Kasper Schmeichel on Real Madrid's Radar

Recommended Posts

Don't be fooled.

Kasper is a top keeper, and comes across as a very ambitious young man.

If there is truth in this story, he would want to go to Real Madrid, of course he would.

How old is Casillas now? (It seems like he's been around for ever).

Err 31 as quote in both the rumour links.

Mourinho seeks goalkeeper

According to the programme 'Futboleros', on MARCA TV, Real Madrid is combing the market for a goalkeeper to compete with Casillas and who would be a suitable reliable replacement for Spain's international goalie in case of injury or suspension. It is not a question of finding a replacement for Iker, but of getting a goalkeeper who would take over from him in due course.

Despite the fact that Casillas has kept a fine array of great keepers on the bench during his Real Madrid career - Illgner, César, Diego López, Dudek, Adán, and in his career with the Spanish national side - Cañizares, Reina, Palop and Valdés, at Real Madrid they think it is essential for Iker to have a goalkeeper to put a little pressure on him in training, and who could even take his place in cup matches with complete confidence.

Anyone who has worked alongside Casillas will have no doubt. "Whenever Iker has competition, or sees his place threatened, then his output multiplies".

The current second-choice keeper, Adán, will be out of contract on 30th June next year and has made it very clear that he will have left Real Madrid by next season.

The club wants the incoming keeper to be no more than 25 or 26 years old.

Additionally, he must have experience in the first division, and he must come at a reasonable price, not representing an investment any higher than €3 million. Roberto, of Zaragoza, and Andrés Fernández, of Osasuna, are at the top of Real's list.

Thanks..

So Real Madrid may well realistically be looking for a good successor then?

Kasper will probably be older than Casillas is now by the time he retires. It would be as back-up and Kasper would be unlikely to ever make No.1. I personally don't think he anywhere near the quality to be first choice at one of World's biggest clubs.

Don't believe the story.

Massive lol at our fans who think he'd turn down a move to Real Madrid as he doesn't want to be a bench warmer.

Real Madrid guys, Seriously.

Kasper's got the best top level preparation he could be involved in at Leicester. He's getting games that test him in a situation where he's not likely to be displaced and in a team that's competing seriously for promotion to the Premirship.

Such a promotion would give him the perfect introduction to top class football and the further vital experience he needs to become a goalkeeping legend like his father.

Real Madrid is the wrong place at the wrong time for the lad. Even he got a break at Real he's not ready to take it yet and that's not meant unkindly.

There's no licence at Real to learn as you go along - goalkeeper's at their level have to get it right a lot more consistently than elsewhere and against much more accomplished finishers.

Kasper still has his weaknesses and doesn't need the confidence-draining experience of having them exposed at Real just yet. He's popular here - his attitude to the game is inspiring even on a bad day - and that's the way he needs to keep it for a while.

All in all, whether you like it or not, it's good news for Kasper whose market value should increase by a notch or two after these "informations" have been leaked to the press.

And it would help the club negotiate a larger fee should he ever leave before the end of his contract.
