EastNeukFox Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 Anybody in here old enough to remember 17th October 1973 when England had to beat Poland at Wembley to qualify for the 1974 World Cup Finals in West Germany? We only managed a 1-1 draw following heroics by the Polish 'keeper Jan Tomaszewski, who was labelled a clown by Brian Clough. We never made it to the finals. Almost 40 years later, on 15th October 2013, that could be the case again. If it is, I shall be hiding behind the sofa. Oh yes, remember it well....! Sadly though, if you feck it up again this year, Scotland won't be there to add some British interest
shen Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 And Denmark get the win in Armenia! Strange old group. Have to hope Bulge Area beat Malta or their chances are all but over..... Far more encouraging display after the luckiest of wins against Malta on Friday. To be fair, Armenia were without their best striker, defender and keeper, which made things A LOT easier for us. After 30 mins another important midfielder was subbed for them, yet we still struggle to create anything of note. That said, we actually tried to play and had far more urgency about us, but Denmark without Bendtner or Cornelius are utterly toothless. We're woefully short of a side capable of beating Italy in Copenhagen barring a miracle. Even if we win that game, it might all be in vain if Bulgaria win both their remaining games at home against Armenia and the Czechs. Didn't realise just HOW shit Wales really are Finners. Gotta hand it to him, he predicted the score. I'm kinda hoping for him and the Welsh people that they go on to lose against Macedonia. Surely Coleman won't be able to stay on if they finish bottom of that group!
Jordan Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 The 2-0 (Dos a cero) score line between USA and Mexico is now steeped in our lore, but that was pretty ****ed up by Dempsey to blast a 94th-minute penalty with the Yanks up 2-0 into outer space We're officially in--to use an Americanism--"the big dance!" Oh, and as it stands with 2 games left: Mexico is tied with Panama on points and goal difference--but trail on goals scored, leaving them 5th... Surely not?...
Finnegan Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 They'll keep Coleman anyway, shen. They've no ambition and he does the job for peanuts. They put up with Toshack for years.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 They'll keep Coleman anyway, shen. They've no ambition and he does the job for peanuts. They put up with Toshack for years. You have little to work with though obviously. Who would you have?
Finnegan Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 You have little to work with though obviously. Who would you have? Anyone that'll do it! I don't care if they aren't Welsh. I'd have kept that weirdo Raymond on with Oisin. If he's got to be Welsh, I was being serious when I said I'd rather Pulis. I can see one of Giggs or Bellamy doing it before they're 45, with an experienced assistant. I'd possibly prefer Bellamy, he's more passionate about his nationality and has never taken us for granted. Apparently he's off to Argentina and Spain when he retires to learn coaching. Give him a few years in the wilderness then bring him home.

Guest MattP Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 Couldn't believe how poor Mexico were. I thought that though US looked good. On a side note how funny was the touchline guy with the mic leading the crowd? Never seen it done like that before from the dugout.

bovril Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 Trapp quits, MON talked about as the next Rep. Ireland manager. Surely after Celtic he won't want all that crap again?
Guest MattP Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 Trapp quits, MON talked about as the next Rep. Ireland manager. Surely after Celtic he won't want all that crap again? Would be amazed if he took that. I know his stock is lower than it was but he could still surely get a better job than that?
Jordan Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 I thought that though US looked good. On a side note how funny was the touchline guy with the mic leading the crowd? Never seen it done like that before from the dugout. What? I was watching the game at the bar, so I wasn't paying attention to most stuff outside of the game, and I didn't see that!Would be amazed if he took that. I know his stock is lower than it was but he could still surely get a better job than that? It's not the PSG job, but I'd guess Ireland would still be able to offer lots of money to whomever is their top choice.

Uncle Albert Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 Has anyone ever been an International player/manager?
Guest MattP Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 What? I was watching the game at the bar, so I wasn't paying attention to most stuff outside of the game, and I didn't see that! About 35 minutes he turned up, stood their with a microphone outside the tunnel ramping the crowd up, was loud as anything! Sure a video will appear on youtube.
Finnegan Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 Surely Pulis would waste your midfield with his style? Oh it'd be ****ing awful but it'd be better than Coleman.
Jordan Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 About 35 minutes he turned up, stood their with a microphone outside the tunnel ramping the crowd up, was loud as anything! Sure a video will appear on youtube.Haha, ok, I'm gonna look for it when I get to my desk at work.I'm also going to look for highlights from Honduras 2-2 Panama last night... Gaby Torres and Wilson Palacios () both scored beautiful goals.
Ross-Kemp Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 Has anyone ever been an International player/manager?I think there has only been 3 people in history to do this and 2 of them are really obscure.George Wreah is one of them.
Leicesterpool Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 Does anyone actually think MON will go to the republic of ireland?
Brainy Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 Sorry if this has been mentioned before but i've just noticed San Marino u21s beat Wales u21s 1-0 last week?
Fox42 Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 Sorry if this has been mentioned before but i've just noticed San Marino u21s beat Wales u21s 1-0 last week? And their main team scored against Poland. This could be their best week of their entire existence
Finnegan Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 Sorry if this has been mentioned before but i've just noticed San Marino u21s beat Wales u21s 1-0 last week? Yeah, look at the team Wales had out though. Ever heard of any of them? We had a cracking U21 side a few years ago but anyone vaguely decent at the minute is in the seniors. Suffice to say, whilst a bit embarrassing on paper, essentially nobody's giving a shit. Far bigger things to worry about with the senior squad.
Leicesterpool Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 I think either Roy Keane or Gus Hiddink will take the republic of ireland job, i just can't see MON going into international management!
