Mark_w Posted 10 November 2012 Posted 10 November 2012 I've most probably followed them for longer than you. And I know we need another goalscorer. Oh we're playing the 'I'm older than you so I'm right' card are we. Well clearly I've stepped out of line even trying to put forward my arguments when someone older holds a differing view.
Guest Col city fan Posted 10 November 2012 Posted 10 November 2012 But if it was that easy to identify such a player that would sort the issue...would we and every other side have not done it already? Nugent is exceptional. His stats demonstrate the part he plays in this team in terms of goals scored. We need another. Henderson, King, Becchio... There's three that wouldn't cost the earth. It's fine margins football. I hope we don't rue the day we play such attractive football as today and not win because only Nuge is scoring.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 10 November 2012 Posted 10 November 2012 Referee was awful, once again we just cant seem to get a penalty no matter what. Whitbreads challenge was stupid but it was never ever a pen. Only positive for me from today was that Schlupp played very well left back, no concerns with him there.
Bluetintedspecs Posted 10 November 2012 Posted 10 November 2012 I stand by everything I said. I have nothing against Waggy but if we had a second, class striker today the game would have been dead and buried. Delude yourself all you like. Missed chances resulted in the draw. Clear as crystal. It don't matter he played particularly well. He's there to convert chances. I'm frustrated we didn't win too mate,I genuinely feel Waggy was not in" barn door " territory today he was rank unlucky with a great save and good goal line clearance! There were some cruel twists of fate again today IMO and another day it would have been 4 or 5-1.....That's football look down quite a few of the results in the championship it's astight as a Nuns chuff. keep the faith mate
deep blue Posted 10 November 2012 Posted 10 November 2012 Schlupp gave the ball away in midfield crassly and Forest ran through and gained the unwarranted penalty. If Schlupp had passed the ball accurately there would have been no move resulting in the penalty. Schlupp made 2 mistakes in the whole game. 1) in the first half he gave away an unnecessary freekick near the byline 2) he made the wayward pass which led to the move for the 2nd goal. It's harsh to blame only him for the 2nd goal, though, as there was a long way for the move to develop from there up to our penalty area (and opportunities for us to stop it earlier) Also Whitbread, though he was put in a difficult position, should have been experienced enough not to be suckered to give away the pen. Not that this is a witch hunt - the pen was very harsh. Apart from those 2 blemishes - just 2 in the whole game - Schlupp was total class. Calm & assured beyond his years, he never got beaten in defence, made many good interceptions & tackles, cool and accurate in his passing, was willing to go forward at every opportunity, used his speed judiciously, was effective when joining in attack. I think that even when Konch is at his best he does not perform as well as that.

Look wider and see where the problem is. Waggy was great today... Fantastic effort. However, he has to convert chances if we are to be where we want to be. Rather than banging the 'everything is great' drum and knocking those who don't, step down off the box and look where we are lacking. That game was there for the taking. Waggy didn't take it.

I'm not trying to be pedantic, but for me it's about finding a player that fits the team and obviously takes the chances. That's the issue - confidence and composure. The problem isn't lack of options or talent so no need to go spending on somebody else who I have no reason to believe will score more goals and take the chances that our strikers aren't. Buying somebody is a poor answer to the problem.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 10 November 2012 Posted 10 November 2012 Enjoying watching us at the moment. Plenty of effort, skill and attacking intent. Will leave the moaning to others.

I thought we were about where we want to be? Personally I think Vardy and Waghorn will get enough goals between them and don't see the need for another striker, but I think what others are trying to say is that you can't be sure that spending a ton of money on another '20 goals a season' player isn't necessarily worth it because there's every chance it simply won't work. Most felt that Beckford was that player, but I think you'll agree that he wasn't. What we have now in terms of options up front isn't perfect, but by throwing a ton of money at a striker in January we're as likely to hinder our chances by upsetting things again as we are to get it right.

