It gives a great insight to a number of things related to this transfer. Downing stating that expectations between Leicester and Milwall are very different. leicester have to go up!! being one clear statement that caught my attention. second, was the relationship between Shakespear and Wood looks to have been a factor in him coming to LCFC. I also get the feeling WBA may have advised him to come here as well from what was said. Looks to be a great move for all concerned, Player, selling club and us.

Hopefully the owners have looked at the progress we have made so far this season, and have taken into account the reduction of the wage bill and age of the squad. Can anyone remember Susan Whelan claiming the owners wanted the club to become 'self-sufficient'? Maybe their first plan was the have a big spend for one season and use the finances from promotion to the premier league to self-sustain our club. As that didnt work maybe they are fully behind NP and clearly seeing he is helping the club self-sustain itself, and therefore are allowing him to spend more money. Bringing in marshall, drinky, de laet, james, knocky, and now wood shows we are progressing as a club with quality young players full of potential and current ability. I only hope nigel signs more players with the ability he has signed so far. People may have mixed opinions on the likes of whitbread and vardy. But one was a free transfer who has really not been that bad compared to players over the past few years, he has certainly been better than mills for example. Then there is vardy who was no doubt a risk, i think NP would agree aswell if he could, it is just unfortunate for us that NP wasnt here the season before to sign Le fondre. The owners cannot get rid of him, when he was here the first time he was the one which lifted our expectations to what they are now, as a result of us getting in the play-offs. We got to watch the likes of davies, cleverly, spearing and hobbs in a city shirt, all great players who have showed their ability in the top flight (except hobbs who will be there one day). And as much as they won't admit it, it was NP who has to be partly praised for why hull are where they are now. The rebuilding job he did there was undoubtedly similar to what he did here after our relegation, and also what he is trying to do here now. We need to give NP the chance to finally finish a job he as started. Totally agree with this post.

Millwall director Peter Garston said the Lions had matched City "in every financial aspect" of the deal. "I know the salary, transfer fee and all the add-ons that were offered to both West Brom and the player, and I can assure everyone we matched Leicester in every financial aspect. "Be assured, the board went to extreme lengths to get him at the club permanently. As with all transfers, the final decision is with the player as to whether he sees his future at a club. "As I understand it, Wood and his agent felt there was more chance of him getting Premier League football with Leicester. Personally, I find this very annoying as it was only two weeks ago that Chris echoed thoughts of staying with us."

We are going all in for promotion and there's no point spending dosh on bench warmers.

As I said a couple of weeks ago, there's no point in us continuing to have the debate over who should start with Nugent. Wood should be good enough, from the off, to make the shirt his own, barring injury. To have him 'in the mix' with Waggy, Vardy and Futacs is not what we need, or want. He must come in and hit the ground running. We are getting well off the pace of the top two now.

Ok, he's scored 11 goals this season but his performances have been inconsistent, he looked worryingly off form at the beginning of the season and also seems to have gone off the boil last 3/4 matches. Let's not also forget that 7 of his goals came in 3 matches. We could do with a bit of competition and 4 strikers is an ideal number as it's the strikerforce is also the easiest position to rotate. Futacs will be leaving I reckon.

I was worried that if we got a pure goalscorer in then we might have difficulty slotting him in, losing out on the energy side (lots of running, closing down defenders etc) and so not be able to create the number of chances we usually do. From the little i've seen of Wood he strikes me as a multi-ability player (target man, willing runner/harrier, faily clinical finisher from far or near), so should slot in very easily. Hope I'm not over-expecting from the limited sightings of him.

Yes, but if a striker is off form and not scoring for a run of 5/6/7 games then they deserve to be dropped. Every striker has a dip in form at some time and we need competition to keep the likes of Nugent going.

That's the kind of striker the Nuge is though .... he does tend to be a peak and trough striker and the only way to get him to his purple patch is play him through the baron spells. We definitely need strength in depth and 4-5 strikers that can really add to the side .... but Nuge would be 1st choice for me.
