Vacamion Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 Hull got it. I suspect that Fifa/Olympic committee style backhanders, cocaine parties and goodtime girls were behind this travesty of a decision. Secretary of State for Culture Media & Sport Maria Miller and co-announcer Phil Redmond look the sort, frankly...
goose2010 Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 Seriously have these people been to Hull?? wow thats embarrassing
Bellend Sebastian Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 I think, for once, Soulsby got it right when he said Hull have won it because they need it more. The people I know from Hull are less than positive about it - this will hopefully help them turn it around. Leicester is, of course, the jewel of the East Midlands. I'm not sure why we felt the need to apply for it anyway. City of culture in all but name, my young friends
Mack Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 I am genuinely upset by that decision. I am proud of Leicester and what it stands for. It's one of the only places in the Country where different cultures mix in relative harmony, and I think that makes us a genuine city of culture regardless of a bunch of PC farts in a room can see that or not. In fact maybe that's why we didn't get it, we are just too good at this type of thing and they'd rather give the title to some rancid dying shit hole of a City instead.

Vacamion Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 some rancid dying shit hole of a City Poetry worthy of Larkin, there.... +1
MPH Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 If Hull is the best this country has to offer then please shoot me....
Guest MattP Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 lol I know our city is a dump but losing out to Hull? Fcuking hell. I said this would end up embarrassing whatever the result and it is. Soulsby could fcuk up a cup a coffee.
davieG Posted 20 November 2013 Author Posted 20 November 2013 Spending £10 to £20mill for a one off year does not make you into a City of Culture and if you need to spend that much you couldn't have been one in the first place.
Mike Oxlong Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 Thought they gave this to the shittest city on the basis that they are the neediest and require the boost more than the others. It's a bit like walking past 4 tramps with one £1 coin to give away. You give it to the dirtiest, scabbiest, smelliest of the four. So not too surprised that Hull got it though Dundee must've run them close.
Guest MattP Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 I like how now we haven't won it we are claiming they give it to shit cities why did we enter in the firat place?

Do you really think its a dump matt?, seems like a lot of renovation has taken place in Leicester, I know theres areas that need work drastically, but no way is it as bad as Hull.

I think the High Cross and St Martins square are pleasant. Anywhere else in town makes me want to gauge my eyes out, like a live Jeremy Kyle show on a weekday. The area from the clock tower all the way to the Mercury building could do with bombing so we could start again.

Zingari Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 Something sounds very fishy about all this That would probably be Grimsby, it's not too far away,
Mike Oxlong Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 That would be the one MattP p!ssed on then! I think he'd piss on more than one with a full bladder.
Guest MattP Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 I could take out the whole food bank on a full bladder.
notnow john Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 Congratulations to Hull, they clearly fulfilled the required criteria better than us. It's disappointing to here the leader of our failed bid being so churlish and disingenuous. So in the spirit of magnanimity, heres hoping you have a great and successful year. Does feel like your girlfriend's dumped you for a gippo though!!!
