Corky Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 I think either Roy Keane or Gus Hiddink will take the republic of ireland job, i just can't see MON going into international management! The same Roy Keane who has had serious disagreements with the FAI?
Uncle Albert Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 Did someone seriously just say Guus Hiddink for the Republic of Ireland job? Haha, heads gone.
Jordan Posted 12 September 2013 Posted 12 September 2013 Do Cape Verde Islands pick up a few Portuguese of Cape Verde descent, I wonder, seeing as it was once a Portuguese colony?Cape Verde Islands just got disqualified for the playoff rounds because they fielded an ineligible player. The player received a 4-match ban for a red card, but apparently didn't serve the whole suspension. How does a team let that happen? The irony here is that, according to the BBC, CVI lost the game vs Equatorial Guinea where their player was sent off, but were later awarded the points because EG--wait for it--fielded an ineligible player.

Jordan Posted 12 September 2013 Posted 12 September 2013 There is only one continent on the planet where that could happen.I'm not especially proud of saying this, being a lefty do-gooder, but yeah. You might not be surprised to know that in addition to CVI and EG, five other teams in CAF World Cup 2014 qualifying have been sanctioned by FIFA for using ineligible players.
Dan Posted 12 September 2013 Posted 12 September 2013 Who was it last year who needed a miraculous 9 goal turnaround and they won the game 10-0 I was absolutely howling.
Guest MattP Posted 12 September 2013 Posted 12 September 2013 I'm not especially proud of saying this, being a lefty do-gooder, but yeah. Still doesn't beat the African nations game a few years back when a player got sent off and someone just decided to jump off the bench take his kit off and run on to play thinking it was entirely legal to replace him. Or this old World Cup classic.
21st Century Fox Posted 12 September 2013 Posted 12 September 2013 That was one of the best Phoenix From The Flames...
Corky Posted 12 September 2013 Posted 12 September 2013 Aah, a proper football show, which was funny, slightly edgy too. Sadly we now have Soccer AM.
I am Rod Hull Posted 12 September 2013 Author Posted 12 September 2013 That was one of the best Phoenix From The Flames... Not seen that in years. Classic

Guest MattP Posted 13 September 2013 Posted 13 September 2013 Howling You've got to love the African sides. There's something so iconic about them yet I can't put my finger on it. It's the unpredictability of them. Watch an African football match and you could see an absolute moment of brilliance or a moment of complete and utter farce at any given point. It seems to run from top to bottom through every organisation as well, think it was Sierra Leone who managed to somehow enter their top sprinter into the Long Jump or something last year at the Olympics after a "paperwork error".
Kitchandro Posted 13 September 2013 Posted 13 September 2013 Fantasy Football is so underrated. They should bring it back, at least for the World Cup or end of season.

I think there was some story behind him doing that, where the leader of Zaire said that the team if they lost by 4 goals wouldn't return home or would face retribution if they did return home. Anyway, they only lost 3-0 in the end so were able to return back to Zaire safely. there's a bit about it in this article here http://www.wsc.co.uk/the-archive/37-As-good-as-it-got/4563-zaire-1974

Only just seen about this, after noticing that Tunisia were miraculously back in the final play-off round. Unbelievable! How sick must the players have felt, when they were 1 tie away from qualifying for the finals for the first time? How guilty must the manager (or person responsible for monitoring player bans) have felt when it was revealed? I really feel for them, even though it's such a stupid and ridiculous thing to have done. Apparently the bloke was sent off in a match that was subsequently abandoned, but the rules were quite clear that the ban for the red card still stood. Imagine having to wait another 4 years because of something like that?!?
Corky Posted 11 October 2013 Posted 11 October 2013 Following on from their defeat to Luxembourg, Northern Ireland are losing in Azerbaijan. Finished 2-0, Jonny Evans sent off.
ScouseFox Posted 11 October 2013 Posted 11 October 2013 Belgium and more interestingly big Lukaku strolling past yet another opponent. 2 for him and 2-0 up with 15 to go at Croatia. Only need a point to qualify. Gonna be 8 wins from 9 games if they see it out. Only conceded twice in 9 games too. Genuinely in with a shout?

Looking forward to seeing Belgium there, they've certainly grown and i'm already tipping them to reach the semi's in Brazil!
MC Prussian Posted 11 October 2013 Posted 11 October 2013 Armenia beating Bulgaria today - top result! I'm still really baffled by this quick ascent of the Armenian football in general. They need a win in their last game against Italy to keep their hopes up to qualify for Brazil next year...

I've got my ticket for BG vs Czechs in Sofia but can't see the home side getting through.
