foxinsocks Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 Do we believe Pearson can take us to the premiership? Not Me. We have a great set of players - but they don't seem to be organised... and when we need a goal with one sub left then why Waggy? Worse, we just aren’t keeping patient possession like the sides who make promotion! I believe Pearson isn't he one and so I hope the owners can quietly find someone who we/they can believe in - and then give pearson his cards asap.
LJS Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 He won't be if we're not challenging. I can see him going soon. Agreed. There is no chance of the owners keeping Pearson on if we don't finish in the top six. A couple of bad results in the next week and he'll be gone before next Monday night.
shen Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 But I don't think this should detract from the fact we were awful in the first half, and, however you analyze it, not good enough to get the point in the second half. It's not like we were robbed, if we were good enough to score 2 goals, or 3 goals, we would have done. Likewise, if we'd have turned up in the first half we may not have lost. Whether that is the fault of the strikers, the defenders or the midfielders - or as I think, all 3, it can't be denied we weren't good enough to get the result today. We can't blame the ref like at Blackburn. Much more reasoned response and I completely agree. This was all down to us messing it up. Wolves weren't good and hardly deserved to win, but if you don't do basics right on set pieces then you shouldn't expect to win games.
Happy Fox Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 If NP goes I wouldn't shed a tear he is alright championship manager who will need 2 years than promotion it won't be instantaneous but if we have to go up this season, than a change may work but may not. I personally think we could do better but the options available aren't really enamoring apart from I guess Mick McCarthy and Harry Redknapp who we have no chance of getting unless the Thais are very persuasive i.e give him loads of cash in the January market, our squad isn't too bad and is it bad management that is causing them to under perform?
shen Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 Yep. But I never wanted him appointed, I thought it signalled a boardroom devoid of any idea on how to run a club. As I say, I'd not call for his head but I'll dance with joy when he goes. That ruddy well depends on who would replace him!!
Maybes Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 Again another game where we have lots of possession but fail to make it count. We won't go anywhere if we continue with the bad defending and poor finishing.

Maybes Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 Oh and people calling for the gaffers head....we've had 5 games, come back when we've played 10 and people may take you more seriously.
sdb Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 Unlucky again. Poor defending of set pieces though, and a sloppy 1st half display. Onwards and upwards though. Consistency is key and wholesale changes are not the answer.

That would be Mick McCarthy who got an 'instantaneous' promotion with Wolves in his 3rd season?
Daggers Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 That ruddy well depends on who would replace him!! I think I'm with seenitall's tongue-in-cheek post, Shenny.
Guest MarshallForEngland Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 I feel sorry most for the anti-Beckford contingent who will have to work extra hard to work out why today's defeat was his fault.
Happy Fox Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 That would be Mick McCarthy who got an 'instantaneous' promotion with Wolves in his 3rd season? At least he has a record of promotion from this division so should we sack NP I believe he is type of manager that could get the best out of this squad but that imo, if you are happy with inconsistency than by all means NP fulfills that criteria maybe I am being a tad harsh on NP but our away form is beyond shocking since he has been back to get out of this division you need to win your home games and win/draw away, NP may well strike the balance and achieve both criteria but I am still unconvinced by him.
Frost Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 SHUT the hell up! Moore looked good again today, Nugent did get the run of the green admitted but the ref was against him the whole game and Wolves doubled up on dyer which gave us extra space on other wing. How many crosses came from de leat's side? I just don't understand some of you people I really don't. Pretty sure it was Moore who ****ed up originally for the second goal? Was absolute schoolboy stuff. Great save from Kasper, then they scored from the resulting corner. Nugent was absolute shite. Midfield was too lightweight - we gave the ball away far too many times. We have no-one clinical upfront, absolutely no-one.
Guest Col city fan Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 Can I re-suggest why I think we lost that game? Three reasons for me: 1. Poor defending at set pieces 2. Doumbia... His physical presence and driving runs ended in us fouling him frequently, especially in our own half. The set piece that ensued then put us on the back foot. When he went off, we looked better. This was also because we suddenly started to control the midfield. Before then, he had. 3. Our strikers look devoid of confidence. I was especially surprised at Waggy over Beckford. Today, that made little sense to me. And where this leaves Beckford in the pecking order, God only knows. If he can't stake a claim over Waggy I can't see much of a future for Jermaine. I thought Wolves looked a much poorer side than I thought they'd be. Although in Doumbia they have the type of player I think City are crying out for, and I'm sure Ebanks is going to be a handful at this level. Where to go from here? Genuinely don't know.... Knocky needs to start the next game though surely?
DorsetFox9 Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 I feel sorry most for the anti-Beckford contingent who will have to work extra hard to work out why today's defeat was his fault. , made me chuckle, so true
Fox92 Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 I never heard of that Doumbia but he impressed me today. So strong, he has the ability to knock any player off of the ball. He practically leaned one arm on King, and King flew about 3 yards (slight exaggeration). We still need a player like this in my opinion, especially for away games at tough places like Molinuex where it's a battle.

To get promoted you need to finish above 22 other teams, or finish above 18 other teams and win the play-offs. You cannot say NP has failed this season unless that is the case. Judging current form we have 0 points away from home but a 100% record at home without conceding. We're by no means the finished article but this league is as close as they come. Bit harsh judging NP's managerial record that way too. He is new to management and undoubtedly still learning. His job for Soton was to keep them up. He did that (at our expense). His job in his first season with us was promotion. He achieved that. Second season with us I would say he overachieved and I still believe had we won that pen shootout with Cardiff that we'd have beaten Blackpool in the final. His full season with Hull was a steadying mission, I reckon many would have liked to challenge for play-offs but really they could have gone completely the other way too. Then back with us has probably been his most torrid managerial spell yet. Ok he hasn't a record of promotion in this division, but he hardly has a bad record considering the teams he has managed in it.
TrentFox Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 I feel sorry most for the anti-Beckford contingent who will have to work extra hard to work out why today's defeat was his fault. Peasy !! Didn't you notice the way he sat on the bench ? Clearly, that attitude communicated itself outwards onto the pitch and sucked the life out of our players !!!

Fox92 Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 Surely not a big, strong tough tackling midfielder? Are you serious? I know we've been mentioning it for ages now.
Guest Col city fan Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 I know we've been mentioning it for ages now. I daren't resurrect my 'defensive midfielder away from home' thread. Babs will ban me...
Corky Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 Surely not a big, strong tough tackling midfielder? Are you serious? Doesn't Our Richard fit the bill?
MattyFromLE Posted 16 September 2012 Posted 16 September 2012 Those calling for NP's head have obviously learnt NOTHING in from our last 2/3 seasons. We need stability, not hiring and firing managers. Realistically, if NP was sacked before December, what is a new manager going to do? Emergency loans? Well that worked well last time didn't it. Pearson is the right man. Sometimes you play badly and win, sometimes you play well and lose, unfortunately we can't win every game as much as we all want to win. STOP. OVER-REACTING!
