Poakey Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 Quick question to the Beckford lovers, where would he be playing in this current formation? As he's never changing a game coming on the bench so no point in having him there. I would like to see him running onto some of Knockys amazing thru balls but i think he's had too many chances now. I hate that term "lover" when people try and defend one of there own players. (I'm neither a lover or a hater by the way.)
Guest Col city fan Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 Is this thread still going? IMO he isn't worth what he's being paid and therefore doesn't represent value for money. It looks like Pearson thinks this too.... He's not playing him. Why on earth have your best paid player as 4th choice striker? It makes absolutely no financial sense! Either... Play him and see or don't play him and get rid. The problem is he has been played and was pants at the start of the season and I don't think we can get rid! Daft situation to be in financially. Thank Sven and the board for that.
indierich06 Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 I would like to see how he does in this side as he's not really had a chance to prove himself this season - Nugent wasn't exactly setting the world alight at the start of the season, but he's starting to look back to his best. Mind you, while Nugent and Vardy are playing well, who do you drop? Nugent's found his shooting boots and I think once Vardy sticks a couple away, he'll go on a run of scoring too.
Bert Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 Oh **** off, I didn't realise it was a one opinion per person system that was run here. Maybe you should get your head out of 5waller5's arse, or Dangerius Tiger's. (Edit: Or Fourth_Officials ) At the end of the season when we're talking about the number of goals scored by Knockaert and Futacs I won't include their cup goals, and I've never said Futacs has more goals than Beckford. You may think that everyone who thinks Beckford really isn't that good agrees with anything any other poster of the same opinion posts, but that isn't the case. Like for instance, unlike Babylon, I don't think Beckford should be given another chance, because his wages are ridiculous, he's already failed to produce, and we've got two talented young strikers who I'd like to see given a shot instead. Touched a nerve?
Grey Fox Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 Not seen this discussed on here yet, even though it was yesterday's story in the Merc: Huddersfield are still keen to take out-of-favour Leicester City striker Jermaine Beckford on loan, but Terriers boss Simon Grayson said a deal is not imminent. Former City captain Grayson was cagey when asked on Monday night about his interest in taking Beckford. The former Everton striker has dramatically fallen down the pecking order at the King Power Stadium, but the Mercury understands Huddersfield are still keen to sign the 28-year-old on a temporary basis. The Terriers went close on transfer deadline day when Beckford was in Huddersfield and about to complete a loan switch, only for City boss Nigel Pearson to mysteriously call the player back two minutes before the deadline on August 31. Beckford then appeared as a substitute in the victory against Blackpool the next day, but he has not featured since and was not in the squad for the victory against Hull on Sunday. Contrary to speculation, Beckford, inset, has not had a falling-out with Pearson but is training with the development squad. Beckford wants first-team football and the Terriers appear to be his only immediate lifeline. While other clubs have expressed an interest, they are not in the position to finance the deal and Huddersfield is the only likely destination at present. "I was at the game on Sunday and I was watching because we play Leicester (in six days' time)," said Grayson following his side's 3-1 victory at Blackpool. "I had a team-sheet and I did notice that Jermaine was not in the side, but there were a few others who weren't involved. "We would have to ask the question in the first place and, if we get the right answer, we will take it from there. "If I brought someone in at this moment, they wouldn't get into the side because of how we are playing. "Dean (Hoyle, chairman) has told me that we can go and get players if we want them, but it has to be the right people, at the right time, and the right opportunity for us. "If we wanted to make an approach we could go and do it. I haven't spoken to Dean at this moment. It is not close to being done at this present time and there may be other players we are interested in." Meanwhile, Sheffield United manager Danny Wilson will try to extend Paul Gallagher's loan spell at Bramall Lane. Gallagher is halfway through an initial one-month spell with the League One side and, while Wilson said he has yet to talk to City about extending it, he has been impressed with the midfielder's contribution. "Paul's not even halfway through his stay with us, so there's plenty of time to sort out what might or might not happen afterwards," said Wilson. He added: "We'll have a chat when the time is right. There's no rush." http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/Huddersfield-remain-keen-favour-Leicester-City/story-16988745-detail/story.html Didn't want to start a new 'Beckford' thread, so putting it in here.
yorkie1999 Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 We should let him start against huddersfield, if he scores a hat-trick for us trying to impress them, keep him cos he'll be our top goalscorer in the league.
