Leicester_Loyal Posted 23 July 2012 Posted 23 July 2012 http://www.oddscheck.../top-goalscorer according to the odds 3 out of the top 10 favorites for top goal scorer are at Leicester in the order of Beckford, Nugent and vardy. what this means in relation to this topic is that these are likely to be our top 3 choices? Futacs may be our first choice striker because of the way he holds the ball up. However, he won't finish as the top goalscorer because he isn't a goalscorer, he is meant to win the ball in the air and bring others into play.
JimmyB Posted 23 July 2012 Posted 23 July 2012 Difficult one to call really, I do think we have very good options up top. Would like to see Vardy and Futacs given plenty of opportunities, but when Beckford actually gives a f**k I like the partnership with Nugent, basically, whatever happens, I'm probably not gonna be happy. One thing that is certain, if Waghorn is starting, we are in a bad place.
Harry - LCFC Posted 23 July 2012 Posted 23 July 2012 Everyone is saying something different, I think it may change quite a bit according to form. Generally I think it will be a mix of Vardy, Nugent and Beckford and Futacs will be called in when needed (or perhaps he's better than I think). I don't see Waghorn or Schlupp getting much of a game though.
Father Ted Posted 23 July 2012 Posted 23 July 2012 I will be very surprised if Futacs is a starter... Id love to see: Schlupp - Marshall - Nugent Beckford
Halfsy Posted 23 July 2012 Posted 23 July 2012 Nugent and Beckford in a 4-4-2. Vardy (right), Beckford and Nugent (left) in a 4-3-3. Futacs off the bench if we're losing as an impact, or against physical sides away from home. Waghorn is garbage and Schlupp is likely to be loaned.

Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 Nugent definitely. Nice to have some options but i'd go with Vardy along side him.
Finnegan Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 I didn't say that 'about his post', just the fact that people keep telling us that Beckford/Nugent was a great partnership last year when it clearly wasn't. I'd rather Vardy/Nugent or Vardy/Beckford next year than try the same thing that failed last season. We were at our best last year when Beckford and Nugent clicked, it took them a little while but they started to look pretty dangerous together; there aren't a great deal of partnerships better than them in this division. As soon as we shunted Nugent out wide and left Beckford isolated the bubble burst, that's not a coincidence.
Leicester_Numan Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 Nugent/Beckford are goalscorers, they're only any good facing goal. That kind of partnership would work only with fast counter-attacking football. 2 goalscorer partnerships rarely work and this one didn't most of the time, it failed completely against packed defences when they had to play with their back to goal. The best partnerships are always target man/goalscorer, whether it's a big target man like we now have or the more skillful type like a Dalglish, Beardsley or Mark Hughes. One of the front 2 has to be able to win the ball in the air or it's pointless playing wingers, one of them has to be able to play with their back to goal and hold the ball to wait for support. If we play the same front 2 this season we'll have exactly the same problems as last season. Anyone who can't see that, get yourselves down to specsavers. Other opticians are available
chris_lcfc_85 Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 I think its excellent that we're having this debate because it just shows what good options we have, better than most in the league. For what its worth i think it will be varying from Nugent/Beckford/Vardy but having Futacs and Waghorn gives us plenty of options. NP can change and play different ways depending on the opposition. When we play Millwall for example, they are very physical so Futacs will be a good option
Mark_w Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 We were at our best last year when Beckford and Nugent clicked, it took them a little while but they started to look pretty dangerous together; there aren't a great deal of partnerships better than them in this division. It looked dangerous in about 3 or 4 games maybe, but over the course of the season there just weren't enough signs to suggest that strikeforce should be starting next season. It never looked like a partnership that was going to be good enough to get where we want to be next season. I just think it has to be worth trying Futacs, Waggy, Vardy in with the two of them to see if we can find something that clicks, because frankly as a partnership Nugent/Beckford didn't bring the best out of either player in my opinion.
Leicfox Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 We were also favorites to win the league last season... Were also favorites to win the league THIS season too.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 Barry Hayles and Leon Crncic Hilarious. The lets put ex players who are shit in a post gag never gets old...
bluesbrothers Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 Well it's nice to finally have an embarrasment of riches in the striking department for once. Comparing the roster to the League 1 season when we only really had Fryatt and Howard, with Dickov on the bench, it's great we don't have to worry about where the next goals are coming from if we face an injury or two. Granted, the likes of Vardy and Blyth are unproven (and I doubt we'll see much if any of the latter this year) but I don't have any worries about the firepower. We know Nugent will score goals, likewise Beckford despite his "workrate" got plenty last year. Futacs is the ariel threat we've needed and still has his legs, Waghorn still scores goals whenever he's in or around the team, Schlupp is the little puppy running around everywhere and netting while he's at it, and other academy prospects like Hopper and Panayioutu are looking promising, though again, i don't expect them to feature much this year. That said, my first choice line-up? Panayioutu and Blyth

Fox92 Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 I imagine it will be a flat 4-4-2, especially for the first game against Peterborough. Suppose it depends on who impresses during training and pre-season, but I'd like to see Nugent start, no doubt. Who plays with him is the question.

As things stand now, I'd be very surprised if Pearson doesn't go for his favoured 4-4-2 with Dyer out left, Gally out right and Nugent/Beckford up front. You can usually predict it. And I think I'd give Nuge and Becks a few games together at the start of this season to see whether their fabled 'partnership' actually does work. If its not going to, then drop one of them and play big Futacs.

Hope we're not all let down so quickly again once the business starts..
Guest Col city fan Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 Not Marshall...? Marshall for me mate yes... But I betcha we see Gally in the starting eleven first match. I could be wrong but I'd be surprised.
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 How anyone can see past Beckford and Nuge at the moment really surprises me, both cracking strikers at this level. All the other strikers we have offer something different so we could play Futacs if teams have come and parked the bus and we need a battering ram, or Schlupp/Waggy if we need a bit more pace (as if Beckford doesn't have enough already).
FoxesFan123 Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 Options for the front 3 (if we go 433): Nugent Beckford Vardy Futacs Waghorn Schlupp Gallagher Dyer Marshall Hopper Panayotiou Blyth Wow!
