We won the last qualifying match 1-0 against Slovenia tonight. It was a drab affair, only a wondergoal from Xhaka and some great saves by Sommer prevented a worse result. Survived this rather easy group unbeaten - 7 wins and 3 draws are a pretty neat stat. I only wish we had one or two more proper strikers to add more depth up front. The attacking play is like a real pain to the eye of the beholder. Did you win both your games in qualifying this time around? I dunno how we can be below the likes of the Swiss and the Greeks, Switzerland's group is terrible, that terrible Iceland have managed to get 2nd place, and they have 2 more points than us. Greece haven't even won their group and it is again, worse than ours. We did better or as well than both of them at Euro 2012.....we've lost 2 games in 2 years as far as the rankings are concerned, despite the fact we've played Brazil twice, once in Rio, Italy twice, played Ukraine, away, twice, and Spain. Fu-cking ridiculous that't we're 17th.

Sounds like an unbelievable finish, though. Awful night to be Panamanian...and an embarrassing one to be Mexican - getting rescued by the "Yankee imperialists" at the death is probably more embarrassing than if they'd been knocked out. Pig strokers was the first thing that came to mind. I was betting and losing Alf, I love these last qualifiers, usually a fantastic time to make some money as the odds become inflated as people start to think teams are going to start fixing matches when they aren't. Chile were 7/5 to beat Ecaudor at home last night which goes down as one of the best prices I've seen. That said I still managed to make a loss, Peru have a lot to answer for. As Jordan says the Panama USA game was absolutely unbelievable. Only get that sort of stuff on these matchdays.

Japan would be fine they looked bang average when I watched them last. Not really worried about the Africans either, more overhyped and over-rated than us. Gone backwards since the teams of the 90's.

Phwoar. Don't think we can get Columbia they'll be pot 2 as well. Not too bothered to be honest, after getting there anything else is a bonus we aren't the team we used to be.

shen Posted 16 October 2013 Posted 16 October 2013 Correct me if I'm wrong, there are 9 groups, so the lowest number of points per game (I say PPG because of France in group I only playing 8 games rather than 10) 2nd placed side doesn't get into the play-offs? In this case, it's Denmark? That must be a truly devastating way to go out, being bottom of 9. So the 8 play-off teams... Portugal, France, Croatia, Iceland, Ukraine, Greece, Sweden & Romania, I'd love to see Portugal draw France They just remove the second-placed teams' results against the bottom side in the group. And yes, it is a gutting way to miss out, but our home record was so poor that we didn't deserve a spot in the playoffs. Had we just held on for another 90 seconds against Italy on Friday, we would've pushed Croatia down into that unfortunate spot. It'll be great to see Bosnia at the World Cup, are there any other newcomers? Potentially Iceland, Jordan, Ethiopia and Burkina Faso.

leicsmac Posted 17 October 2013 Posted 17 October 2013 IMO, easiest group would be Switzerland (sorry MC!), Tunisia/Cameroon and Iran. Horrible group would be Spain/Germany, Chile/Ivory Coast and the US. Wouldn't mind drawing South Korea, that would get tasty over here!