Grey Fox Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 I would like to see how he does in this side as he's not really had a chance to prove himself this season - Nugent wasn't exactly setting the world alight at the start of the season, but he's starting to look back to his best. Mind you, while Nugent and Vardy are playing well, who do you drop? Nugent's found his shooting boots and I think once Vardy sticks a couple away, he'll go on a run of scoring too. I agree with this exactly. I would like to see what he can do in this side. But while the others are playing well he will just have to bide his time. If he can't do that in a professional way, then that's his own fault. Otherwise I think he should be on the bench and given a chance to come on and prove himself. When he does come on though, he needs to work hard and for the team, and not feel sorry for himself every time something doesn't work out. Just keep trying and look happy to be playing for us. He never looks like he likes playing for us, which is one reason I think some fans haven't warmed to him as much as others. If he was as happy on the pitch as he's supposed to be off it, and put in the effort, people would give him a chance to come good, like they are with Vardy.
Ashley Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 We should let him start against huddersfield, if he scores a hat-trick for us trying to impress them, keep him cos he'll be our top goalscorer in the league. Nugent has four, so no he wouldn't.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 A week mate! Look at it this way. If you had watched Beckford play for the past year and someone was selling him for 2.5 million and wages of 30k per week (allegedly) would you touch him? And give him a 4 yr contract? Especially in this financial climate? I'd go nowhere near given these circumstances. His performances, LEAGUE goals and all round play does not represent anywhere near value for money IMO. People might not like seeing footballers as commodities in this way... But it's the times and we need to do so as much as any other club. , yeah i knew that i meant he isnt even worth 30k a YEAR
hackneyfox Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 Where does this 34k a week come from, who at the club would leak such info? I think people are just making huge assumptions.
glenny_fox Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 Why is it every other thread seems to be about Beckford, and every one is over 10 pages long. Can't we just all get along and agree to disagree.
Babylon Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 I think people are just making huge assumptions. As huge as your font?
Jace Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 Lets all agree to agree with Bert he is always right.
Filbert_Ross Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 Think its time to get rid now if we can.
Bert Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 Lets all agree to agree with Bert he is always right. Really? Grow up! Just putting my thoughts across like everyone else is.
Grey Fox Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 Ian Stringer â€@StringerSport Pearson on Danns&Beckford "normal practice for non-squad players not to train with 1st team. I will choose the squad for any given game"

Babylon Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 Ian Stringer â€@StringerSport Pearson on Danns&Beckford "normal practice for non-squad players not to train with 1st team. I will choose the squad for any given game" Shock horror... Stringer makes something out of nothing again.
blueblood88 Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 We should let him start against huddersfield, if he scores a hat-trick for us trying to impress them, keep him cos he'll be our top goalscorer in the league. No he wouldn't be top goalscorer, nugent has 4 in the league so far. Wish people would get their facts straight on this forum sometimes.
Thracian Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 I've rarely read so many excuses for giving a bloke "another go". Or another go "this season". Or another go now Knockaert is playing perfect passes. Or another go because Mars is in conjuction with your anus. Beckford has had more "goes" than an addict on a pinball machine. And most of the time he's been shit. I've no idea what his mindset is and don't much care. Leicester City is a football club not a psychiatric unit. Every so often Beckford has shown some ability. But for every precious moment of talent there have been countless moments of poor control, indifferent closing down, wayward shooting and the overwhelming feeling that the bloke is not really bothered whether he plays for us or not. The only reason he hasn't been forgotten has nothing to do with marvellous memories of what he could do on the field for us. It is because he gets £34,000 a week or whatever. Well i don't give a toss about that either. I'd still rather see Waghorn, Futacs, Schlupp and anyone else who's prepared to give their all having the chances they deserve and preserving the kind of all-for-one attitude in the side which seems to be giving us our first realistic chance of success in the Championship for over a decade. I can only imagine Pearson's come out with his comment because one or two people are unhappy about being out of the side and because the owners want to see some value from Beckford. Well, I don't see that as Pearson's problem. Having presided over a side that often included Beckford and continually disappointed, he is now in charge of the sort of team he wants and which is playing some of the best football seen from a Leicester side in ages and showing every sign of being able to maintain a genuine promotion challenge. Why would he be losing sleep over Beckford? If the club reduced the ticket prices and did more to fill the third-empty stands properly, his wages wouldn't weigh quite so heavily and we wouldn't need to worry so much about the potential folly of moving him on to a rival. I say potential folly because Beckford has demonstrated that when the mood takes him he can score goals. Unfortunately I've not seen him offer much else and have yet to be in any way convinced that he can work hard for the team and score goals consistently as well, which seems to be a requirement of the manager who has no reason to compromise on what he wants for anyone.
Babylon Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 Or another go because Mars is in conjuction with your anus.
Jace Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 Really? Grow up! Just putting my thoughts across like everyone else is. touched a nerve?
Deucalion Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 You know what? I really don't care about this Beckford argument any more. Either he will come good for us at some point in the future or he will be on his way. And even if he does go and have a glittering career somewhere else, we have to judge him on how good a player he was at Leicester. Currently he is below Nugent, Vardy, Waghorn and Schlupp. He needs to pull his socks up if he's going to succeed here.