Buying somebody is a poor answer to the problem. ? Why did Chelsea buy Hazard? Man City Aguero? Blackburn Rhodes? MON Claridge? Etc etc? How do we get the right player if we don't buy him or loan him? I don't think Waggy has scored a goal yet this season has he? How else do we get a second good goalscorer? This team is so near.... If we have it, lets spend it and kick on.
Bluetintedspecs Posted 10 November 2012 Posted 10 November 2012 Any news on Nuge, what/how bad is his injury?

You're over-reliance on the player and failure to appreciate his weaknesses are akin to what others did with Beckford last season. And will be the downfall. I don't care if its Waggy, Futacs or whomever. None are good enough to score us enough goals.
Matt Posted 10 November 2012 Posted 10 November 2012 If only we had still had Yakubu 'He does nothing, except score goals' Aiyegbeni.
Bugg Posted 10 November 2012 Posted 10 November 2012 If only we had still had Yakubu 'He does nothing, except score goals' Aiyegbeni. And who was it who slagged him off every week? That's it, Mr "we need another class striker" You couldn't make it up

If we have it, lets spend it and kick on. I'm not saying dont spend money. But your saying that going out and finding the answer to the problem is so easy. The strikers you mentioned are decent at best. They fit into their own sides well but none of them have had continuous seasons of nothing but goals. You have to understand every team in every division has this problem. Every team wants strikers that score goals, so why doesn't every team have one? Because its not that easy! And comparing our situation with man city buying aguero and Chelsea with hazard, who isn't a striker by the way, is naive in my view. I respect your view so respect mine. For the same reason you think our strikers don't and won't cut it, I don't think going out and spending on this 'guaranteed goalscorer ', who we and every other side must have purposefully ignored , will work either.

Yes I'm completely dependent, if he leaves Leicester I will cease to be.

Isn't there a part of you that thinks "well, it's up to Nige so there's no point getting worked up over it"?
Guest Col city fan Posted 10 November 2012 Posted 10 November 2012 Isn't there a part of you that thinks "well, it's up to Nige so there's no point getting worked up over it"? Yep, which is why I fully expect Nige to sign an in form striker in January. Especially if Vardy isn't firing.
Tielemans63 Posted 10 November 2012 Posted 10 November 2012 Prob with 'we need another striker' is that we can't buy anyone until Jan so having money to spend is irrelevant right now. Clubs are generally not likely to send established strikers out on loan (e.g. Jones at Stoke) so we have to rely on young players and they'll more than likely take time to settle. The number of options and the quality available to us loan-wise is probably limited.

And king, becchio, Henderson are in form are they? Plus I'd be interested to know what make you think they are better than what we have, and why you think they would score goals in a leicester shirt? Not being funny - but curious!
Guest Col city fan Posted 10 November 2012 Posted 10 November 2012 Pretty much so... Waghorn hasn't scored a league goal this season I don't think? Are you seriously suggesting we can't do better? Waghorn is a good all round player.. But what we need is someone scoring goals to compliment Nuge.
ScouseFox Posted 10 November 2012 Posted 10 November 2012 Regarding Schlupp, I'll be much happier when Konchesky comes back. Forest realised very quickly we had a pretty small centre forward at left back. Everything went down his side and when Dyer tired after a run forward we were horrendously exposed (their first goal came down his side, for example). I'm not blaming him, for the situation and the amount Forest threw down his wing I think he played very well, but week in, week out a big forward or winger will peel off onto him and it's a non-contest in the air. He's good enough back up though, but I'd much rather he was used going forward.

I rate Konch highly, but watched today thinking that what we had on the left with the pace and fluid movement between Schlupp and Lloyd was pretty special and could be immense after a few games together. The pace of Lloyd may sometimes be a weakness in the fact that he has little support - but with Shlupp also bombing along he has that .... I thought it was a revelation having them in the same side and I'd keep Schlupp and Dyer together for a good run in the side.
