate, have you noticed the change in players brought in, and their connexions when compared to Sven ?

It is a fantastic idea in principle though, if we could maybe get somebody else of Svens stature to take that role if we make it to The Prem
