Kasper Schmeichel is a target for Spanish giants Real Madrid, who are looking for a back-up to Iker Casillas, 31.

Danish keeper Schmeichel, 25, son of legendary Peter Schmeichel and City’s player of the year last season, is seen as having long-term potential by Madrid boss Jose Mourinho.

Boss Jose Mourinho has instructed his goalkeepingcoachicon1.png Silvino Louro to recruit a back-up for No.1 Iker Casillas.

And they see Schmeichel, 25, as a long-term successor to Casillas, 31.

Denmark Under-21s international Schmeichel was voted Leicester’s player of the season last campaign.

The former Manchester Cityicon1.png, Notts County and Leeds keeper is the son of Manchester United legend Peter and is making a name for himself in his own right.

Real are also looking at Real Zaragoza’s Roberto, 26, and Osasuna’s Andres Fernandez, 25.

But any possible move could see Casillas moving on – and he would interest Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City.

It may be Real Madrid but I can't see him leaving to sit on a bench for years. He'd have to insist that Casillas goes and why would they get rid of a keeper with a good 5 or 6 years at the top left in him? It's a pointless move but he wouldn't be the first player to be lured by money and glamour and waste his career on the bench

He is good enough to be back up at a top club. If Ross Turnbull can find his way onto the bench for a Champions League final so can Kasper.
