Rangers look certain to be thrown out of the SPL after Aberdeen revealed they will vote against a new company taking the crisis-hit club's place.

Aberdeen Football Club said they are joining Heart of Midlothian, Hibernian, Dundee United and Inverness Caledonian Thistle and voting no to the newco assuming a place in the top league on July 4.

The SPL have confirmed that the vote cannot be brought forward and will take place on the agreed date at Hampden.

A majority of eight to four would be required to pass the SPL member share from Rangers FC PLC to Sevco 5088, which is seeking to establish the new Rangers club.

Stewart Milne, the chairman of the Pittodrie club, stressed in a statement on Monday that the newco issue was only one of a number of challenges facing Scottish football in the next few months.

Mr Milne added: "Traditionally we have preferred not to make public our voting intentions, but in light of the level of interest and the fact other clubs have chosen to show their hand, on this occasion I can confirm it is our intention to oppose readmission to the SPL for any Rangers newco.

"If re-admission were to be refused, we believe the appropriate course of action would be for Rangers newco to apply for membership to the SFA and to submit an application for admission to the SFL.

"One of our major objectives has to be to work with everyone concerned to ensure that the commercial challenges that this case has and will continue to cause can be mitigated as far as they possibly can so that sporting integrity can be the overriding factor."

The Aberdeen chairman added that he would be pushing for re-organisation of the Scottish game as a priority but said that it should not be rushed. Talks took place between the SFA, SPL and SFL last week regarding a new league structure with greater distribution of prize money across the leagues.

Mr Milne said: "It is not something that should be rushed through just to deal specifically with one club. As we have indicated there are a number of other areas that we feel need to be addressed openly in the coming period if Scottish football fans are to feel that their views have been properly taken into account."

Don't know why people have such a problem with SPL.

They don't pretend it's anything special, not one of the "best leagues in the world", just a league like ours which has an elite group, a few decent ones and the rest. At a lower quality level, admittedly, but it's normally pretty inoffensive.

Me neither the only thing I can think of its scottish and were suppose to hate them as much as they hate us so people take the piss out of their league...for the population of their country i dont think the league is anywhere near as bad as people say.

Agreed. I think it's more the ever jealous longing of Celtic and Rangers to join the Premiership. This will put tat idea on the backburner for a few more seasons at least!

Scottish fans always celebrate and take the piss when England get knocked out of competitions (like last night), so it's nice to remind them how pathetic and pointless their national league and team really is.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Imagine being Scottish. Can't think of anything more grim than that.

Totally agree, the Premier League just has the same teams challenging every season and that's it.

No doubt we will be seeing Manchester City and Manchester United as top two for the next few years.

Be funny if they apply for the English league.......and get in :D

That'll stick it to them.

I know it's not going to happen. But I would p1ss myself if it did.

That's just complete bollocks, sounds like the sort of quote you hear off a guy who rings up Sky Sports. we have had 4 different winners in the last nine years. You have to go back to 1964 to get that in Scotland.

The Scottish league relies on Rangers/Celtic, it even relies (although they will never admit it in public) on the bigotry that goes with it, that's what makes it half worth watching, without it its just two shit teams in a shit league no one cares about, if they kick Rangers out so be it. The league signs it;s own death certificate for a chance at being knocked out in the CL qualifiers.

Like your shit don't stink! lol

Erm - did you not hear the laughter last night as your mighty national side were made to look less threatening than the Faroe Isles? Did you miss all those games where the best your boys could achieve was a laughable negative display? Plus no one outside two or three teams will ever win the top league in England.

I think you need to remind yourself how pathetic and pointless your national league and team really is.

Celtic wont survive long without Rangers

They need eachother

Maybe thats the whole plan?

Sink the big two, and let the rest flourish :o

Hang on, those four winners were Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal weren't they?

Chelsea dominated for 2 seasons with Mourinho. And then another season with Ancelotti. City have won it once. Both of these teams wouldn't have won it without their cash injection.

There is no doubt Manchester United would have won it year after year if the other teams (apart from Arsenal who arnt good enough now anyway) wouldn't have had all the cash.

There is more money in the Premier League. If the likes of Hearts, Hibs and Motherwell all had the cash and resources like Chelsea and Man City, then they would probably challenge for the Scottish title.

Probably would, doesn't change the fact what I've said is factually correct though.

The point is what they are doing is Scotland is about to make their domestic leagues competitiveness (which is already the Worst in Europe, 26 years of Rangers of Celtic outdoes Ukraines Kiev and Shaktar for 19 years) into a level never seen before, incomparable to any league ever in Europe.

Celtic and Rangers aren't that good anyway, wouldn't make it in the Premier League without Money injection(but that's not allowed and is wrong....) a lot of Celtics squad is made up of ex Championship players.... Shows what a poor standard Scotish football actually is if average Championship players can win a league title miles clear of the next opposition? No?
