Bert Posted 26 September 2012 Posted 26 September 2012 Maybe Grayson pulled the plug on the deal when he saw how poor his first touch was when he picked up the pen to sign The same Grayson that had him at Leeds?
Babylon Posted 26 September 2012 Posted 26 September 2012 The same Grayson that had him at Leeds? Woooosh.
Guest Col city fan Posted 26 September 2012 Posted 26 September 2012 Is this thread still going? Any Beckford thread seems to generate about a million responses. Always has done for that matter.
tylesta Posted 26 September 2012 Posted 26 September 2012 The same Grayson that had him at Leeds? this made me giggle
Babylon Posted 26 September 2012 Posted 26 September 2012 If by favourites it means those that are playing as instructed and putting in the effort then they all do. Bloody idiots, they should stop playing their favourites and play mine instead, who do they think they are?
smudger63 Posted 26 September 2012 Posted 26 September 2012 Unluckily for Beckford, while he`s been sent to train with the kids, we`ve actually now got Knocky, playing in an advanced midfield position, who has the ability and nous to actually create the chances he thrives on, and play to his strengths, instead of the constant hoof ball he was expected to do something with last season. Beckford was given 2 games this season to prove himself, while Vardy despite his fantastic work rate has missed numerous one on one chances, and is an ever present, and even Nugent, who threw his toys out the pram at the start of the season when he wasn`t playing, was hardly firing on all cylinders up until last weeks games, but was given a run of games to find his form. Something that Beckford was not given. To be honest I still think this has more to do with wanting to get get rid of a couple of high earners than anything else, and on that basis, if you had to choose between high earning Nugent and probably more high earning Beckford, i think most of us would keep Nuge and let Beckford go, even though i do think if Beckford goes to another championship club, if they play to his strengths, i think he will score plenty.
Babylon Posted 26 September 2012 Posted 26 September 2012 Beckford was given 2 games this season to prove himself And all of last season. while Vardy despite his fantastic work rate has missed numerous one on one chances, and is an ever present The same Vardy currently sits on 2 goals (3 if you like cup goals) with a better gpg ratio than Beckford managed last year. A gpg ratio that would be massively better but for a wrongly chalked off goal against Blackburn. I do understand your point and I am surprised he started games so quickly, but he's really no worse than Beckford proved himself to be last year goals wise, but as you mention considerably better in regards team work. Nugent, who threw his toys out the pram at the start of the season when he wasn`t playing, was hardly firing on all cylinders up until last weeks games, but was given a run of games to find his form. Something that Beckford was not given. Again Beckford was given plenty last year, and with the same service Nugent received looked considerably poorer. Nugent showed everyone what he is capable of with his goals AND teamwork here. Which is the crucial point, both current strikers offer very similar to JB in regards goal returns, but considerably more in other areas. Which for him is why he is where he is. To be honest I still think this has more to do with wanting to get get rid of a couple of high earners than anything elseThat would be my guess also, or should I say I think it's about getting value from your players.

yorkie1999 Posted 26 September 2012 Posted 26 September 2012 The thing is though, if beckford's on 30 grand a week and nobody seems to want to stump up that kind of wage plus the money to actually buy him, or he's not prepared to drop his wage and move to another club he's probably going to be with us for a few more seasons, so as a club, what do we do with him?.
Mark_w Posted 26 September 2012 Posted 26 September 2012 Like the fifteen he scored last season? Good Joke.
Mark_w Posted 26 September 2012 Posted 26 September 2012 Prove me wrong! Didn't say it was wrong. But I found it funny.

Bert Posted 26 September 2012 Posted 26 September 2012 Didn't say it was wrong. But I found it funny. What's funny about someone scoring 15 goals?
Mark_w Posted 26 September 2012 Posted 26 September 2012 What's funny about someone scoring 15 goals? I find it funny that you'd add in the six cup goals to defend his performances last year, when we're quite clearly arguing whether or not he's good enough for the Championship, or indeed deserving of his '£34,000 a week'.

Have we considered breaking his legs and claiming on the insurance....... It's definitely been done before, saw it on 'Footballer's Wives'..........

Get yourself out of babylon'a arse and form your own opinion. He scored 15 goals last season whether you agree or not. They're not "added in" they happened last season. 3 of them came against championship opposition and one of them against the champions of Europe! Guess knockaert or Futacs goals don't count from this season? Could've swore someone said Futacs has scored more recently than beckford, but it was in the cup, so surely we can't go adding that in?

Guess knockaert or Futacs goals don't count from this season? Could've swore someone said Futacs has scored more recently than beckford, but it was in the cup, so surely we can't go adding that in? People care more about the league than the cup so goals scored in the cup are largely neglected by most people. Particularly when teams will so often put 2nd string teams out and not take it seriously. What really matters is goals in the league, is a striker actually contributing to the team by putting the ball in the net to earn us points? If he keeps scoring in the cup then so what? Unless it's in the quarter final of the competition (or maybe 5th round even) then I don't really care how high his tally is in the Capital One/Carling/Worthinghton/Coca-Cola/Franchise Cup. As much is it might be harsh to say it, if you've scored a lot of your goals in a cup then most people will say you aren't really contributing where it matters.

A very good point! In fact you could say that in terms of value for money, Beckfords cup goals, helping us reach the quarter final of the FA Cup, made more money for the club than any of the league goals that were scored! In fact, isn`t Skys logo this year "Every goal matters". Is that not right then? Maybe they should they change it to "Every goal matters, unless it`s in the cup".
